The Anambra State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Wednesday suspended Mr. Ossy Ezenwa, the Director General of the campaign organisation of Mr. Tony Nwoye, the party’s candidate in the governorship election for alleged anti-party activities.

Also suspended was Hon. Ken Arinze, the Director of Protocol of the campaign organization.
The PDP chairman in the state, Ken Emeakayi who announced the suspension at a media briefing in Awka last night said the party found their statements since the governorship election at variance with the position of the State working committee (SWC) and the National Working Committee (NWC) of the party on the election.

Their statements at press conferences, he said, were aimed at tainting the image of the national officers of the party and bringing them to disrepute especially those directed at the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Chief Olisa Metuh who said he was on his own for saying that the party’s candidate in the flawed election would participate in the supplementary election on Saturday.

The Director General of Nwoye campaign organization had in two successive press conferences since the election said Nwoye would not participate in the supplementary election since that would mean according dignity and legitimacy to a process that was flawed abinitio.

But Emeakayi who said the decision to suspend the duo was taken after a meeting of the state Executive committee to review their activities explained that the action was in line with the party’s constitution and that they had been referred to the party’s disciplinary committee for appropriate action.
Efforts to reach Nwoye’s campaign Director-Generals on the phone did not yield but Nwoye described the suspension as balderdash.

He said he didn’t hold discussions with anybody at both the national or state levels of the party and that they had earlier taken a decision not to participate in the supplementary election, adding that whatever his Director-General and Director of Protocol said was in consultation with him .

He said that if anybody should be expelled from the party, it is Emeakayi whom he alleged worked for the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) against his own party during the election. “Who is the State Working Committee? Emeakayi is everything. He is the state chairman and the State Working Committee.”
