The All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Forum in Sokoto State Wednesday described Governor Aliyu Wamakko as a political liability to the APC, saying it would resist attempts by the governor to hijack the party in the state.

The forum also reiterated the fact that the state chapter of APC had an interim leadership committee, which belonged to members of the five legacy parties that formed the merger in the state and as such rejected the attempt by Wamakko to reconstitute another caretaker committee.

Addressing journalists in Sokoto, the Chairman of the Forum and deputy governorship candidate in the defunct All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) in the 2012 election, Alhaji Akibu Dalhatu, said Wamakko was a spent political force, stressing that residents of the state were opposed to his political ideals.

He noted that it was in view of this political liability, that the members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the state were relieved when Wamakko announced his defection from the party.

“As you are aware, Wamakko is today a spent political force in Sokoto. When he joined PDP in 2007, he sidelined the original PDP members which generated crisis. This was the reason why when he announced his defection to the APC, the members of the old PDP quickly used the opportunity to assure the national leadership of the PDP that this in the best interest of the party in the state.
“They have finally got rid of this political liability that has destroyed not only the PDP but the state,” Dalhatu said.

He stated that Wamakko served as deputy to former Governor Attahiru Bafarawa for seven years, lamenting that he (Wamakko) caused the crisis that led to the demise of the ANPP in the state.

Dalhatu emphasised that it was due to the popularity of the APC in Sokoto that warranted Wamakko’s decision to join it, adding, “he is sure that APC is going to form the next government come 2015 in the state and he is afraid of the consequences of his vindictive actions all these years.”

He alleged that Wamakko wanted to ride on the popularity of the APC in the state and planned to deploy state resources to impose his puppet on the people so as to avert the negative consequences that might befall him after he leaves office.

“A meeting of the stakeholders of the five dissolved parties in Sokoto led to the emergence of the State Caretaker Chairman, Hon. Abubakar Sanyinna and Abbas Gandi as Secretary as well as the position of treasurer, public relations officer and organising secretary.

“It is, therefore, surprising that we heard the pronouncement by Wamakko that there is no APC leadership in the state and that nobody owns it. So, as far as we are concerned, he is not a member of APC and we will reject any attempt by him to reconstitute another caretaker committee in the state,” Dalhatu stressed.
