Nigeria: Anambra govt spends N128m on flood victims

peter obiSecretary to Anambra Government, SSG, Mr. Oseloka Obaze, has said that the government spent N128 million to resettle the 2012 flood victims in the state.

Obaze said at a news conference yesterday in Awka, that government spent the money on 57 communities affected by the flood.

According to him, N57 million out of N128 million was given for cassava and yam seedlings to the affected communities based on proper documentation.

He said the money was from the state government, adding that the N500 million from the Federal Government had not been disbursed.

He called on persons affected by the flood, whether in camp or outside in November 2012, to register with the authorities, to benefit from the compensation.

Obaze stated that a 7-man committee from the affected communities, was created to ensure that the real victims benefited from the resettlement process.

The SSG assured the residents that 2013 would show case lots of positive projects that would demonstrate good governance by the current administration.

He assured the public that the budget would be well implemented and all sectors given a face lift. He urged members of the public to pay their taxes for government to be proactive in its duties.
