The Accident Investigation Bureau (AIB) has denied reports that a plane crashed in the Oworonshoki area of Lagos State today, January 21, 2016

Widespread rumours had it that a plane flying into Lagos State from Gabon had crashed in the area.

However, AIB spokesman, Tunji Oketunbi told New Telegraph that the activity witnessed in the area was due to a mock search and rescue exercise being conducted by the police and aviation authorities.

The exercise, which involved helicopters and teams of policemen and rescuers, took place around the area where a helicopter crashed in August 2015, killing six persons.

The safety drill was reportedly organized to sharpen the responses of the necessary agencies to air disasters.
