The increasing sophistication of espionage malware delayed the detection of the data security breach at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs, Ari Uusikartano, the director general of the ministry's information and documentation division, views. According to Uusikartano, the information leakage was detected already in January, but the first signs of the breach were not detected until later in the spring.
“If we only were in a static situation, we could say that this is what we can use for detection. But infiltration techniques develop, and that caused the delay,” he said. On Wednesday, Uusikartano also revealed that the Ministry for Foreign Affairs has called on foreign authorities for technical support in the course of its probe. Meanwhile, he declined to specify the type of software used to scan the ministry's data networks for possible threats.
