Rivers State Governor, Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, dazzled the crowd at the Okrika National Field, venue of the well-attended funeral service of President Goodluck Jonathan’s mother-in-law, Madam Charity Fyneface Oba.

Amaechi gyrated happily, danced, sang and clapped to a Christian praise and worship song rendered in Igbo language to the admiration of both high and low at the occasion. Women clad in ceremonial uniforms joined the fun and ‘mobbed’ Governor Amaechi during his sonorous rendition of the Christian hymn.

Many Rivers indigenes ascribed their governor’s soul-lifting performance to a secret peace meeting he had with President Jonathan and the Bayelsa State Governor, Seriake Dickson, on Thursday.

Many of those present were palpably happy and offered prayers that this would mark the beginning of a peaceful solution to the political imbroglio rocking the state. The First Lady, who sobbed uncontrollably throughout her speech, described how her departed mother raised her to be a good woman.

She said, “You raised me from a tender age, until I was able to stand on the world’s stage. You taught me right from wrong, and made me virtuous and strong. You put in my heart God’s own song”.

The First Lady later livened up and took to the floor with her guests, among who were fellow Dame, Abimbola Fashola, First Lady of Lagos State, who represented her husband, wives of all the governors of the South South and the South East who added colour, glitz and glamour to the occasion as they were all decked in uniformed attires.
