The Airline Operators’ of Nigeria (AON) has said that the association would take a common stand on the new charges imposed on non-scheduled operators by the aviation parastatals.
Speaking to journalists in Lagos, the Chairman of AON, Nogie Meggison, said the association convened a meeting in Abuja in preparation for its meeting with the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) which collects the charges on behalf of the agencies.

“I am aware of the increment in charges by NAMA. As a non-scheduled operator, I have discussed the issue with NAMA. AON will speak with one voice on the matter and I want to believe that NAMA will look at the issue from a professional point of view.
Meanwhile, the chairman said the association was poised to growing the aviation industry in Nigeria, remarking that one of the ways that AON would move the industry forward would be to restore passengers’ confidence in air travel, describing the safety of passengers as “paramount” to the association.

‘‘We are going to form a formidable team that will move the airline business forward. We will bring the operators together under one umbrella, engage relevant aviation authorities to stimulate the growth of airlines in Nigeria,” he said.
Meggison said the election, which he won, was conducted peacefully, adding that 20 out the 26 air operator certificate holders in Nigeria voted.
He added that said the positions of secretary, assistant secretary and the others were not filled because none of the members vied for them, noting that the positions would be filled soon.

“We are also going to ensure that we restore the confidence of passengers flying in the Nigerian airspace so that they will continue to fly. We will create a conducive environment to attract investors to the sector,”  Meggison said.
