Guidelines for Submitting Article on Codewit Site

Codewit.com is a tool for people to share information, create community, and hold the powerful accountable. Freedom of information and speech is a legitimate and absolute human right, so in Codewit.com we proudly exercise this right while maintaining high standards of fairness, accuracy, and accountability.
If you’re a citizen of the world who shares those values, you are invited to register as one of our citizen journalists and contribute articles, photographs, and audio or video reporting. You can contribute your own stories, participate in discussions about local and global issues, and get help from editors and other journalists with planning and writing your next story. You can also submit upcoming events to our community calendar.
Article Criteria:
  • Article submissions are subject to length restrictions. These are outlined below:
  • Article Title: maximum 150 characters.
  • Article: maximum of 15,000 characters or roughly 2,500 words.
  • Author Bio: 400 characters or roughly 60 words.

Please Note: These character limits include all spaces, line breaks, paragraph breaks and punctuation, so the actual number of characters will be less than the above numbers.

Article Formatting and Links

We strongly recommend that authors submitting to Codewit News copy and paste articles from a basic text editor like Notepad or NoteTab Light. Following this suggestion will ensure that paragraph breaks, line length and other basic formatting will be properly handled by our submission form. Copying and pasting content from applications like MS Word can and does result in a variety of formatting problems. The reason for this is that MS Word and similar applications use non-ASCII, sometimes invisible, characters that are copied with article content into our submission form, causing articles to appear very differently from the way they were submitted.

Keeping the above in mind, it is not necessary for authors to use HTML tags for specifying font size or to create paragraph and line breaks. Use of HTML should be minimal, and we suggest HTML tags only be used for creating live links to sites, services or products. Any link that begins with “HTTP://” will automatically be clickable. For example, “http://www.codewit.com” would appear as a hyperlink. To hyperlink a word or phrase, HTML anchor tags need to be placed around that word or phrase.

Example: Nigerian and African NewsSite

Copyright and Violations

Codewit World News’s policy prohibits the use of copyrighted material in a manner that violates the copyright owner’s rights. In general, this means that authors should only submit their own original written work to which they have natural copyright.

In cases where copyright is disputed (usually as a result of plagiarism or unauthorized copying), articles will be immediately removed without recourse or discussion, regardless of the arguments presented by the disputing parties.

Authors who are found to be in breach of copyright will be banned and all of their submitted content removed.

Actions to Take in the Event of Copyright Violation

Codewit.com is a news site and content article directory. We act as an intermediary between authors and publishers and post guidelines for both regarding copyright adherence. However, copyright resides with the authors who submit to our directory, not with us. As a consequence, Codewit.com has no legal standing to enforce copyright on behalf of authors.

In the event of copyright violation, we advise authors to exercise their rights under The Digital Millennium Copyright Act of 1998 by taking the following steps:

1. Contact the offending party directly, asking them to rectify the copyright violation.

2. If the above fails, contact the ISP that hosts the offending website and the domain registrar that holds the registration for the website domain.

Information for the domain registrar and hosting service can generally be obtained by doing a lookup using any WhoIs service such as:

http://www.whois.net

http://www.networksolutions.com

3. Most Domain Registrars and ISPs will respond to a copyright enforcement request by warning or suspending the offending party. If they fail to do so, have a lawyer make the same request in writing. This last action rarely fails to produce results.

Article Submission Guidelines

Article submissions to Codewit.com are free and new additions to our database are indexed once a day, roughly every 24 hours. This means that any article you submit will be searchable by, and available to, visitors the day after it is submitted. Before submitting an article, please search the Codewit.com database by author name or article title to ensure your articles have no similar title

  • Submissions that are commercial or advertorial in the content will be removed from the Codewit.com database. Specifically, that means advertisements, sales letters, promotional copy, or articles with blatant and excessive self-promotion or hype. Codewit.com is a news website and article content directory, not a forum for advertising commercial products, services or programs.
  • Submissions that are less than 300 words will be removed from the Codewit.com database. Longer articles may also be removed if they contain no useful content or are submitted for the sole purpose of obtaining backlinks or promoting a product or service.
  • Submissions that consist of a few lines of text with a link pointing to another site where the article supposedly resides will be removed.
  • Article submissions that are plagiarized or in violation of another author’s copyright will be removed, and the author will be banned. Refer to our copyright policy for more information.
  • Article submissions that contain or reference adult or pornographic content; that are defamatory, libellous, inflammatory or offensive; that promote hate literature or illegal activities or that are in violation of another person’s, or company’s, rights or trademarks; will be removed.
  • Article submissions that include tag (keyword) clouds will be removed. All words in an article are indexed. The inclusion of tags is unnecessary.
  • Articles should have proper English, spelling, grammar, punctuation, capitalization and sentence structure and should be proofed before submission.
  • Article spinning is prohibited. Authors who submit spun articles will be banned.

Who we are

Many in the world are heralding the dawn of an “African Millennium” culturally and politically. Africa is poised to undergo more changes and wield more influence in the world than ever before. Until now, much of what is visually documented about Africa is a view from outside, seen through eyes that are not African and, in some cases, not Africa friendly. We believe that it is only Africans that can tell their stories to the world and in that manner will gain renewed respect and authentically express their promising future. Based on this background, Codewit World News was founded. Our mission is to provide a global voice for Africans to tell their own stories to the world.

As it is said, youth are the backbone of society. This is no different in Africa.  But sadly, African youth is left without a spine. In an attempt to mobilize African’s young minds, for them to believe and own their future not to mention pave the way for the next generation, it’s imperative, therefore, that they are exposed to an alternative media source. An information outlet designed to highlight the diabolical historical past of our colonial experience & ancestors with a vision of a New Africa. Codewit.com is a news website dedicated to promoting Africa’s independence from global influences.

Codewit World News (CWN) is an outstanding, groundbreaking website that encourages citizen journalists to report on ongoing corruption and government malfeasance in Africa.

Who we are?

Codewit World News (formerly known as Codewit Global Network from inception) is a citizen digital journalism and communication organization and an outstanding, groundbreaking website that encourages citizen journalists to report ongoing corruption and government malfeasance in Africa. . It was established in December 2007.

The organization’s headquarters are in  Finland, the UK, and Nigeria (Regnum: 203.472) The staff headquarters are also in Helsinki, but due to the collaborative nature of our work, we have advisers, authors, contributors, and journalists from all over the world who collaborate with us to shape the CWN Activities and Codewit News. With correspondents in nearly 15 countries, the service provides international news, features, and analysis from Africa.

Codewit World News is also an African e-newspaper that covers a wide range of topics including business, careers, education, entertainment & sports, free downloads, global news, jobs & vacancies, technology, travel & places, and many others.

Vision

At Codewit, our vision is to inspire the entire African people, starting with Nigerians, by employing credible media-driven platforms through which we can engage ourselves, as well as the rest of the world.

Remember, Information is power, and no stories need greater exposure than those of the African stories. Using Codewit as our perfect platform, we will attempt to rebuild the battered image of Africa and Nigeria at large. Onwutalobi Anthony Claret

Meaning of CODEWIT

The term Codewit is a terminology used by the founder to suggest a collective approach to mobilize African authors, journalists, and writers around the world to use the power of writing to help bring about change in Africa. To pursue this vision vigorously, the founder, Mr Onwutalobi separated it from the main organization and made it a subsidiary of Codewit Global Network which is a non-profit organization that deals with African immigrants in Diaspora

What are core Beliefs and Values?

Codewit believes that sound education would teach people, particularly African youths, to understand and challenge the present problems in their communities and search for an African solution. We, therefore, use technology in innovative ways to further social change or voice our dissent on the wide range of issues affecting Africa. We believe that mental emancipation is a key foundation to realizing African economic determinism and political freedom.

To achieve this, we extensively discuss issues that will benefit the growth of the African continent. We campaign that every African youth should be given an equal opportunity to obtain basic education as a key weapon to fight for a new Africa. We promote and facilitate the development of an active, inter-related, progressive African community through networking, culture, and electronic technology. Our organization draws its inspiration through the formation of strategic alliances with other sectors of society facing oppression, such as our African society, racial minorities, women, youths, peasants, and other dispossessed people on our continent.

As the world moves on with the rapid growth of the information and technology revolution, which is the driving force of the process of globalization, Codewit employs this resource as its primary medium to educate and provide its audience, especially Africans, with up-to-date information and knowledge that is necessary to prepare our next generation for a better Africa. “Online Technology Gives Codewit Activists Real Power to Change the Status Quo – Without Taking to the Streets”

Codewit Global Network is one of the members of the battalion of the mighty force of the continental movement for change and renaissance. We strive to resolve some prevalent social, political, and economic issues currently facing Africa. We strive to achieve this by building a solid network of political and human rights activists that will change the future of our continent with new ideas and views.

Codewit also promotes and enriches the public with Africa’s enormous blessings, achievements, and challenges by trying to showcase the aspirations, successes, and concerns of Africa and Africans in the Diaspora. By honouring these distinguished and gallant Africans today, we are confirming this long-held view that we are out of Africa. By reporting on the positive images of Africa without glossing over the negatives, we are, in a small way, making a dent against the Afro-pessimism so dominant out there.
