OSOGBO—The royal families of Osogbo in Osun State have disowned the traditional ruler of the town, the Ataoja of Osogbo, Oba Jimoh Olanipekun, declaring him as an illegal occupant of the Ataoja stool.
The ruling houses also declared that there was no traditional ruler in the town going by the judgment of an Osogbo High Court.
Speaking at a press conference addressed by all the representatives of the ruling houses led by Alhaji Nasiru Oyeniyi, the royal families  told Oba Olanipekun to vacate the throne.
Alhaji Oyeniyi, who spoke on behalf of the four ruling houses, Sogbo, Matanmi, Lahanmi-Oyipi and Lajomo (Olude and Aderohunmu), said Oba Olanipekun did not belong to any of the ruling houses and wondered how he got himself to the Ataoja throne.
He said the judgment of the state high court, Osogbo, which declared the stool of Ataoja vacant and nullified the selection and appointment of Oba Olanipekun, was still inforce
He enjoined Oba Olanipekun to toe the path of honour and vacate the throne to avoid being disgraced out of the palace.
He said: “We wish to state clearly that Olanipekun is just an interim occupant on the stool of our forefathers. We are only waiting for the Court of Appeal in Akure to determine the appeal of Olanipekun by upholding the judgment of the Osun State High Court which dethroned Olanipekun as Ataoja of Osogbo.
“Two judges of the Osun State High Court, Justices Yinka Aderibigbe and Jide Falola, in their separate rulings, had ordered Olanipekun to vacate the throne of Ataoja of Osogbo and declared the throne vacant.”
He added that the royal families were in support of the ongoing Osun Osogbo festival but would not participate in any of the rites of the festival to avoid crisis.
