Gov. Peter Obi yesterday flagged-off the Afor Ukpor-Umunuko- Nza Ozubulu road today amidst dancing and drinking by the people of the town.
Flagging-off the road, Gov. Obi said that a lot of work had already been done on the road, that as a matter of policy, he flagged-off projects that had already been started to prove to the people the seriousness of the Government unlike in the past, when projects were flagged-off without any work being done. He revealed that his Government has spent over 12 Billion Naira on various projects in Nnewi South. Earlier, the State Commissioner for Works, Arc Callistus Ilozumba said that the 21-kilometer road is costing the State 3 Billion Naira. He Said a good contractor, IDC, is handling the job with full compliments of design. He called on the people of the State to take ownership of the project and monitor it religiously.
In his welcome speech, the President General of the town, Col Anthony Ogunna( Retd) described the road as Gov Obi's wonderful gift to the town and a clear manifestation of his love for Ukpor people. His words: "Okwute, Ndi Igbo, the Ukpor people are full of praises for the excellent way you administer Anambra State generally with your ANIDS programme, which is also well manifested in our town. You are indeed an accomplished administrator. We salute your vision, courage, dynamism and devotion to duty."
Describing the Governor as "the great gift of God to Anambra State", the PG said that beyond road construction in Ukpor, that the Governor had constructed a block of 5 classrooms at St. Theresa Primary School, Ukpor; renovated the Primary Health Centre at Uboma, Ukpor; renovated the maternity ward and staff quarters of the General Hospital, Ukpor; building of a health centre at Umudike, Ukpor; provision of water supply to the community, located at Ukpor High School, though yet to be reticulated, among others.
Speaking , the member representing Nnewi South 11 Constituency, Hon. Rita thanked the Governor for what he is doing in the State. She said that he had, from his actions, shown that he is a leader to be followed at all times since he will not lead the people astray.
