LAGOS—The Nigerian Bar Association, NBA, Ikeja chapter, has called for the prosecution of sacked acting Chief Judge of Abia State for allegedly falsifying his age.
It also scored the administration of President Goodluck Jonathan low in terms of policies and measures for the development of the country.
Commending the Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Aloma Muhktar on the disciplinary measure meted out on the sacked acting Chief Judge, the Bar said he was not a worthy ambassador of the Bench.
On the state of the nation, Chairman of Ikeja NBA, Mr. Monday Ubani, also berated the states and local governments for low performance.
Ubani said: “They are all guilty as the people are not feeling the impact of governance at all levels despite huge allocations collected by three tiers of government every month.
”We demand a reversal for the sake of this country and for generations unborn. The people have a role to play by understanding what is going on in the first place and demanding a change like other countries are presently doing.”
He pointed out that in spite of the state of emergencies in some states and huge spending on the issue, “insecurities, killings, violence, robbery, bombing and mass murder persist all over the country; it shows that we are not employing the right prescription to these intractable problems.”
On lecturers strike, Ubani urged  the Federal Government to save Nigerians from undue embarrassment by honouring its agreement with Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, immediately to bring the strike to end.
He said the fact that the strike in the universities had kept students at home for many weeks was a blow to the education sector “which has deteriorated so much that no Nigerian University is currently listed in the top 100 universities in the world.”
