Ahead of the June 21, 2014 governorship election in Ekiti State, members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday held a prayer session to seek God’s intervention towards achieving maximum victory in the second term ambition of their candidate, Dr. Kayode Fayemi, and the return of the APC government in the state. The members, who were mobilised in their large numbers, converged on the premises of the Kayode Fayemi Campaign Organisation’s headquarters in Ado Ekiti, and were led in the prayer session by the Director General of the outfit and a member of House of Representatives, Hon Bimbo Daramola. Other members at the event included: Deputy Director General of the organisation, Mr. Biodun Omoleye; Director of Media, Dimeji Daniels; Director, in-house Communication, Mr. Sanmi Omiata, and Director of Finance, Mrs. Bunmi Adelugba. Addressing newsmen after the prayer, Hon Daramola, said elaborate talks on the welfare of Ekiti people and what Fayemi has been able to do in the last three and half years would form the kernel and the centre-stage of the campaign. Daramola, who is representing Ekiti North Federal Constituency 1 at the Lower Chambers of the National Assembly, assured listeners that “we are going to embark on agenda setting and issue-based campaign. We are assuring you that the campaign will be violence-free”. According to him, the party would comply with the Independent National Electoral Commission’s directives that campaign should start by March 23 in conformity to the provisions of the Electoral Act that stipulates 90 days before election. He said, “What we are doing today is to seek the face of God in preparation for the election and not campaign. Members of this campaign outfit were carefully selected based on individuals’ strategic competences and we are not going to betray the confidence reposed in us”. Daramola, who explained the rationale behind the setting up of the campaign unit, even earlier than the opposition parties, maintained that “for Fayemi to get second term, we have to work for it. Getting the mandate of the people is worth working for. You don’t stumble on it. “If others are doing so, Fayemi and APC will not take Ekiti for granted because it would be an insult to Ekiti people for us not to present what we have done before them as a serious-minded political party that is seeking re-election for a Governor that has done so much”, he added.
