Senator accuses Buhari of hypocrisy over forex ban

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 24 Second

Senator Ben Murray-Bruce has criticized President Muhammadu Buhari for saying that no foreign exchange will be made available to parents whose children are studying abroad.

Buhari made the comment during a recent interview with Al Jazeera in Qatar despite being questioned on the status of his own children who are also in schools outside the country.

Ben Bruce reacted to the president’s comments via a Facebook post. It reads:

It’s awkward for a leader to say no ‪#‎ForexForEducation for our kids schooling abroad when his own kids school abroad!

Mr. President, these are people who voted for you. You ought to be more sensitive about their need for #ForexForEducation.

This year all tiers of govt, including the Presidency, will spend billions importing cars. If we can afford that, cant we afford #ForexForEducation

What do we expect parents whose kids have spent 2 years in schools abroad. Should their kids drop out after going so far? #ForexForEducation

Its not a matter of “those who can afford it”. The parents aren’t saying they cant afford it. They’re saying they cant get #ForexForEducation.

I am an advocate for ‪#‎BuyNaijaToGrowTheNaira but I accept that there are some courses that we don’t offer #ForexForEducation

If we can provide foreign exchange to those going on pilgrimage, surely we can provide #ForexForEducation. Education is a priority!

These policies will have the opposite effect of what you intend. Nigerians will take their funds to neighboring nations #ForexForEducation

We as elected representatives of the people must be sensitive to their needs and reflect this sensitivity in policies #ForexForEducation

My name is Ben Murray-Bruce and I just want to make Commonsense!

It was discovered during police investigation that the second accused, Ahangba, had informed Ajom that his girlfriend was with another man, and following the information, Ajom had come at night with a gallon of petrol and lighter and set fire to the house in which  his girlfriend and another man were, killing both of them.

When the case came up, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction as prosecution told the court that investigation was still on and asked for another date.

The Chief Magistrate, Mrs. Theresa Wergba, therefore ordered the accused to be remanded at the Federal Prisons, Makurdi, and adjourned the case to March 7.

FG slams oil firms with N2trn lawsuit over alleged oil fraud

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 26 Second

The federal government has reportedly filed lawsuits against multinational oil corporations – Shell, Chevron, Agip and other major oil companies for failing remit N2 trillion crude oil revenue.

The revenue not declared between 2011 and 2014, according to Ynaija, runs into over 57 million barrels of crude oil shipments.

As contained in the lawsuits, which were filed on Thursday, March 3, at a Federal High Court in Lagos, the decline in crude oil revenue recorded in 2014 “necessitated an intelligence based gathering of data, which showed that part of the reasons for the decline in the revenue from crude oil exploration was the refusal to declare and/or under-declaration of crude oil shipments”.

The suit stated that “the crude oil declared to have been exported from Nigeria, was less than what was declared to have been imported into the United States using the same shipment by the same vessel on the same bill of lading’.

In carrying out the shady deals, Agip Oil allegedly used two vessels while namely “Value” and “Cosmic”, while Chevron allegedly used three vessels; “Triathlo”, “Poetic Olympic Future” and “Olympic Flag”.

The oil companies are being accused of  illegally shipping 57 million barrels of crude oil, and selling to buyers in the United States alone, between January 2011- December 2014.

Representing the federal government in the civil actions against the firms are  Professor Fabian Ajogwu (SAN), Selekeowei Larry (SAN), Wilson Ajuwa and Audu Anuga, the report said.

The government is seeking the court to compel the companies to remit $51,033,180, $462, 681,780, and $145, 848, 551 being the value of the missing payments.

It was gathered that the case has not been assigned to any Judge.
