Rivers State has been adjudged the best state in the federation in the area of malaria elimination and control programme.

This was made known at the 11th bi-annual meeting of states’ malaria control  programme managers in Abakalike, Ebonyi State, organised by National Malaria Control Programme in collaboration with the Roll Back Malaria partners to deliberate on the successes and challenges of controlling malaria in Nigeria.

Speaking during the presentation of the award to Rivers State Health Commissioner, Dr. Sampson Parker, in Port Harcourt, the World Bank Specialist in charge of Malaria, Dr. Moriam Jagun, commended the state for doing so much in the fight to control and eradicate malaria in the country.

She said Rivers State Ministry of Health came first in the South-South geo-political zone and  first nationwide, using the scores from the three different segments of the competition and the ability of the state to address the previous agreements in the bi-annual meeting communiqué.
