Finland: Russians, Indians and Chinese most active seekers of Finnish residency

A total of 9,635 foreigners from non- EU and EEA countries applied for residency permits between January and June, according to the Finnish Immigration Service.

The number of applicants roughly corresponds with last year’s levels for the same period.

The most common application was made on the basis of family ties, with 43 percent of applicants seeking to move to Finland to join family members. 32 percent applied on the basis of employment, while 22 percent sought residency as students.

Russians formed the majority of hopefuls (1,832 people), followed by Indians (951) and Chinese (687).
