Residents of Apapa Government Reserved Area (AGRA), have called on the Lagos State Government to execute a Lagos State High Court’s judgment ordering it to demolish all illegal structures constituting a nuisance in the GRA.
The Lagos High Court had in April, 2013 in a ruling given by Justice Adedayo Oyebanji ordered the State government to abate the existing nuisance in the community and prevent recurrence of the nuisance.
It also ordered the government to prohibit the selling and hawking of any goods, articles, wares on all streets in the GRA in accordance with Street Trading and Illegal Marloxts (Prohibition) Law Chapter S12 Laws of Lagos State. The judgment added that “the state government and its agents shall prohibit the use of any road or street in Apapa GRA as an illegal bus stop within 30 days from the date hereof.”
Residents of the GRA had in July 2011 instituted a suit to compel the Ministries of the Environment, Physical Planning, Water Front and Infrastructure Development and the State’s Environmental Sanitation Enforcement Agency to demolish all illegal and berthing points that constitute points of entry into the GRA from Ajegunle.
The residents also sought to prohibit selling or hawking of any goods or wares on all streets in their neighborhood and forbid the construction of any structure on roads, the use of any set back, road or street as a mechanic workshop.
