Abuja—Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Senator Aisha Jummai Alhassan, has called on the Ministry of Petroleum Resources to accelerate plans to stop gas flaring for it to be conserved for domestic use. She lamented that statistics provided by donor parties had shown that about 95,300 women die from smoke alone, while others suffer from related health complications annually in Nigeria.
Speaking during a one-day consultative forum on gender issues in renewable energy management and options, Aisha Alhassan noted that energy professionals should embrace gender analysis as a tool to understanding energy needs of the entire population.
