The Ekiti State Police Command has threatened to summon the management of a basic health centre in Ado-Ekiti, which was recently invaded by a group of people suspected to be ritualists, for interrogation.

In the early hours of Saturday, a five-man gang of ritualists allegedly invaded the health facility located in Irona quarters in the state capital and demanded newly born babies from the nurses and other medical officers on duty.

But speaking with journalists on telephone in Ado-Ekiti, the state Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mr. Victor Babayemi, said the need to quiz the management of the centre was due to its failure to call the attention of the command to the incident.

“We want to ask them why they did not find it necessary to report a grievous incident of this nature to the Police. No official report had been made by the medical officials in any Police Station in connection with such a grievous and frightening incident,” he declared.
According to him, the command has sent out its detectives to make findings and gather information on how to bring the perpetrators to book.

Meanwhile, activities yesterday returned to the troubled health centre, where ritualists had invaded to cart away babies for ritual purposes.

Investigations revealed that such an incident was not entirely strange to the medical centre, as  some armed men had visited the centre thrice within a spate of 12 months, where property worth thousands of naira were carted away.

Despite the incident, pregnant women and other patients were sighted at the hospital yesterday seeking medical helps from officials of the centre.
It was gathered that what attracted public attention to the last invasion was the terrible dimension the issue had assumed.

It was learnt that the aged night guard that had been working in the hospital died last week, while the man had been complaining  before his demise that he was not on the payroll of the council.
However, the Chairman of Ado-Ekiti Local Government Area, Hon. Tope Olanipekun, had suspended night duty in the centre, pending the reinforcement of appropriate securing services.
