HACKERS sparked outrage yesterday after taking over Fox News’s Twitter page and declaring that Barack Obama had been assassinated.

The US broadcaster’s official Twitter page reported the president had been shot twice in a restaurant while campaigning in Iowa.

Its politics Twitter page @FoxNewsPolitics, which has 35,000 followers, said: “BREAKING NEWS: President Barack Obama assassinated, two gunshot wounds proved too much. It’s a sad 4th for America.”

A string of posts from the same account were not deleted for up to six hours.

Hacking group the Script Kiddies appeared to claim responsibility for the attack.

A spokesman hinted at future attacks, adding Fox “was selected because we figured their security would be just as much of a joke as their reporting”.

Fox News said: “The hacking is being investigated and FoxNews.com regrets any distress the false tweets may have created.”
