Delta State Commissioner for Women Affairs, Community and Social Development, Mrs. Betty Efekodha, has faulted child marriage in all its ramifications.
Efekodha during the 39th national Annual General Meeting/Investiture of the Girls’ Brigade Nigeria, in Asaba, called on Nigerian women, especially mothers to reject any attempt to legalise child marriage.
She implored members of the Girls’ Brigade Nigeria, to uphold the core values of the organisation by putting God first in all things in life.
Earlier, President of the Girls’ Brigade Nigeria, Mrs. Chidi Ugeh, said that the organisation was geared towards bringing up the girl-child from five -21 years, spiritually, physically, vocationally and morally to become useful citizens of the society.
Noting that the organisation has been preaching against social ills such as drug abuse, armed robbery, prostitution, child trafficking, among other vices that thrive among the girls, Ugeh appealed to public spirited individuals to help the organisation to acquire a piece of land in Abuja for the building of its National Secretariat and to also, help fund its activities.
Speaking also, Special Adviser to Delta State Governor on Labour and Industrial Relations, Mike Okeme, called on the three tiers of government in the country, philanthropic organisations and the general public to partner the leadership of the Girls’ Brigade Nigeria in its efforts to reposition the girl-child for a better tomorrow.
