President Goodluck JonathanThere were strong indications  Thursday that President Goodluck Jonathan would declare his intention to seek a re-election in the 2015 general election next year.

The Special Adviser to the President Jonathan on Political Affairs, Ali Ahmed Gulak and former Deputy Senate President, Ibrahim Mantu, at a meeting of the Elders’ Advisory Council of the Goodluck Support Group (GSG) in Abuja, stated that the president had been under intense pressure by his numerous supporters to contest the 2015 presidential election.

Gulak, however, said President Jonathan would not declare to run for the election until next year as he said, his boss was still focused on reconstructing Nigeria.
"The president had told the whole nation that his intention would only be known in 2014 as he would use all these years to work for Nigeria,” he said.

Gulak also said Nigerians in the Diaspora were itching to return back home in order to cast their votes for the People Democratic Party (PDP) in the forthcoming elections.

"Since our last meeting, we have received various support groups being coordinated by the GSG. We have, as of today, 1,665. The last to visit was the Ochendo Solidarity Movement from Abia State. About 150 (groups) of them came to this office. We discussed. They have called on Mr. President to declare his intention. They said  they were not flattering him,” he said.
Gulak added that the Diaspora population were enthusiastic about the organisation when it launched its United States branch.

“They told us that they would not only stick to vote but they would mobilise themselves to come back and register and also ask their relatives to vote for PDP,” he added.

Earlier, the chairman of the elders’ council, Senator Ibrahim Mantu, stated that he had received numerous calls from political groups and media organisations on the activities of the council.
Also present at the meeting were Senator Wash Pam, Ambassor Yusuf Mamman, Alhaji Abba Dabo, Alhaji Lili Gabbari, amongst others.

In his remarks, Mantu said: “I have received so many phone calls from journlaists and many of my colleagues have received calls from different groups and media organisations both electronic and print to talk about Elders’ Council of Goodluck Support Groups. The personalities in this group are the shakers and movers of politics in the county, so each and every member of GSG is an institution.
