2023: Ali Ndume, a Rare Blend of Pure Leadership Recipe to Unlocking the Presidency ~ Eze

Amaechi’s Presidency, Nigeria Will Make Giant Strides to the Pride of Citizens.

A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress and erstwhile National Publicity Secretary of the defunct New People’s Democratic Party (nPDP), Chief Eze Chukwumeka Eze, has said the emergence of Senator Ali Ndume, as the Presidential Campaign Director of the Minister of Transportation, Rt. Hon. Chibuike Amaechi is the product of a tactical political engineering and an obvious pace-setter in the race for 2023.

In a statement made available to media houses in the country’s capital, Chief Eze said that given his resilience, foresight, doggedness and other distinguishing characteristics exhibited towards the Amaechi project, the Federal Lawmaker clearly represents a comprehensive blend of pure leadership recipe for success in every assigned project.

The party Chief emphasized that Ndume’s emergence was a pacesetter and after his appointment as Amaechi’s Campaign Chief, others gunning for the Presidency started shopping for and appointing people to lead their teams and that clearly points to the fact that the Minister of Transportation, Chibuike Amaechi is well kitted and very much prepared for the task.

Eze said the result of feelers from the Consultative Tours and other strategic engagements of the Minister and his team directed by Sen. Ndume, has shown that the Borno South Senator is versed in the business of politics and has got the right keys needed to unlock the path to Aso Rock and solve the development puzzle of Nigeria.

Ndume, the Gwoza-born senate Committee Chair on Army is schooled in political battles and victories is very conversant with the politics of Nigeria and has shown patriotic credentials especially when he pointedly told the Senate President, Lawan that it will be unjust for him or another Northerner to think of contesting the 2023 general elections as a President. Such a statement can only be credited to a bold, egalitarian and patriotic leader.

Recounting what the Northern region stands to benefit from Amaechi’s Presidency, Senator Ali Ndume, told his people that the Northern region of Nigeria has more to gain from a Southern Presidency, which he described as “inevitable”.

Featuring as a guest on Channels Television’s programme, ‘Politics Today’, Ndume, who is a former leader of the Northern Caucus of the All Progressives Congress, insisted that the ruling party must zone its 2023 Presidency to the Southern region comprising the South-West, South-East and South-South geopolitical zones.

Eze quoted Ndume as saying, “I am a Nigerian, I am from the north and I believe in justice, equity and fairness. What Akeredolu said is my advice to the party. Even if they delayed it a bit, it doesn’t change the position; it is an inevitable one because the national chairman, in principle, not in writing was agreed from the north after the south has been the chairman. And as you can see, nobody contested the chairmanship of the APC from the south.

“In 2015, when it was also agreed in principle that the presidency should come from the north, nobody from the South-West, South-South went into the contest. It’s not because there were no capable hands here but (it was) based on this principle. So, this time around, I don’t think that should change.

“The principle of federal character is a constitutional matter. In fact, federal character is more encompassing than zoning; you zone based on federal character.

“If APC zones it and it should zone it to the south, then other parties can zone it to wherever they want and it is Nigerians that would choose whoever they want.

“Personally, I feel we will be better of with a President coming from the South. The current President comes from the North and if you look at it analytically, the South benefited more. So, if the President comes from the South, we (the North) will benefit more, just as we did previously under (then President Goodluck) Jonathan.”

Senator Ndume knowing the lean purse of Amaechi singlehandedly mobilised friends and associates to raise funds for the procurement of the APC Presidential Nomination form, this again singles him out as a man demonstrating leadership.

In all the visits both to the Obas, Traditional Rulers, Delegates, Opinion leaders, and Stakeholders, Eze said it has been encomiums on Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi and approvals for his Nigerian project for 2023.

Eze expressed happiness that with the drafting of the former Chief of Army Staff, Tukur Brutal, Senator Nurudeen Obateem, Hon Nasiru Ajanah, Mr. Suliman the former IGP and other great strategists lik Dr Dakuku Peterside, Senator Andrew Uchendu, Prince Tonye Princewill, Hon. Aso Wenah to help Senator Aliyu Ndume in this onerous task coupled with gh massive goodwill and supports pledged by the party leadership in over 30 States he has visited so far the road to Aso Rock seems to be clearer and better on daily basis.

Eze wept for joy after reading from The Governor of Nasarawa State, Abdullahi Sule. Read what this foresighted leader said when Amaechi visited his State, “Amaechi, your boss, your friend, the man you love President Muhammadu Buhari, has the final say. This is the man we all respect and believe in, where he goes is where we go. No governor can do otherwise,”

But listen to his further revelation: “But more than you can sell yourself, the team that is following you is intimidating. The team is a selling point. My dear brother, General Yusuf Buratai, is not one that follows people around. I know he must have heard something that l don’t know. His excellency, Amb. Yusuf Tugar is not known to follow people just like that. I’m ready to follow these your delegates.”

For the avoidance of doubt, Eze postulated that with the results so far gotten out of this tout the dream of Nigerians to have a better, agile and well equipped President to restore the dignity of our place in the comity of nations seems to be realizable very soon.

For those who are still in doubt of the prospects of Amaechi in this struggle, let me bring in the encouraging report by a good friend, Mr Michael Jegede in his report containing events of the few weeks of Amaechi’s consultative tour:

“Better placed as the bridge between the young and old generations, the 56-years-old ex-Rivers governor has, within the last two to three weeks, showed great vim, energy and strength as he moved with high speed from Delta to Rivers, Cross River, Edo, Bayelsa, having earlier covered the entire states in the South-West and South-East. His train moved progressively to Kaduna last Sunday from where it headed to Adamawa, Nasarawa, Kano, Jigawa, Bauchi, FCT, Niger, Benue and Plateau between Monday and Thursday.

The acceptability of the Ikwerre-born consummate grassroots politician, a pragmatic and visionary leader, highly respected for his courage, doggedness and strength of character, could be seen from the level of support he is getting from the delegates.

For instance, in Taraba State, convinced that Nigerians will be the ultimate beneficiary of Amaechi’s stewardship, the APC delegates there vowed to give him at least 90 per cent of their votes on the day of the convention.

In Kaduna, the delegates were touched after listening to the testimony of their governor, Nasir El-Rufai, about the character and person of the former Transportation Minister and immediately endorsed him as their preferred choice.

While in Adamawa State where he equally got the assurances of party delegates, the Lamido of Adamawa, Alhaji Muhammadu Barkindo Mustapha, gave Amaechi his blessing and prayed for his emergence as Nigeria’s President in 2023. The monarch believed that with what he did in his eight years as Rivers helmsman, Nigerians will enjoy the true dividends of democratic governance under his leadership as president.

The Chairman, Bayelsa State Council of Traditional Rulers, King Bubaraye Agada the 10th, was highly elated to receive Amaechi in Yenagoa during his visit to the state to interface with delegates.

He said: “We are delighted to have you, you are an aspirant who has come to do the needful.

“You are our son, I have never seen a resume or profile of your type being two-time Speaker, two-time Governor and two-time Minister; we must give you the needed support.”

Governor Muhammad Badaru of Jigawa State, likewise an APC presidential aspirant, tacitly stepped down for Amaechi when he visited the state to engage the delegates.

According to Badaru, “One thing I respect about my big brother and friend (Amaechi) is that what you see is what you get. He doesn’t lie; he doesn’t pretend. He says it straight, and that’s the quality of leaders this country needs.

“So Jigawa delegates, when you think of me, think of Amaechi because we are the children of President Buhari, so on that day, it’s either I run or he runs, but for sure, I cannot run against him.”

In Plateau, the delegates in accord with their governor, Simon Lalong, unanimously adopted Amaechi, as their sole candidate, while revealing that he was the first APC presidential aspirant to visit the state ahead of the convention.

The story is the same from state to state. The majority of the delegates are at home with Amaechi and determined to gladly give him their votes at the forthcoming APC convention. They are of the notion that the vast experience he has garnered in governance, having been privileged to have consistently remained in the corridors of power since 1999, will stand him in good stead to perform as the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria. Like many other well-meaning Nigerians, the delegates see Amaechi as the most qualified, competent and suitable candidate for the Presidency among those aspiring to succeed President Muhammadu Buhari in 2023″.

Eze finally highlighted that he is full of hope that Senator Ndume and his Team will surely deliver accordingly coupled with the feats of Amaechi during his period as Governor of Rivers State and now Minister of Decade, Nigeria is sure to witness a rapid turnaround in all spheres under an Amaechi presidency.

Amaechi has demonstrated that he is a visionary leader and has outlined his key plans for the country which include eradicating insecurity in Nigeria in all ramification

Biden Says The U.S. Will Defend Taiwan Militarily If China Attacks

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 7 Second

TOKYO — President Joe Biden said Monday that the U.S. would intervene militarily if China were to invade Taiwan, saying the burden to protect Taiwan is “even stronger” after Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. It was one of the most forceful presidential statements in support of Taiwan in decades.

Biden, at a news conference in Tokyo, said “yes” when asked if he was willing to get involved militarily to defend Taiwan if China invaded. “That’s the commitment we made,” he added.

The U.S. traditionally has avoided making such an explicit security guarantee to Taiwan, with which it no longer has a mutual defense treaty, instead maintaining a policy of “strategic ambiguity” about how far it would be willing to go if China invaded. The 1979 Taiwan Relations Act, which has governed U.S. relations with the island, does not require the U.S. to step in militarily to defend Taiwan if China invades, but makes it American policy to ensure Taiwan has the resources to defend itself and to prevent any unilateral change of status in Taiwan by Beijing.

Biden’s comments drew a sharp response from the China, which has claimed Taiwan to be a rogue province.

Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson Wang Wenbin expressed “strong dissatisfaction and resolute opposition” to Biden’s comments. “China has no room for compromise or concessions on issues involving China’s core interests such as sovereignty and territorial integrity.”

He added, “China will take firm action to safeguard its sovereignty and security interests, and we will do what we say.”

A White House official said Biden’s comments did not reflect a policy shift.

Speaking alongside Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida, Biden said any effort by China to use force against Taiwan would “just not be appropriate,” adding that it “will dislocate the entire region and be another action similar to what happened in Ukraine.”

China has stepped up its military provocations against democratic Taiwan in recent years aimed at intimidating it into accepting Beijing’s demands to unify with the communist-ruled mainland.

“They’re already flirting with danger right now by flying so close and all the maneuvers that are undertaken,” Biden said of China.

Under the “one China” policy, the U.S. recognizes Beijing as the government of China and doesn’t have diplomatic relations with Taiwan. However, the U.S. maintains unofficial contacts including a de facto embassy in Taipei, the capital, and supplies military equipment for the island’s defense.

Making an example out of Putin for China

Biden said it is his “expectation” that China would not try to seize Taiwan by force, but he said that assessment “depends upon just how strong the world makes clear that that kind of action is going to result in long-term disapprobation by the rest of the community.”

He added that deterring China from attacking Taiwan was one reason why it’s important that Russian President Vladimir Putin “pay a dear price for his barbarism in Ukraine,” lest China and other nations get the idea that such action is acceptable.

Fearing escalation with nuclear-armed Russia, Biden quickly ruled out putting U.S. forces into direct conflict with Russia, but he has shipped billions of dollars in U.S. military assistance that has helped Ukraine put up a stiffer-than-expected resistance to Russia’s onslaught.

Taipei cheered Biden’s remarks, with Ministry of Foreign Affairs spokesperson Joanne Ou expressing “sincere welcome and gratitude” for the comments.

“The challenge posed by China to the security of the Taiwan Strait has drawn great concern in the international community,” said Ou. “Taiwan will continue to improve its self-defense capabilities, and deepen cooperation with the United States and Japan and other like-minded countries to jointly defend the security of the Taiwan Strait and the rules-based international order, while promoting peace, stability and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region.”

Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) soldiers stand in line after a commemoration in Beijing on November 11, 2016.

It’s not the first time Biden has pledged to defend Taiwan against a Chinese attack, only for administration officials to later claim there had been no change to American policy. In a CNN town hall in October, Biden was asked about using the U.S. military to defend Taiwan and replied, “Yes, we have a commitment to do that.”

Biden’s comments came just before he formally launched a long-anticipated Indo-Pacific trade pact that excludes Taiwan.

White House national security adviser Jake Sullivan confirmed Sunday that Taiwan isn’t among the governments signed up for the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework, which is meant to allow the U.S. to work more closely with key Asian economies on issues like supply chains, digital trade, clean energy and corruption.

Inclusion of Taiwan would have irked China.

Sullivan said the U.S. wants to deepen its economic partnership with Taiwan on a one-to-one basis.

Governor Soludo condemns killing of Anambra lawmaker, places N10 million bounty on killers

Read Time:3 Minute, 14 Second

Charles Chukwuma Soludo

Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, on Saturday, condemned the killing of a lawmaker and his aide in the state.

The victims, Okechukwu Okoye, the lawmaker representing Aguata Constituency 2 in the Anambra State House of Assembly and his campaign director, Cyril Chiegboka, were abducted in Aguata on Sunday.

On Saturday, six days after the kidnap, the lawmaker’s head was dumped at Chisco park in Amichi, a community in Nnewi South Local Government Area of the state and his body was also found in Nnobi, Idemili South Local Government Area of the state.

The police spokesperson in the state, Tochukwu Ikenga, who confirmed this in a statement said his corpse had been recovered and deposited in the mortuary.

Although the fate of the lawmaker’s aide was unknown earlier, Mr Soludo said the gunmen also killed the aide.

The governor, in a statement by his spokesperson, Christian Aburime, expressed “shock and deep sadness” over the killing of the victims, describing it as “heartless and barbaric.”

“Governor Soludo condoles with his kinsmen of Isuofia, noting that it is probably the same criminal gang that attacked him and killed three policemen at Isuofia, two years ago, that are once again on the prowl. But they can never cow down Isuofia and Anambra State,” the spokesperson wrote.

He said the governor has “consequently placed an N10 million reward for anyone or group that will avail valuable information that will lead to the immediate arrest of the perpetrators of this dastardly act.”

Mr Soludo also vowed that those who carried out the act and other criminals operating in the state would be “decisively” brought to book.

“Anambra will soon be a hell for these criminals,” he said.

The governor reiterated his administration’s resolve and renewed determination with the security agencies to track down the criminals in the state to face the full weight of the law.

He assured residents of the state that “Anambra will win against the forces of darkness,” just as he urged them to brace up for a fight against the criminals in the state.

Increased attacks

Security in Nigeria’s South-east has deteriorated in recent times with attacks by armed persons reported almost on a daily basis across the region.

Anambra State has witnessed some of the worst attacks in the region. The attacks often target security agencies, government officials and facilities.

Mr Soludo recently visited Nnamdi Kanu, the leader of the outlawed Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) in detention.

The governor said the visit to the IPOB leader was part of his “wider consultations with critical stakeholders” to ensure lasting peace and security in the Southeast.

During his inauguration as the state governor, Mr Soludo had called for dialogue with the IPOB group and similar groups in the state and region.

The governor, thereafter, announced an amnesty programme for the gunmen and declared an end to the sit-at-home order in the state. But residents have continued to obey the Monday sit-at-home order in the state and across the region, mostly out of fear.

The attacks by the gunmen increased in the state shortly after Mr Soludo’s inauguration and announcement of an end to the sit-at-home order in the state.

The Nigerian government has accused IPOB of being responsible for the deadly attacks in the region. But the group has repeatedly denied any involvement in the attacks.

The separatist group is leading the agitation for an independent state of Biafra to be carved out from the South-east and some parts of South-south Nigeria.

Mr Kanu is currently being detained in Abuja where he is facing trial for treason.

He appeared in court on May 18, in continuation of his trial. He is billed to appear in court again on May 26.

What is the Biafran agitators and Soludo Goverment doing to unmask this killers in Anambra State

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 25 Second

Charles Chukwuma Soludo

The more worrisome thing here about the killing in the South East is that nobody is taking responsibility.  And intelligence is not providing any  Suspicion.

The minders of the IPOB group through their mouthpiece which existed even before Mazi Nnamdi Kanu
was detained by the name Emma powerful have repeatedly denied involvement. Even dissociating themselves from the ‘Sit at home’ – ‘Holy Monday’ order.
Radar shifted to one Finland Based Simon Ekpa, who refers to his new group as Autopilot ….. Mr Ekpa through his recent broadcast also denied the involvement of his group in the killings and has rather diverted attention to some failed or disgruntled politicians.
Since no one has been taking responsibility….the term Unknown gunmen became convenient.  Our concern and worry are, how come no valid and reliable Intelligence has unambiguously identified who the Unknown Gunmen are, both intelligence from the state actors and non-state actors ‘security’ networks?
Only accusing fingers are being pointed here and there, and the Unknown Gunmen are on a rampage. Then IPOB / ESN (Emma powerful group) used to claim they got all deep information about everything and anybody in Nigeria and outside Nigeria and also claim their intentions is to secure Biafra land, what’s happening now? No Intelligence again.
Then we were shown video clips of escapades in the forests against invading Fulani herdsmen, how they were chased away with their cows and all that. What is happening now? Have all the forest invaders, been chased away from the forests now invaded the towns and roads? If so, why have they not been pursued and chased away from the towns as they were chased away from the forests?
We used to have Intelligence from them about Buhari’s plastic ears, Buhari’s death, and Buhari’s body double. How come we can’t have credible Intelligence about the perpetrators and masterminds of these killings in our own Land?
Did these slaughtered people also disobey the sit at home order? Is the IPOB power only for and against the hapless traders, common struggling folks and fellow kinsmen?
Who is this Enemy that has refused to be unmasked, defined and isolated? Even with the strong Intelligence of IPOB/ESN?
Will this situation not provide a true test of the strength, the power, ‘sincerity of purpose’ and ‘needfulness’ of the so-called security outfit and the organization?
What is really happening here?
Also, the Ekpa group claim to have the objectives of defending the Biafra Land….how can you be defending the Land and not defending the lives of the people of the Land?
Is the Biafra Land now more important than Biafra Lives?
What’s going on here ??
It is obvious that criminals have taken over, but what needs to be found out is – which groups do these criminals belong to?
Do they have any affiliation?
Which/ what affiliation is that?
This is no longer an Agitation, this is cheer criminality and wickedness. It is a killing spree!
Serial killers are on the loose.
The Biafra Land is desecrated. And huge atonement would be required. For me what is critical is for the Governor Soludo security team to go underground and first identify who the real murderers are, what is their motive, and who is beating them. The drum for them ??
Then the criminals can be targeted.
Uncommon,  unconventional methods and approaches can be deployed.
Anambra had faced daunting security challenges before, Onitsha was on many occasions very notorious and many times a theatre of crime.
Anambra overcame all of that and was acclaimed the safest state in Nigeria at some point recently.
Boyz Oye ! Happened
Bakassi boyz ! Happened.
Some other movements happened.
Don’t know which will happen this time around.
But something must definitely happen soon….very soon. The blood of the innocent is complaining bitterly to God.
Anambra can’t give up her spirit and is being tested once again.
The dimming light will shine bright again, to dispel this gloomy darkness.
Our governor needs all the support and prayers.
The light must always overcome darkness.
God willing.

UK: NMC to consider accepting employer English language references

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 19 Second

The NMC is considering accepting employer English language references as part of a proposed overhaul of requirements for overseas applicants.

At a meeting on 26 May, the Council will consider approving a consultation on proposed changes to the NMC’s English language requirements, with a view to implementing any resulting changes from October this year.

It plans to consult on three specific changes – the scores it accepts for language tests, whether it can accept evidence of non-registered practice in English supported by an employer reference or other evidence, and whether it can accept non-nursing or midwifery postgraduate qualifications taught and examined in English.

It also plans to consult on whether the English language requirements should be the same for internationally trained nurses, nursing associates and midwives.

The NMC currently accepts three types of English language evidence – recent achievement of the required score in accepted English language tests; completion of a pre-registration nurse, midwife or nursing associate programme that was taught and examined in English, and included clinical interaction in English; and recent practice for one year in a majority English-speaking nation.

However, it said over the last year it has received ‘a considerable amount of critical stakeholder feedback’ to its approach in a listening event with stakeholders in November, a Public Voice Forum in March, and formed an external advisory group to help inform potential changes.

Feedback included that the minimum standard to be achieved in the English language tests is ‘too high’ and that there is a ‘lack of supervised support, or lack of time to access support, to help prepare for English language tests,’ the NMC said.

Other feedback included that, ‘as there is a workforce crisis in health and social care, we should reduce our required test standards and accept alternative evidence,’ said the NMC.

The regulator said that while staffing shortages are ‘important context,’ they are ‘not a determinative factor,’ and ‘it is essentially the requirements set give assurance that applicants have the knowledge of English necessary for safe and effective practice in the UK.’

There has also been ‘an increase in successful appeals by applicants,’ it added.

The NMC summarized: ‘We think there is more we can do to be flexible in the types of evidence we accept, which would still allow us to have confidence that everyone on our register has the necessary knowledge of English.’

The nursing and midwifery regulator last reviewed its requirements in 2019 and accepts ‘there may be a case for change’, proposing to launch an eight-week public consultation in June, with final proposals made to Council in September, in order to implement any changes from October.

‘Whilst we want to ensure the register is accessible, all those on the register must demonstrate they have the necessary knowledge of English to be capable of safe and effective practice,’ the NMC said.

‘We must manage two competing risks. One is that we require evidence that is disproportionately difficult and therefore prevents qualified applicants from joining the register, thus exacerbating the shortage of professionals. The other is that we set our requirements too low and risk allowing applicants onto the register who are not capable of safe and effective practice.’

Gail Adams, Head of Professional Services at Unison, said the union ‘welcomes the NMC review,’ and that ‘it’s long overdue and has not maintained pace with demand.’

She said Unison has seen ‘a significant increase’ in cases being referred to its specialist unit for representation following the rejection of their NMC applications to join the register on the English language requirement. The fact all have been upheld, she said, ‘demonstrates the assessment is not working and is possibly wasting unnecessary time, energy and registrants’ money.

‘We are committed to working with the NMC on this issue, but cannot stress too strongly the urgent need for action.’

The proposal to accept evidence of non-registered practice in English supported by either a reference from the relevant employer or other evidence ‘marks the biggest area of change in terms of current requirements,’ the NMC said, and ‘would provide assistant registrars with further information to consider and could reduce the number of appeals.’

Matthew McClelland, executive director of strategy and insight for the NMC, said: ‘Of all health and care professionals, nurses, midwives and nursing associates spend the most time with patients and people who use services. Effective communication is essential to delivering the safe, effective and kind care that people have a right to expect.

‘We’re grateful to everyone who’s already shared their initial views, which have helped shape the options we’re proposing to consult on. We look forward to hearing more from the public, employers and our professionals to make sure our processes are fair and reliable for everyone.’

APC Press Conference Speech -Senibo Finebone

0 0
Read Time:6 Minute, 6 Second

Senibo Finebone

Full Text of Press Conference By The Rivers State Chapter Of All Progressives Congress, APC, Held On Sunday, May 22, 2022, At The State Secretariat, 118 Woji Road, GRA, Port Harcourt

Gentlemen of the press, It has become expedient to address you as a means of clarifying and updating you with the recent happenings and present state of affairs of our great Party in Rivers State.

It is gratifying to recall that after the last national convention of the APC and the disposal of the very last court case against the party by the courts, our Party Chapter has been on fresh ascendancy and momentum.

So far, we have demonstrated the readiness and willingness to actively participate in the electioneering process which has kicked off with the conduct of delegate congresses.

Recall that due to the compact calendar of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, occasioned by the Electoral Act 2022, our Party shifted its Delegate Congresses twice. Eventually, sale of Forms for the Delegate Congresses was widely advertised and sold between Monday 9th May and 11:00pm on 11th May, 2022 at the State Party Secretariat, 118 Woji Road, Port Harcourt. Subsequently, the collated names of Delegates Aspirants was forwarded to the 319 Wards in readiness for the Congresses.

In line with the directive of APC National Headquarters, a Vetting Committee, headed by the State Legal Adviser, was also set up to vet the documentations of State Assembly Aspirants between 11th and 12th May, 2022. This was given wide publicity in the media prior to and during the exercise.

On 17th May, 2022 the APC Rivers State Congress and Screening Committee led by the Chairman, Dr. Adoyi Omale, arrived the State. The team’s arrival and its schedule for screening State Assembly Aspirants on Wednesday, 18th May, 2022 were widely publicized in the media. On the first day, 61 Aspirants presented themselves for screening while on the second day 28 Aspirants were screened putting the total number of Aspirants screened at 89.

Meanwhile, the Delegate Congresses were done and concluded on Wednesday 18th May, 2022 across the State. The exercise was peaceful and credible as it was witnessed by INEC and security officials in all the Wards.

However, a mention must be made of a particular development that acted as a dampener to our steady march forward. On the morning of Wednesday 18th May, 2022 a group of individuals assembled at the main gate of our Party Secretariat. Their motive was not clear to anyone. With every passing minute their number was growing just as they started becoming violent. By 9am the situation had gone out of control. They had no leader to engage with and the messages on the few placards they carried were incoherent.

Their extremely violent behaviour compelled the policemen at the Party Secretariat to lock up the Secretariat gate. Not long after, they started pushing the gate and later started throwing stones violently into the Secretariat premises with a view to hitting people inside and destroying property. Everything they did had the trappings of what happened in 2018 when a group of Senator Magnus Abe’s followers besieged, broke in, looted and later destroyed the former Party Secretariat at Forces Avenue, Old GRA, Port Harcourt. Before our eyes last Wednesday, history was about repeating itself perhaps because when the 2018 incident happened, the perpetrators went scot free with no consequences.

This time, the total breakdown of law and order necessitated calls for police reinforcement to avert danger and a repeat of the destruction of 2018 from recurring.

It took a long while before police personnel arrived and started to task of persuading the mob to disperse to no avail. They appeared hell bent on accomplishing their objective. However, after over an hour of engagement, the police were compelled to apply minimum force and successfully dispersed them.

It is pertinent to state that we believe the police account of the incident especially the fact that no life was lost. The real danger was the extremely violent way the mob attacked and bludgeoned anyone they identified to be our Party member. For example, an electrician who had come to fix some electrical fittings in the Secretariat was mistaken for our Party member and attacked and was almost killed before he managed to escape to an arriving police team. Another member was terribly beaten and his money, shoes and phones taken by the mob. All these actions point to the kind of looting and destruction the mob intended to unleash on the Secretariat were they allowed, just like in 2018. They were buoyed perhaps that they carried out the act in 2018 and got away with it without any consequences of any kind.

Sadly those who sent the mob were busy using various media platforms to control the narrative of the events and skewing it to paint themselves (the perpetrators of the evil act) as victims. They went as far as acting up that someone was shot dead. We believe the police account that no one died despite that the patience of the police was stretched to its elastic limit by the violent conduct of the mob. The sponsors of the mob are still flying the narrative that Congresses did not take place but much of the world now know that that is not the case. They thought their mob would succeed in preventing the conduct of the Congresses much to their satisfaction. But their plot failed!

Reflecting deeply on the incident, we have come to the conclusion that the mob was deliberately assembled and sent to block the Party gate as early as 6am to ensure that materials for the congresses were not sent to the 319 Wards for the congresses. Unknown to them, there was no such materials to be moved to the wards apart from a small slip for recording results in each ward. All returning officers had earlier collected the slips from the Committee and left for the various wards even as the mob continued to block the Party Secretariat gate. The Congresses were conducted on the Option A4 mode whereby members queued up, were counted and the result recorded on the small slip. Much to the disappointment of the mob and their sponsors, the Ward and LGA Congresses took place peacefully and transparently across the State fully observed by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, and security officials.

Despite the unfortunate incident of Wednesday, we believe that our march towards participating in the next stage of the electioneering calendar, which is the Primaries, will proceed apace without let. We hope to ultimately build on this momentum to achieve our overall objective of winning the 2023 elections, be it the State Assembly, House of Representatives, Senate, Governorship and Presidential elections.

Returning Officers and Electoral Officers of 22 LGA’s completed and submitted the results of congresses they conducted. The only LGA that didn’t present any result was Asari Toru where unconfirmed reports claim the EO was hijacked at gunpoint and forced to declare that no Congress held there. The matter has been presented by the party to INEC Headquarters in Abuja and we are awaiting their directives on what to do next.

Thank you all.
