ABU DHABI: Saif bin Zayed Reviews newly invented Passport and Document Scanner

General H.H Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior, reviewed on Tuesday at the Abu Dhabi Police General Headquarters, a device that was invented by Sergeant Amer Al Jabri, form the Directorate General of Residency and Foreigners Affairs at the Ministry of Interior. The device is a first-of-its-kind and is used to scan and read all types of travel documents and passports used around the world.

His Highness was briefed on the new invention, which marks a quantum leap towards enhancing police and security work and could be leveraged across all land border points and airports. This invention further promotes the government’s vision aimed at positioning the UAE in the forefront of the most developed countries in terms of safety and security.

For his part, the inventor explained that the device requires no electrical connections, and is made of “eco-friendly” materials; which maintains the occupational safety of employees. “It is a low-cost device that includes a microscope, which provides a magnification of up to twenty times larger and clearer of the original image than in similar devices,” he said. He added that the new device has a scanning feature to read airline tickets, barcodes and international ID documents; in addition to a number of integrated properties and applications, unlike other devices which can only perform one task at a time.

It is worth mentioning that the Innovation Center at the Ministry of Interior adopts creative ideas and proposals, provides them with the necessary resources and facilities, and supports their implementation within the work system; in order to strengthen and develop performance. Moreover, the center facilitates, adopts, and applies creative ideas and initiatives, and provides innovators with assistance in order to develop their creative suggestions and initiatives. It also honors outstanding staff members, in recognition of their efforts and contributions.
