A Chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, Chief Ebenezer Babatope, has condemned the action of Lagos State governor, Babatunde Raji Fashola, for deporting 72 indigenes of Anambra State last month.

In a statement issued in Lagos Sunday, Chief Babatope, who was the Director of Publicity of the defunct Unity Party of Nigeria, UPN, in the second republic, said: “I have read all arguments on the deportation of some Anambra State indigenes living in Lagos by the Fashola administration, I submit that the action is highly regrettable, illegal as well as being a grand assault on the fundamental rights of the affected Nigerians under the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.

“Babatunde Fashola must urgently reverse this disturbing policy with apologies to the affected Nigerians. Although Governor Fashola has a good record of performance in office, his present action will destroy his credibility. All well meaning Nigerians must denounce this obnoxious policy.”
