Two Deputy Inspectors – General of Police (DIGs), the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Attahiru Jega, as well as six other Federal Electoral Commissioners and 15 Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) are billed to supervise the November 16 governorship election in Anambra State.
At the moment, the two DIGs, Emmanuel Udoji of C Department and Solomon Leha of Operations Department, Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, are already in the state to ensure that the election is violence free.
Speaking yesterday during a meeting with the political party stakeholders and the governorship candidates at the State Police Headquarters, Awka, Udoji said that the Inspector–General of Police (IG), Mohammed Abubukar, has directed them to monitor the election and ensure that it is devoid of any violence.
He said the message of the IG to them was also meant to be transmitted to their supporters not to resort to any form of violence during the election, no matter the level of provocation, vowing that the Police authority will not take it kindly with any party or individual who foment trouble during the election.
He said the police will mobilise enough men and materials to Anambra State to ensure that the governorship election is a huge success, and that they would work with sister security agencies to ensure enough manpower for the election.
