Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Anambra State recognised by the national leadership of the party, Prince Ken Emeakeyi, weekend in Awka, declared that the battle of attrition ravaging the chapter since the parallel primaries on August 24 that produced two candidates for the November 16 governorship election in the state, was over.
The state chapter of the party had on August 24 conducted two primaries election; one by the Ejike Oguebego-led faction at Emmaus House and the other by the Ken Emeakayi faction at the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, both in Awka. While the Oguebego faction produced Senator Andy Uba as the candidate, Emeakayi’s faction produced Comrade Tony Nwoye.
Since the primaries, a sort of logjam has ensured at the national headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), as to which of the primaries is authentic and acceptable.
But Saturday at Amansea, a border town between Anambra and Enugu States during a ceremony to present Nwoye to the PDP faithful and supporters upon his return from Abuja with members of the Emeakayi-led state executive, Emeakayi told the crowd of supporters that the battle was over and that he derived his power from President Goodluck Jonathan, Vice President Namadi Sambo, Senator President, David Mark, his deputy, Ike Ekweremadu, the national chairman of PDP, Alhaji Bamanga Tukur, among others.
“I tell you now that officially there is no more rumuor or negotiation as to who is the candidate of PDP in the November 16, governorship election in Anambra State.
“What I have come to do today is to show you people officially the next governor of the state and his deputy,” he said to the admiration of the crowd.
“With the authority I derived from above and in my capacity as chairman of PDP in Anambra State, I present to you a grassroots politician who has been tested , who contested election and won, Comrade Tony Nwoye.”
He called on the supporters of all other aspirants who vcontested in the primaries to coalesce into the Tony Nwoye campaign organisation as one entity as factions created during the primaries have, according to him, ceased to exist.
He added that all the aspirants are members of PDP who signed to work together when an aspirant emerges.
“Nwoye has emerged through transparent primaries,” he said.
“All the aspirants are members of PDP. There is nothing more like Oguebego or Emeakayi factions.”
They have ceased to exist, he said, stressing that the only thing any supporter that loved the party could do is to go back and mobilise people to vote and deliver PDP in their respective wards during the November 16 governorship election so that they would emerge victorious.” .
Nwoye, in his brief remark, said Anambra belongs to PDP and that the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA)- led government in the state had led it astray in the last eight years without bothering to conduct Local Council elections or provide employment.
He said t Governor Peter Obi’s recent attempt to conduct job interviews at the twilight of his administration was a smokescreen to hoodwink people to vote APGA so that it will continue to deceive the people of the state. He added that he did it to deceive them to vote him for a second term but that now his time is up.
He said the PDP administration will bring the needed change.
The train later embarked on a road show through the Nnamdi Azikiwe Avenue in Awka to the Udoka Housing Estate secretariat of the state chapter of the party.
