The Alhaji Mijinyawa Kugama-led executive of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) loyal to Governor Murtala Nyako of Adamawa State has refused to follow the governor to register with the All Progressives Congress (APC), stressing that they are still in PDP to fight the injustice going on in the party.

Kugama, while responding to the agitations of the Chief Joel Madaki-led faction of the PDP in the state asking Nyako and his supporters, who recently defected to APC to handover the secretariat paraphernalia to its leadership yesterday, said they were legally elected into their offices on March 17, 2012 and were still members of the PDP.

However, a statement signed by the Assistant Secretary of the Madaki led-faction of the party, Alhaji Lawan Habu, and made available to journalists yesterday, stated that the party had observed that the Kugama-led faction converted the properties of the PDP to the APC, which the party described as criminal and unpatriotic.

The statement noted that the PDP recalled that it had alerted that the membership of Nyako was questionable and that his mind had left the party to the APC, hence realising that he has no grassroots support, decamped to APC with his cohorts as he could not achieve the ambition of his son or In-law to get the ticket of the party.

But Kugama, who spoke through his secretary, Mr. P.P. Elisha, in Yola, said they would not handover the machinery of the party to the Madaki-led faction of the PDP because it was illegally constitute, stressing that they are recognised as the authentic executive of the party by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Checks have also revealed that the activities and programmes of the ‘fight against illicit drugs’ championed by the governor’s son, Abdulaziz Nyako, in the state has clandestine political motives to wrest and established a formidable political structures for himself and his father in APC.

A reliable source told THISDAY that the activities of the young Nyako in recent times had elicited anxieties in the Kugama-led executive of becoming irrelevant in Nyako’s camp in 2015 hence, Abdulaziz might violate his father’s public declaration that he will not contest the 2015 election following the support he has garnered through his programmes against illicit drugs across the state and that he might claimed structure of party from them.

“Something he call them old politicians,” the source said.
Elisha noted that the Kugama-led exco loyal to Nyako was illegally dissolved by the National Working Committee (NWC), headed by Alhaji Bamanga Tukur stressing that section 29 sub section 2 of PDP constitution which gives the NWC powers to dissolve the exco has a clause that the dissolution must be subject to ratification by National Executive Council (NEC) of party.
He said they were still waiting for NEC to ratify the dissolution in accordance with the PDP constitution adding that he and Kugama are still bonafide members of PDP and would not be following Nyako to APC.

But the statement of Madaki-led faction also stated that PDP described the alleged conversion of the PDP secretariat to APC as one of the greatest acts of impunity in the party, questioning his integrity in fighting impunity in the party.

"As stakeholders of PDP, we are always surprised anytime Nyako claimed that there is impunity in the PDP as if he has forgotten that it is on record that he did not contest in the party primaries when he was given the party ticket outright; to him then, democracy was in action," stated statement

The statement claimed that it is a relief that Nyako who had been a political liability has finally left the party with his son and in-laws.
It added that Nyako, “as a  drowning man, has decided to move into a sinking ship called APC which he claimed that he is nursing ambition to use the platform to install his son or relative as the next governor of the state.”
