Former Vice-President, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, Wednesday received encomiums in Abuja at a public presentation of a book chronicling his political-cum-legal battles during his tenure as the country's vice-president.
Between 2004 and 2007, he won 14 different court cases mainly against the government of President Olusegun Obasanjo, where served as vice-president.

Former military President, Ibrahim Babangida who chaired the event, in his opening remarks, eulogised the political career  of  Atiku which culminated in  several landmark judicial pronouncements that formed the theme of the book launch.

The erstwhile maximum ruler  described Atiku  as a dogged fighter, a patriot  and a statesman whose audacity to challenge the system gave rise to the court decisions.
Governor Babangida Aliyu of Niger State followed suit, describing the former vice-president as the best President Nigeria is yet to have.

The book, titled: “Landmark Constitutional Law Cases in Nigeria 2004-2007: The Atiku Abubakar Cases,” attracted a large crowd of eminent Nigerians from judicial, business and political circles. Other dignitaries present at the Shehu Yar'Adua Centre, Abuja, venue of the event included the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Hon. Aminu Tambuwal and his deputy, Hon. Emeka Ikedioha.

Others included representatives of the governors of Sokoto, Kwara, Enugu and Kano States. A former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Malam Adamu Ciroma and a number of traditional rulers also graced the occasion.

The national leader of the All Progressive Congress (APC), Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu was represented by the spokesman of the APC, Alhaji Lai Mohammed.

Tinubu said: "Atiku was misunderstood by many Nigerians for resolving his political crisis through the courts when he was Vice President. But we thank God that the efforts he took in those days have become the bedrock of our democracy today."

The President of the Dangote Group of Companies, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, who was represented by Alhaji Issa Yusuf, also described the former vice-president as a business mentor.
Over N50 million was raised at the launch by authors of the book, Professor Maxwell Gidado and Mr. Chidi Ojukwu.
