LAGOS — Mr. Oluwatoyin Obikoya, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, yesterday, blamed the slow pace of work on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway pedestrian bridges on relocation of some installations.
Obikoya said that the relocation of transformers, electric poles and other facilities in the right of way of the bridges had slowed down work.
He said work was still in progress on the two bridges at Iyana-Ipaja and Dopemu in spite of the relocation of the facilities.
“Work is on-going, but we have the problem of relocating some items such as electric poles, transformers and other installations.
“There is a 500 KVA sub-station already completed with a transformer that should be relocated.
“This item and others in the right of way of the bridges are slowing down work,” Obikoya said.
He, however, expressed the hope that the job would be completed on schedule in 2014.
Many pedestrians have been knocked down by speeding vehicles on the highway as a result of lack of foot bridges.
