Calabar Carnival: Re-Establishment Of Culture – Amaechi

Governor Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi of Rivers State has described the 2009 Calabar Carnival, as a re-establishment of the peoples culture that would grow the tourism economy of Cross River State.

Governor Amaechi made the remark in Calabar in an interview with newsmen after participating in the Carnival parade and procession that covered over 10km, and the grand finale at the U.J. Esuene Staduim, Calabar.

The Governor said the 2009 Calabar carnival was beautiful, well organized, and lauded the governor, Senator Liyel Imoke, for trying to grow the tourism industry of the state.

According to him, “I saw a lot of foreigners, Nigerians and people from Port Harcourt who came to spend Christmas vacation in Calabar”, noting that he was in Calabar to support the governor in growing the tourism economy of his state.

On what he learnt from the Calabar experience, Governor Amaechi said in relation to the Rivers State CARNIRIV, there was a bit of improper organization that needs to be reviewed in subsequent editions of CARNIRIV.

The State Governor, who said he was in Calabar on the invitation of his brother governor of Cross River State, was joined by the Bayelsa State Governor, Chief Timipre Sylva in giving solidarity to the host governor.

Governor Amaechi and the state delegation had since returned to Port Harcourt.
