Despite initial protests by governorship aspirants in Anambra State over the N10 million fee for party nomination form slammed on them by the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the party secretariat was a beehive of activities on Monday as aspirants jostled to submit their forms. While submission of nomination form for the ticket closed on Monday, screening of candidates is slated for today. Not less than 30 persons had submitted their nomination forms as at 5.00 p.m. on Monday after paying the mandatory N10 million nomination fee.
Women aspirants paid N5 million to obtain the form.All the interested aspirants had earlier parted with N1 million to purchase the expression of interest form.Payment for the nomination form by the female aspirants was done for the first time, as all female aspirants on the platform of the party were usually given the form free in the past. Former Minister of Women Affairs, Josephine Anenih, and Agape Dike-Kramer were the only female aspirants seen at the party secretariat ostensibly, to submit their nomination forms.
The screening committee is expected to look into the credentials submitted by the aspirants to determine their suitability.
