The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Osun State Thursday embarked on a peaceful demonstration in Osogbo, the state capital to protest against the conduct of the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.

Members of the party were drawn from all the 30 Local Government Areas in the state to converge on the freedom park as early as 10.00am.

The APC members who were astonished by what they described as poor conduct of Anambra election by the Independent National Electoral

Commission (INEC) said the electoral body failed woefully in the conduct of the poll.
Led by the interim state chairman of the party, Mr Adelowo Adebiyi, the protesting members of the party numbering about 3,000 however called for the cancellation of the election.

The aggrieved APC members who later moved to the INEC office along Gbongan/Ibadan road, Osogbo delivered a protest letter to the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in the state. The letter contained the position of the party as it affects Anambra election.

The party urged all well meaning Nigerians including notable leaders of thoughts to prevail on INEC to ensure that the wish of the people of Anambra counts in the election.

"All evidence available to Nigerians and INEC itself show clearly that the election held on the 16th of November 2013 in Anambra had been deliberately programmed to fail all tests of a free and fair election and as such should be cancelled outright".

Spokesman of the party, Kunle Oyatomi also said "if the electoral body insists on conducting a supplementary election against the popular demand of the people of this country, APC in the State of Osun will have no option but to call on the National Assembly to dissolve INEC as currently constituted and direct the presidency to reconstitute a new body to ensure a fresh election in Anambra State that will be seen to be free and fair, and conducted only after a new and authentic voters register has been compiled.

"It is totally strange for INEC, which initially accepted that some of its officials were culpable in the failure of the Anambra governorship election to now want to accept and build on a flawed process to arrive at an acceptable outcome. That is not the kind of election Nigeria hopes for and APC in the State of Osun will have none of it.

"It is significantly illogical for Jega’s INEC to argue that the magnitude of the infractions at the last election in Anambra was not sufficient to cancel the election outright. We cannot trust a body with such illogical thinking to do a good job in the next election especially because even the basis of that process – which is the voters register – had been mysteriously mutilated so massively that a considerable number of voters could not find their names on a register that had contained their names at the verification process," he said.
