The number of over 55-year-old people in employment in Finland has grown substantially over the past 15 years, reveals Statistics Finland. The number of 55—64-year-old people in employment has soared from roughly 200,000 in 1997 to some 450,000 in 2012, translating to an increase of 22 percentage points in the employment rate of the age group to 58 per cent.
The increase is principally attributable to the fact that the number of people aged 55—64 years has grown by 250,000. Over the said period, also the employment rate of people aged 65—74 years has increased by 6 percentage points to 9.5 per cent as the age group grew by 114,000. As a result, there are currently some 52,000 65—74-year-old people in employment in Finland.
