Former Lagos State Commissioner of Police, Alhaji Abubakar Tsav, yesterday said the resignation of the embattled National Chairman of the ruling Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, was long overdue. He chided Tukur for waiting to be disgraced out of office. “I had earlier advised him that as a former governor of the old Gongola state and presently a successful businessman, he had no reason to still remain in politics and allow people to rubbish him. “I feel that his resignation is coming too late because he failed to heed to honest advice. We just hope that whoever takes over from him will shun the notorious habit of imposition of candidates which I see as the bane of the PDP. “Secondly, we expect that the new chairman will do away with the era of impunity by ensuring that the party complies with the principles of internal democracy,” the ex-Police chief said. Tsav also urged the All Progressives Congress (APC) to put its house in order if it hopes to make any meaningful impact in the forthcoming general election. “The infighting in the APC at the moment is another cause for worry for many watching the unfolding drama in the party; there should be concerted efforts to reconcile the old and new entrants to the party. “They should all unite to form a common front against the ruling party, and by so doing give Nigerians a true alternative party because that is the beauty of democracy, but anything short of that will spell doom for the opposition in the coming elections,” Tsav warned.
