Gov. EmmaSixteen journalists from the print and electronic media will on Monday, September 22 begin a one-week training at the world renown Thomson Reuters Institute in London under the sponsorship of the Delta State Government.
The theme of the training is "Investigative Journalism" and will focus on ethics and the principles of investigation in news writing.

The training is the second to be sponsored by the Delta State Government. Last year, 12 journalists were at the Thomson Reuters Institute for one-week training on News Writing.

Giving approval for the training, Dr. Emmanuel Uduaghan, CON, governor of Delta State, said it is in line with his administration's programme of building human capacity in all spheres of endeavours. According to him, as the watch dog of the society and being in the vanguard of the protection of democratic values, journalists need to sharpen their skills to meet the challenges of news writing in an increasing global village.

The team which comprises correspondents of major print and electronic media in the state as well the permanent secretary in the Ministry of Information, Mr. Austin Mowah, will be led by the Commissioner for Information, Chike Ogeah Esq, who will declare the training open on Monday.

The chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Delta State Council, Mr Norbert Chiazor, expressed gratitude to Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan for his magnanimity in the sponsorship of the Delta journalists to the Reuters training. Chiazor said Dr. Uduaghan has been of tremendious support to Delta NUJ and described him as the most media friendly governor in Nigeria.

He expressed confidence that the training would impact positively on Nigerian journalism given the status of Reuters as a global news leader. The NUJ chairman assured that with the support of the state government more journalists would be exposed to such oversea training and urged those who could not make the London training to be patient.
