Alleged organ harvesting scheme: According to Ekweremadu’s attorney, he has led a blameless life.

Gavin Irwin, lawyer to former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu, told Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court that the Senator had led a blameless life and that the allegations against him were “nothing short of preposterous”.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice, were yesterday, remanded in the UK Police custody after they were arraigned before the Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court for alleged conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.

The UK Metropolitan Police had, in a statement confirming the arrest of the couple, said the duo were charged to court, following an investigation by the police’ specialist crime team.

According to the Metropolitan Police, an investigation was launched into the allegation, after detectives were alerted to potential offences under modern slavery legislation, in May 2022.

A statement by the police department said: “A child has been safeguarded, and we are working closely with partners on continued support. As criminal proceedings are now underway, we will not be providing further details.”

The statement read:  “Beatrice Nwaneka Ekweremadu, 55 (10.9.66) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting.

“Ike Ekweremadu, 60 (12.05.62) of Nigeria is charged with conspiracy to arrange/facilitate the travel of another person with a view to exploitation, namely organ harvesting. They have both been remanded in custody and will appear at Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court later today (yesterday).”

Allegations of human trafficking

At the court hearing on yesterday, Prosecutor Damla Ayas said: “It is conspiracy in relation to human trafficking offences for the purposes of organ harvesting. The victim in this case is 15 years old. They, the couple, were interviewed at the police station. Both of the defendants have provided a prepared statement.

“Mr. Ekweremadu, in his prepared statement, denied allegations of human trafficking. He said ‘at no stage has he arranged transport for anyone with the intention to exploit them.’ His wife similarly denied the allegations in her prepared statement, the court heard.”

The prosecutors also told the court that “the Ekweremadus’ have a daughter, who has a kidney-related disease and has been on dialysis for quite some time. They told the court that it is believed that the plan was to use an organ from the boy on their daughter, who appears to need a kidney transplant.”

Ekweremadu and his wife had separate legal representations and prayed the court to release them on bail, but their prayer was, however, dismissed by the Magistrate. The couple has surrendered their passports to the UK government.

The couple was arrested at Heathrow Airport, on their way to Istanbul, Turkey and, according to the prosecutors, it is believed that they were on their way to procure another organ, as they were unable to harvest the organ of the boy. The prosecutors also stated that $20,000 was found on Ekweremadu.

According to sources, the red flag that stopped the organ from not being harvested came after the boy truthfully disclosed his age to the doctors at the Royal Free Hospital in the UK. The doctor reportedly cancelled the procedure.

The boy was taken from his family who, according to the prosecutors, treated him like a slave, after he escaped and found his way to the Police, where an investigation started, leading to the arrest of the couple.

Visa application

In a letter by Ekweremadu addressed to the Visa Section of the British High Commission, Abuja, dated December 28, 2021, acknowledging support for the visa application by the alleged victim, Ukpo Nwamini David, for the purposes of undergoing medical investigation for a kidney donation to Ms Sonia Ekweremadu.

The letter reads: “ I am writing in support of the visa application made by Mr. Ukpo Nwamini David, who is currently having a medical investigation for a kidney donation to Ms Sonia Ekweremadu. David and Sonia will be at the Royal Free Hospital, London, and I will be providing the necessary funding. I have enclosed a statement of my account.”

Court hearing

In his defence at the court hearing, Ekweremadu’s lawyer, Gavin Irwin, said:  “There is no question this is a serious allegation. Mr. Ekweremadu is a member of the Senate in Nigeria. He has previously held an even more senior role as deputy president of the senate.

“He is a member of the bar in Nigeria. He is a principal in a law firm that bears his name. Those issues taken together go way beyond him being a person of good character…rather that he has led a blameless life as a public servant.” Mr. Irwin added that the allegations were “nothing short of preposterous”.

Antonia Gray, representing Mrs. Ekweremadu, in her opening defence, said: “She has never been complicit or involved in any alleged illegal trafficking of any young person. She is a financial accountant, with an unblemished record.”

In her application for adjournment, Ms Ayas said: “In respect of these offences, Attorney General’s consent is required and the Crown require 14 days for that to be obtained.”

In a short ruling, Magistrate Lois Sheard said: “These are serious allegations and these matters are now adjourned until July 7, 2022, back here at Uxbridge.” Ms Sheard remanded both defendants into custody, ahead of their hearing.

Ekweremadu and his wife may face life imprisonment if found guilty and convicted to maximum sentence under the United Kingdom’s Modern Slavery Act 2015 (MSA 2015).

UK’s Modern Slavery Act

The act partly reads: “Under s 2, an individual commits an offence if they arrange or facilitate the travel of another with a view to that person being exploited. It is irrelevant whether that person consents to the travel, or whether they are a child or an adult.

“Under s 3 of MSA 2015, exploitation includes: slavery, servitude and forced or compulsory labour; sexual exploitation (which involves the commission of an offence under s 1(1)(a) of the Protection of Children’s Act 1978 (indecent photographs of children), or Pt 1 of SOA 2003 (eg, rape or sexual assault); removal of organs where a person is encouraged, required or expected to do anything which involves the commission of an offence under ss 32 or 33 of the Human Tissue Act 2004 (prohibition of commercial dealings in organs and restrictions on use of live donors); securing services etc by force, threats or deception; securing services etc from children and vulnerable persons (eg, physically or mentally ill or disabled).”

It further stated that anyone found guilty of “human trafficking is liable, on summary conviction, to 12 months’ imprisonment and/or unlimited fine,” adding that “on conviction on indictment, the maximum sentence is life imprisonment.”

Ekweremadu: International passport of organ donor reveals he’s 21

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 3 Second

Fresh reports obtained from the international passport of David Ukpo Nwamini, the supposed organ donor to the daughter of former Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu revealed he (Nwamini) is 21 years old.

The travelling passport disclosed that Nwamini is 21-year-old, however, an investigation by Metropolitan Police claimed he is 15 years old.

Ekweremadu and his wife, Beatrice Nwanneka Ekweremadu, were arrested and detained in the United Kingdom for allegedly trafficking Nwamini for harvesting organ for their ailing child suffering from kidney failure.

They were arraigned before Uxbridge Magistrates’ Court but denied bail.

Ekweremadu had written the United Kingdom High Commission ahead of the visit and backed Nwamini’s visa application on the claim that he was coming to the United Kingdom for medical investigation in regard to an organ transplant.

However, it appeared that the boy was inappropriate to be a donor on the account that he claimed that he was 15 and was trafficked to the United Kingdom by the Ekweremadus.

However, evidence now available through his travelling passport has shown that Nwamini is actually 21, having been born on October 12, 2000.

The revelation of his age as 21 is expected to bring succour to the politician and his family held by the Metropolitan Police in the UK.

Alleged organ trafficking: Victim resides in Lagos with elder brother — Source

Read Time:2 Minute, 3 Second

A businessman and laptop engineer, Oyekan Tobi, has revealed that David Ukpo Nwanmini who was taken to the United Kingdom for organ harvesting by the former deputy senate president, Ike Ekweremadu, and his wife is not a 15-year-old boy.

Tobi, who is also a postgraduate student of the Nigeria Institute of Journalism, Ogba Lagos, spoke to a Vanguard correspondent after the passport of the allegedly 15years boy surfaced online.

According to him, the boy on the passport with the name David is from Ebonyi state and assists his elder brother, Linus (also known as) Mile 2 in the market with customers.

“His elder brother deals in phone accessories, it is false to say the boy is 15 years old because a boy of 15 years won’t have that energy to be dragging customers in the market with other boys. He’s not a boy you can slap on the way and walk away easily. Hence, he should be in his 20s,” he said.

When asked when last he saw David in the Ikotun market of Lagos state, Tobi said it has been a while since they stopped seeing him among his two brothers in the market.

According to him, they sell phone accessories with wheelbarrows along with with the Ikotun market. Their elder brother, Linus was once involved in the selling of accessories with wheelbarrows and after a while, he stopped and upgraded to using a shop to sell these accessories. He then brought his three brothers, of which David is one of them to take over the wheelbarrow business of selling phone accessories, he said.

On Thursday, the Metropolitan police announced that Ekweremadu and his wife were charged to court over the allegation of bringing a child with the name David Ukpo Nwanmini to the UK for organ harvesting.

The police added that the investigation was launched after detectives were alerted to potential offenses under modern slavery legislation in May 2022.

Mr. Ekweremadu, who was recently made a visiting professor at the University of Lincoln, served three terms as deputy president of the Senate, from 2007 to 2019. A member of the opposition People’s Democratic Party (PDP), he has been a senator since 2003.

An investigation by the Metropolitan Police’s Specialist Crime Team took place after detectives were alerted to potential modern-day slavery offenses. Organ harvesting involves removing parts of the body, often for commercial gain and against the will of the victim

Wike & The Sin Of Hypocrisy

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 0 Second
Before, during and after the 2015 general elections, one of the loudest political sermons on the lips of the present governor of Rivers State, Chief Barrister Nyesom Ezebunwo Wike, was how the former governor, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi, used River’s money to fund the election campaign of a ‘Hausa man’ – President Muhammadu Buhari and a ‘Northern/Muslim Party’ – APC, blah blah blah.
Today, the story has changed.
As I write this piece, Governor Wike, like a man on 360° wheels, has made a sharp deviation from his well-documented antagonism, not only against northern politics and her politicians but also against the Islamic faith, which he indirectly demonized by christening Rivers as a purely ‘Christian State’.
Who would ever have thought that a puritan like Governor Wike, along with his holy guests, could succumb to the Arabian floor culture, whilst religiously observing the Islamic festival of Sallah with hard-core Muslims in the North (Sokoto State)??
People of God, please next time a man like Wike attempts to play politics with religion in your face, don’t hesitate for a second to walk past him with the speed of light and focus your gaze directly on heaven; hypocrisy is a sin!

Fani-Kayode and ex-wife, Precious Chikwendu reunite again

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 58 Second
This was a truly surreal and historical moment.
For the first time in two years, totally unexpectedly and out of the blue, and after she took our sons Aragorn, Ragnar, Aiden and Liam out for yet another beautiful outing, Mama Aragorn came to the house to visit with us.
For two years she and I had not seen or spoken to one another, but on Saturday afternoon we spent no less than four hours together in which we talked, laughed and shared some beautiful moments.
It was touching to see members of my household and staff receive her and, led by our first son Aragorn who held her tightly by the hand, usher her through the gates and into the compound as I watched in utter disbelief and surprise from the balcony.
Moments earlier, I had seen them walking down from the top of the road through the CCTV cameras and from the same balcony.
It was a small crowd, led by Aragorn and his mother. They walked slowly with radiant smiles and laughter, whilst a convoy of cars followed them from behind.
It was the dramatic return of a great and beautiful queen who was simply resplendent and who shone as brightly as the morning star.
There are some moments that words cannot capture or express, and this was one of them.
After two long years of contentious silence and acrimonious separation, she graced us with her presence and came home.
It was joy all around to see the return of this great lioness.
Every single one of the 60 people that live and work in our home was happy to see her, and some even shed a few secret tears of joy.
Mama Aragorn displayed such courage, grace, dignity & class.
This was a moment that I shall cherish for many years.
This was a triumph for all lovers of peace and sons and daughters of righteousness.
This was the day that the power of God was made manifest, that joy came to Zuma close and that the Lion of Aso Drive roared in glory, victory, power and strength.
This was a moment that proved beyond all reasonable doubt that patience, restraint, understanding and peace bring nothing but joy and blessings.
This was a moment when light overcame darkness & that the secret prayers of four handsome little Princes were answered.
This was a moment when love, mutual respect, truth and mutual forgiveness triumphed and Satan was put to shame.
Thanks for coming Mama, Aragorn.
We love and appreciate you.
Always did, always will.
And though we have gone our separate ways the bond and cord that exists between us through our four beautiful boys can never be broken.
I also offer my thanks to my loyal and faithful wife and a true Daughter of Zion Mama Remi and to Mama Folake, Nerita, my beautiful daughters Folake and Remi, my son Nicholas and my entire family and household for their collective and unconditional love, understanding, resilience, loyalty, support and patience.
You stood firm, strong and bold and you kept encouraging me even through the raging storm and darkest moments.
Love conquered all and saw us through and so it shall continue to be.
From generation to generation our circle of love, our fellowship, our family, our children and our loved ones shall rise and go from strength to strength.
In every situation and circumstance, we shall prevail and the God that we serve shall never forsake us.
So it is and so it shall be.
God bless you all.

Oil Slides on Fresh Worries about US Rate Hike

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 26 Second

Oil prices dropped nearly $2 a barrel on Thursday as fresh worries emerged that the interest rate hikes in the United States would slow economic growth.

Brent crude futures settled at $110.05 a barrel after falling by $1.69 or 1.5 per cent and the U.S. West Texas Intermediate (WTI) crude futures settled at $104.27 a barrel after it dropped $1.92 or 1.8 per cent.

After another round of remarks from Federal Reserve Chair, Mr Jerome Powell, the market was thrown into a fresh bout of worries.

Mr Powell said the Fed’s focus on curbing inflation was “unconditional” and the labour market was unsustainably strong, comments that stoked fears of more rate hikes.

The market has been jittery since the US Federal Reserve raised its key interest rate by 0.75 per cent, the biggest hike since 1994. This was followed by top economies like the United Kingdom and Switzerland, thus feeding worries about global economic growth.

The most recent estimates by the American Petroleum Institute, according to market sources, showed US crude and gasoline inventories rising last week and this weighed on prices.

Official weekly estimates for US oil inventories were scheduled to be released on Thursday but technical problems will delay those figures until next week, the US Energy Information Administration (EIA) said, without giving a specific timeline.

With much of the market’s focus on the US, President Joe Biden asked Congress on Wednesday to lift the federal fuel tax for three months in a bid to reduce excessively high prices at the pump.

However, there is evidence to support that the bid may not happen as it met scrutiny from lawmakers including those from the President’s own party.

In a four-point plan, Mr Biden told legislators to consider suspending the $0.24 federal tax per gallon of diesel and the $0.18 per gallon tax on petroleum (called gasoline) for 90 days and recommended that states also lift their state taxes on fuels.

The President also called on oil companies to use their profits to boost refining capacity and on fuel retailers to pass on the reduction in prices resulting from the potential lifting of federal taxes to customers.

US oil producers have been reluctant to boost production, prioritizing instead the return of cash to shareholders.

On the supply end of the market, the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) and allied producing countries including Russia will likely stick to a plan for accelerated output increases in August in hopes of easing crude prices and inflation.

The group known as OPEC+ agreed at its last meeting on June 2 to boost output by 648,000 barrels a day in July, or 7 per cent of global demand, and by the same amount in August, up from the initial plan to add 432,000 barrels per day a month over three months until September.

Buhari is unsuccessful in his Supreme Court appeal of the Electoral Act.

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 49 Second

The Supreme Court has struck out a suit filed by President Muhammadu Buhari and the Attorney General of the Federation (AGF), Mr Abubakar Malami, challenging Section 84(12) of the Electoral Act.

On Friday, the case was expunged on the grounds that it lacks the jurisdiction to entertain it and is an abuse of the court process.

A notice for the judgment delivery was served on President Buhari and the National Assembly on Thursday, inviting them to appear before the court today for the judgment.

The President and the Minister of Justice had filed a suit at the Supreme Court, seeking an interpretation of the controversial clause in the Electoral Amendment Act 2022.

In the suit filed on April 29, President Buhari and Mr Malami, who are the plaintiffs, listed the National Assembly as the sole defendant.

There have been several debates regarding Section 84 (12) of the amended Electoral Act 2022 which was assented to in February.

Upon assenting to the act, President Buhari had asked the National Assembly to delete the contended clause, however, the parliament declined the president’s request.

Section 84 (12) of the legislation holds that “no political appointee at any level shall be a voting delegate or be voted for at the convention or congress of any political party for the purpose of the nomination of candidates for any election.”

In their suit marked SC/CV/504/2022 and filed on April 29, 2022, President Buhari and Mr Malami sought an order of the apex court to strike out the section of the Electoral Act, which they argue was inconsistent with the nation’s constitution.

According to the court document, the plaintiffs contend that the Section 84(12) of the Electoral (Amendment) Act, 2022 is inconsistent with the provisions of sections 42, 65, 66, 106, 107, 131, 137, 147, 151, 177, 182, 192 and 196 of the Constitution of Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended), as well Article 2 of the African Charter on Human and People and Peoples Rights.

The plaintiffs further contended that the constitution already makes provisions for qualification and disqualification for the offices of the President and Vice President, Governor and Deputy Governor, Senate and House of Representatives, House of Assembly, Ministers, Commissioners, and Special Advisers.

They urged the Supreme Court to make: “A declaration that the joint and or combined reading of section 65, 66, 106, 107, 131, 137, 147, 151, 177, 182, 192 and 196 of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999, (as amended), the provision of Section 84 (12) of the Electoral Act, 2022 which also ignores Section 84(3) of the same Act, is an additional qualifying and/or disqualifying factors for the National Assembly, House of Assembly, Gubernatorial and Presidential elections as enshrined in the said constitution, hence unconstitutional, unlawful, null and void”.

However, in its decision on Friday, the Supreme Court held that President Buhari, having assented to the bill on February 25 2022, cannot turn around to challenge the same act.

In a unanimous judgement delivered by Justice Emmanuel Agim, the court said allowing the suit to have its way will amount to approbating and reprobating at the same time and no court of law shall allow that.

The apex court unanimously agreed that President Buhari lacked the jurisdiction to bring the suit before it because of the nature of the reliefs sought.

Ukpo Nwamini, age 21, After the organ donation plan failed owing to a mismatch, David wished to apply for asylum to stay in the UK.

0 0
Read Time:45 Second

1. Ike Ekweremadu didn’t engage in any organ trafficking, to start with.

2. He needs a transplant for his daughter.

3. Travel arrangements were planned after seeing a willing donor in Nigeria.

4. Ike Ekweremadu did convey the matter in writing to the British High Commission in December last year.

5. The patient and the donor both travelled to the UK.

6. Contrary to what many people are claiming, the donor is a man, age 21. She is not a girl or a minor.

7. As it turned out, the organ did not even match.

8. Not wanting to return to Nigeria, the donor went to report that he was trafficked to London for possible organ harvest, believing the same would guarantee him asylum.

9. The two have now been called for an investigation into the matter.

Reno Omokri: “Ekweremadu’s followers crucified him, and Abba Kyari’s stood by him.”

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 25 Second

A former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has reacted to the arrest of two Nigerians, Ike Ekweremadu and Beatrice in the United Kingdom, the UK over alleged organ harvesting.

Reno lamented that as bad as former Deputy Commissioner of Police, Abba Kyari is, his people are staying by him until he is proven guilty while Ekweremadu’s own people are the ones already condemning him.

Stating further that in the US, Trump’s people stayed loyal to him, no matter the charge. An accusation is not a conviction.

Metropolitan Police had said the couple was charged with conspiracy to facilitate the travel of another person for organ harvesting.

The couple appeared before the Uxbridge Magistrate Court on Thursday afternoon and were denied bail

Reacting to this on Instagram, Reno wrote, “As bad as Abba Kyari is, his people are staying by him until he is proven guilty. In the US, Trump’s people stayed loyal to him, no matter the charge. An accusation is not a conviction. I feel sorry for this red cap chief.

“His own people are the ones already condemning him! The man could be innocent or guilty. We don’t know. A trial will determine his guilt. But what saddens me is the way and manner how own people are leading the charge to crucify him.

“His own people have totally forgotten the development he attracted to his area and are acting like he has already been convicted. I doubt he will be convicted. There must be an explanation. The man is not a pauper. But I feel sad how he is treated as an orphan.

Video: Mr. Peter Obi(Con)’s Philosophy of Public Service Is Quintessentially Cerebral

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 9 Second

Even if the rest of Nigeria gangs up and stops him (which will be a plus and a further justification for Igbo nationalism and the wider Biafran project), the reality is that Mr Peter Obi’s (CON)’s practical economic management/management economics model both at micro and macro levels is a unique one that is driven home to all.

Furthermore, it not only transcends culture, religion or political view/inclination/affiliation but also a template(if implemented) that the developing world/developing economies need; and in fact, for humanity to learn and consolidate on.

Conversely, this practical economic management activism approach of his for the revival of dashed hopes is one for which an institution is ripe and befitting. His is an economic movement for generations and must not be allowed to die.

The enthusiasm, the zeal, the resilience, and the seemingly insatiable desire of the youths across the board for societal change and better living standards must are unprecedented and should be sustained.
Finally, Mr. Obi(CON), you must more importantly begin to look inwards—–going closer home to help develop our land if they succeed in their gang-up because the conspiracy is swelling. The same goes to other politicians of Biafra extraction serving Nigeria.
