Issues to be discussed include ties between the two countries as well as between Russia and the EU as well as current international affairs.

The Finnish head of state is also to meet with Prime Minister Dmitri Medvedev and visit a food fair before returning home on Wednesday.

The two presidents have met once since Niinistö took office last spring. They held talks in Russian Karelia last June.

In October, the two presidents discussed Finnish-Russian child custody disputes. A planned meeting between them was unexpectedly called off. Medvedev then visited Helsinki in November, later sending a kitten as a gift to former president Tarja Halonen.

Niinistö’s visit will also feature corporate meetings. Minister of Agriculture and Forestry Jari Koskinen will join him on a visit to the 20th anniversary Prodexpo food fair in Moscow, which features a Finnish stand.

About 20 Finnish bakeries and producers of cheeses, sweets, snacks and coffee will exhibit at the fair, which runs February 11th through 15th.
