Kogi State government has said that there would not be food crisis in the state this year, irrespective of the flood that devastated crops and farmlands last year because of the aggressive food production drive embarked upon by the state government.
State Deputy Governor, Mr Yomi Awoniyi, who made this known while presenting 1,500 metric tonnes of grains to farmers said government was determined to tackle food shortage in the state to ensure food security.
He noted that 10,000 hectares of farmland had already been cultivated for dry season farming, due to government’s determination to avert food shortage.
Awoniyi, however, commended the Federal Government for allocating grains to the state, pointing out that appropriate committees had been put in place in each of the 21 local government areas to ensure that the items get to the targeted beneficiaries.
He further said that the state government had embarked on cultivation of 10,000 hectares of dry season rice as part of its post-flood agricultural recovery programme.
