The management of Kano Pillars Football Club has fired 10 of its players ahead of the 2015/2016 Glo Premier League season. Idris Malikawa, Media Officer of the club made this known in an interview with newsmen on Tuesday in Kano.

Malikawa said the 10 players were sacked based on medical ground and poor performance. “The management of the club felt the only way to make headway in the plan to have a good season in the NPFL is to weed out 10 aged and unproductive players.

“This is to make way for new boys that will strengthen the team,’’ Malikawa said. The media officer disclosed that the club would recruit new players “to beef up the team in some critical areas.’’

He said the team had already resumed training ahead of this year’s campaign, assuring that the transfer formalities would be completed on time.

Davido’s babymama drama: We shall soon know the king of cannabis — Dele Momodu

Read Time:1 Minute, 51 Second

It seems the babymama drama involving 23-year-old pop artiste, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido and 28-year-old Sophia Momodu, the niece of popular publisher, Dele Momodu, will not end soon.

In what look to be an indirect response to the allegation by Davido that Sophia infected their daughter, Imade with Cannabis; Dele Momodu threatened that Nigerians will soon know the king of cannabis when the case is fully disclosed.

The veteran journalist disclosed this in a tweet, hinting that he is not fighting anyone but oppression of his niece by the rich and powerful.

Davido and Sophia

“Good morning Africa! Thanks to all the journalists calling to ask my side of the raging story but I can’t talk because lawyers are involved”.

“It is also pertinent to establish the rule of law rather than brigandage but we shall soon know the king of cannabis in Nigeria!”

“The rich and powerful always think they can get away with anything but under a CHANGE government we shall test the laws protecting the weak!,” Momodu posted on Twitter.

On Sunday, Davido rebuffed claims by his estranged lover, Sophia Momodu on the circumstances surrounding the removal of their daughter, Imade, from Sophia’s custody.

In a lengthy narrative issued, Adeleke alleged that Sophia had been in weekly contact with Imade up till last week and claimed that hospital authorities had sought to transfer the baby to officials of the Lagos State Children Welfare Authority on account of alleged drug use by Sophia.

Adeleke in his narrative said the hospital authorities recanted only after Sophia agreed to surrender the baby for care with him, saying his estranged lover had kept to the agreement until she recanted last week as she insisted on going along with the Adeleke family for the treatment and family vacation in Dubai.

Adeleke in the narrative poured invectives on the respected veteran journalist, Dele Momodu, who he accused of not taking care of his niece, Sophia, alleging that Mr. Momodu and his wife entered the scene as busybodies who he claimed did not bother about the welfare of their niece until she had a baby for him.

President Buhari’s Media chat and the words of tyrant — Fani-Kayode

0 0
Read Time:9 Minute, 30 Second

Mr. President, you will recall that I wrote you an open letter on December 28th, 2015 which I sincerely hope that you found most gratifying, illuminating and helpful. That was two days before your Presidential media chat which took place on December 30th. I hereby humbly crave your indulgence to add an addendum to that open letter. That is what this contribution represents.

I hope and pray that this second letter, which will be the last, will further enlighten you and impart a little more wise counsel to you that will result in assisting you to properly appreciate the complexities of our times.

Mr. President it is pertinent to note that approximately two hundred and sixty five years ago one of the founding fathers of the United States of America, Mr. Benjamin Franklin, said “rebellion to tyrants is obedience to God”. I am sure that you will agree with me when I say that he was absolutely right.

Just in case you do not know who Benjamin Franklin was permit me to point out the fact that he is a man that is reverred by the American people and much of the civilised world up until today and he is the individual whose face appears on the one hundred U.S. dollar bills that are used till today.

He was a great statesman, diplomat, politician and intellectual and most important of all he was a deeply courageous man who was motivated by his deepest convictions and his christian values and who was prepared to risk life and liberty and stand up to tyranny.

I guess most Nigerian leaders have much to learn from him especially at times like this. Yet thankfully all is not lost and at least a few of our politicians are beginning to find their voice and speak out against the evil in the land. Permit me to share one example with you.

A few days ago Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary of our great party the PDP, exposed the fact that there was an orchestrated attempt by your government to intimidate, silence and utterly decimate and crush the opposition.

In open defiance to what can best be described as this insidious and sinister agenda he told the world that ”President Buhari is not God and we will not worship him”. Whether he knows it or not Metuh has not only spoken for the PDP but also for the overwhelming majority of the Nigerian people.

Permit me to add the following words to his timely contribution. Woe unto those that tremble before men of power and that worship false gods. Destruction and perdition awaits those who bow before Baal, who exalt the servants of Belial, who kiss the ring of the Baphomet, who say ”Buhari is God” and who crawl at the feet of the Lord of the Flies.

Mr. President the point is simple and clear: you are not God and even though we respect your office we will never bow before you, we will never worship you, we will not relent in our efforts to oppose you and, regardless of your constant threats and wicked intentions, we have absolutely no fear of you.

This is because our fate and destiny and the future of our beloved country lies in the hands of the Living God and not in the hands of any misguided and tyrannical dictator. Injustice, persecution and tyranny last only for a season.

Fani- Kayode and General Muhammadu Buhari (retd)

At the appointed time the Lord will step in and He will deliver and vindicate the falsely accused and the righteous captive. He will also avenge the spilling of innocent blood and He will fight the cause of the martyrs.

With this in mind and regardless of the dangerous counsel of the hardliners and extremists that surround you, I urge you to please take note of the following: Sheik Ibrahim El Zakzaky, Colonel Sambo Dasuki and Mr. Nnamdi Kanu, who are all political prisoners, must NOT die under mysterious circumstances whilst they are in your custody.

No matter what your advisers and those in your inner circle tell you if, God forbid, this were to happen the fall-out and consequences for your reputation and your administration would be too much to bear.

This brings me to another issue which is a cause for grave concern. Your stated resolve not to obey court orders and to deny Nigerians their right to bail after the courts have given it to them is not only an affront and gratuitous insult to the Judiciary but it is also a violation of the constitution.

I say this because, unlike military dictatorships, democracy enjoys and derives its power and legitimacy from the inviolable and sacred principle of ”separation of powers”.

What this means is that the Executive arm of Government, which by the grace of God you head today, is distinct and separate from the Legislature and the Judiciary.

As head of the Executive and President of the Federal Republic, you have absolutely no power or right to interfere in the processes of the Legislature (which is the National Assembly) or the Judiciary. Both have their own rules, regulations and leadership and the constitution guides them and guarantees them total and complete independence from you.

As a matter of fact they are charged by the laws of our land and the constitution to act as a check and balance on you as President and to ensure that you do not abuse your power or subject your people to tyranny.

Mr. President I watched you on your media chat the other day and I am constrained to tell you that you not only abused your power but that you also crossed the line with some of the things that you said. For example you have no right to tell the courts how to administer justice and who and who not to grant bail. Again you have no business to tell the legislature which laws to pass and how to run their affairs.

Again you have no right and neither do you have the power to pronounce any Nigerian citizen guilty of any crime unless and until a duly constituted court of law has done so. You cannot be the prosecutor, judge and jury in any criminal proceeding and this is especially so when you initiated those proceedings and you are the accuser.

To attempt to do so is not only unacceptable and irresponsible but it is also heartless and unkind. The fact that most of our senior and respected lawyers have refused to tell you this simply because they are scared of you or because they are looking for patronage from your government does not mean that what you are doing is lawful or acceptable. What you are doing is morally and legally reprehensible and it is unacceptable in any democratic and civilized society.

In the same vein you have no right to try to stop members of the opposition or the general public from criticizing you or condemning your obvious failings. Mr. President criticism, opposition and dissent are the lifeblood of democracy and without accommodating and tolerating them you cannot claim to be a democrat.

You have no right to attempt to cower or intimidate the fourth estate of the realm, which is the media, or attempt to pervert and corrupt the Nigerian public with daily doses of lies, falsehood, deceit and propaganda which is being duly and dutifully administered by your Minister of Information and your numerous media aides.

All these things give me and millions of your other subjects concern yet it doesn’t stop there. Perhaps the most disturbing example of your sheer insensitivity was your reaction to the question about Igbo marginalization during the media chat. In response to that question you asked “who is marginalizing who” and went further to ask “what do the Igbo want?”

Mr. President I wish to remind you that it is an incontrovertible fact that in just seven months your government has succeeded in marginalizing the Igbo more than any other Federal Government in living memory and certainly since the civil war.

This is a record that you ought not to be proud of. What the Igbo want is fairness, equal rights, equal representation, equity and respect. They also believe that they have the right to determine their own future and make their own choices.

Mr. President I do not believe that this is too much for them to ask given the fact that they have contributed, perhaps more than most, to national development and integration in the last forty five years?

It is not too much to ask given the fact that no less than three million of their people, including one million innocent children, were slaughtered during our civil war in the name of keeping Nigeria one?

I have no doubt that you will remember this very well Mr. President given the fact that you were one of those that prosecuted that war and fought in it.

You will also remember the brutal mass murder and the war crimes and crimes against humanity that were perpetrated against the unarmed and defenseless Igbo civilian population of Asaba in 1968 when over one thousand of them were rounded up, taken to the town square and shot to death for no just cause.

The soldiers that carried out that unspeakable act of cowardice, brutality and barbarity were under the command of your professional colleague, the late Head of State, General Murtala Mohammed. Mr. President that was a dark, shameful and ignoble chapter in our history which still cries out for justice and reparations.

Needless to say the pain of such horrendous events and numerous others that the Igbo have been subjected to by the Nigerian state and those that control it over the last fifty five years still haunts them.

The truth is that regardless of the obvious contempt that you have for them the Igbo will continue to insist on justice, fairness and on having their rights respected in our country.

If you refuse to address their numerous and legitimate grievances and you refuse to treat them with the understanding, sensitivity and compassion that they deserve, the agitation for self-determination, secession and the yearning for the establishment of a new nation called Biafra will wax stronger and stronger until it reaches dangerous and irresistible proportions.

That is what you are toying with Mr. President and if that were to happen be rest assured that the Yoruba would take a cue from it and so would the people of the Niger Delta. It would effectively signify the beginning of the balkanisation of Nigeria.

Whether you and those with your world view like to hear it or not, that is the bitter truth. May the Ancient of Days grant you the wisdom, knowledge and understanding to accept it and to do something about it. May the Lord of the Universe give you the foresight and the insight to appreciate the fact that Nigeria cannot survive a second civil war.

Mr. President I sincerely hope that you do not take offence at my admonitions and counsel. I speak only out of concern for the fortunes of your administration, your reputation and out of love for my country. God bless Nigeria.

Femi Fani-Kayode was former Aviation Minister.

Brutalisation: Police hand over irate cadets to NAF

Read Time:1 Minute, 30 Second

Lagos—The Police in Lagos have handed over cadets Peters Solomon and Abdullahi Fahad, who were intercepted by Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State, last Wednesday, while manhandling an artisan, Dahiru Lawal in Ketu area of the state, to authorities of the Nigerian Air Force.

The cadets were alleged to have beaten Lawal to a pulp, for breaking their car windscreen, and locked him up in the trunk of their Chrysler Stratus car when the governor’s convoy showed up.

Consequently, the governor, who was returning from an inspection visit ordered that they (cadets) be handed over to the Police for further investigation and prosecution.

Cadets Solomon and Fahad reportedly spent four days in police custody before they were handed over to authorities of the Nigerian Air Force at the Logistics Command, Ikeja, weekend.

Police sources hinted that while the cadets were in their custody, they claimed to be personnel of the Logistics command.

“We had to contact the command to ascertain if the claim was true. Thereafter, preparation towards their hand over was made. They have been handed over as constitutionally expected”, police sources told Vanguard yesterday.

Also, sources at the Logistics command hinted that the next line of action will be an in-house investigation. Thereafter, a court Marshal would be instituted to try them.

Air Officer Commanding Logistics Command, Air Vice Marshal Muhammed Muhammed, had earlier described the suspects conducts as contrary to the ethics of the NAF.

He said: “The leadership of the Nigerian Air Force will like to make it absolutely clear that the Service does not condone this kind of behaviour. We clearly understand our responsibilities to the public”, he said, adding that appropriate judicial process would be conducted as soon as the personnel were handed over to them.

Like United States, Like Nigeria

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 2 Second

The police in the United States had been killing unarmed black men and young black boys in the street playing with toy guns. It is risky living as a black man in the street of the United States. One could easily be shot and killed if the police mistake your cellphone for a gun. White people don’t have that problem. They could bear arms in public and public gatherings and cite the Second Amendment to the US Constitution. A black man with a weapon is a moving target!

Just last Friday, over a hundred white men heavily armed took over a federal government reservation in the state of Oregon. They dared the US government to come and take it from them. They are local militias and some call them “red necks”. They are all whites and racists. But you could hardly hear the news about the situation.

In fact it took almost two days for the mainstream media to air the news about the situation in Oregon. Even when the news is shown, it’s always in passing. Some tried to shamelessly justify their actions stating that they were peaceful. Peaceful with a gun? They are nothing but domestic terrorists!

If those people were blacks, Muslims or Hispanics, there would have been a 24-hour news cycle talking about the situation. The media houses would have moved their masts to the area for effective coverage. It would even be worse if say Black Panthers or the Hispanics MS-13 fully armed took over the federal government reservations. The US government would have effectively moved against them with the full force of the US military power. Their location would have been bombed. Even the FBI is still evasive about the situation.

The last time that a black group known as the “MOVE” engaged in a siege, it occurred in Philadelphia in 1985. Like the Oregon extremists, the members of MOVE, who lived together in a townhouse in West Philly, were rabidly anti-government, antagonized law enforcement, represented a fringe ideology, and were heavily armed. There was, however, one crucial difference: the MOVE adherents were black. And so, on May 13, 1985, police with military-grade weapons surrounded the house, purportedly seeking to make an arrest for a noise complaint, and, when shots were fired back, assaulted the house with a barrage of bullets and tear gas, and dropped two bombs on the American civilians inside from a military helicopter. The bombs triggered a massive blaze that destroyed several nearby blocks and killed eleven people, including five children.

In Nigeria, the Boko Haram is terrorising the whole of North East of Nigeria. They have been killing, maiming, beheading and raping young women and girls. They have destroyed billions of naira worth of properties, displaces hundreds of thousands of people. But the Nig government is treating them like royalties. They have been begging get them to come to the table.

Yet the unarmed Biafran agitators are being shot and killed without provocation. The speed that the military moved their tanks to PH, Aba, Onitsha, Asaba etc was very swift.

Like black lives in the US, Igbo and minorities’ lives don’t matter. Blacks in the US are endangered species just like Igbos and people of the Lower Niger of Nigeria. An Igbo man and others could be killed by any reason or for no reason at all. You agitate, they kill you. You mind your business, they kill you. Up till now, many people are still missing. Some were killed and dumped at Ezu River, others are languishing in police stations and military dungeons.

This is the tale of the two countries.

Obama Wants To Use Hammond Ranch For The Natural Resources

0 0
Read Time:33 Second

President Obama outraged Americans everywhere when he recently ordered the Hammond Ranch in Oregon to be evacuated “by any means” in order to obtain the Natural Gas, Uranium, Mercury and Gold and Silver Deposits on the BLM land.

This is just one of many violations we’ve seen at the hands of President Obama, who seems to have no respect for hardworking Americans, their rights, or their land.

Now, one source reports that members of the Bureau of Land Management have been harassing ranchers across the nation—and they’re speaking Russian.

Watch the video below and tell us what you think. Is this absolutely outrageous?

Built environment experts to FG: Pump money into construction industry, grow other sectors

0 0
Read Time:10 Minute, 21 Second

AGAINST the backdrop of a very difficult year in which the construction industry witnessed several abandoned or uncompleted projects, job losses and huge debts owed contractors for projects already completed, built environment experts have called on the Federal Government to pump enough money into the fledging sector in view of its multiplier effect on other sectors.

The experts who spoke to Vanguard Homes & Property posited that the construction industry which is generally regarded as the barometer for measuring the health of any economy, should be given priority attention by the Muhammadu Buhari-led Federal Government.
The Secretary, Marketing & Corporate Affairs, Nigerian Institute of Quantity Surveyors,NIQS, Mr. Olujide Oke said expectations are high that the sector will come out of the woods.

Sectoral activities

“The budget has been read but we are yet to get the breakdown to enable us know how sectoral activities will be. But we are positive and optimistic because of the improvement in capital expenditure and the fact that we have a tested and trusted man in the person of Mr. Babatunde Fashola as the Minister in charge of Power, Works and Housing. We are still watching as events unfold but we are optimistic and hopeful,” Mr. Oke said.

Asked to set an agenda for the government, Mr Oke advised the government to inject sufficient funds into the construction and housing sector. The NIQS Marketing & Corporate Affairs Secretary who observed that many projects in the country have either being abandoned or are at a standstill, called on the government to reawaken and bring such projects back to life. He also advised the government to pay contractors the outstanding debts owed them to enable them return to the abandoned construction sites.

“The construction sector is the first sector to reflect the health of any economy. If the government pumps money into it, other sectors will benefit: artisans, contractors, consultants, construction materials producers and suppliers – the benefits will cut across all sectors of the economy. The trickle down effect will be massive,” he said.

Mr Oke charged the government to do all within its power to ensure that power supply becomes stable. “If power becomes stable, many of the industries which are pulling out of the country will return while those planning to exit will remain. Small scale industries will thrive and artisans will have power to remain in business,” he said.

He lauded current efforts by the Federal Government to boost activities in the housing sector. “It will be a massive boost to the economy if the government pumps in enough money into the sector. The construction industry has been comatose as it were, our roads are in very bad states. If enough money is injected into the construction industry, the government will be in a position to fix the Lagos-Ibadan express way, the Benin -Ore Road and other very bad roads in the South-eastern part of the country,” the NIQS image maker said, adding that the government should also tackle corruption in the construction industry with all its might.

Immediate past chairman of the Lagos State branch of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers, NIESV, Pastor Stephen Jagun who also spoke to Vanguard Homes & Property, called on the Federal Government to come up with a clear-cut financial policy to enable local and foreign investors know where to put their money.

Jagun noted that since the present administration came to power, we have not had a clear-cut financial policy and this is hurting the economy. According to him, the financial policy somersault is impacting negatively on the economy as many investors are scared of investing in the country’s real estate sector.

Jagun who noted that expectations that infrastructure and housing would be given a major boost going by the pedigree of Fashola who oversees the Power, Works and Housing Ministry, enjoined such optimists to soft pedal. He anchored his subdued optimism on the fact that Fashola is not 100 percent in charge as was the scenario when he was the Governor of Lagos State. “Now, he will take directives from the President and would also require the cooperation of other ministries and agencies, When he was performing in Lagos State, he was calling the shots 100 percent unlike now,” Jagun posited.

The current chairman of NIESV, Lagos branch, Mr. Samuel Ukpong in his own reaction, enjoined the Federal Government to shift its attention away from oil and focus on other sources of internally generated revenue, IGR. He stated that real estate assets can be be a veritable source of revenue and advised the government to explore this. He called on the government to put measures in place to reduce substantially the current housing deficit put at a staggering 17 million units.

Apart from calling on the government to use relevant professionals in the execution of its projects, Ukpong advised both the Federal and state governments to appoint a Valuer-General especially now that the government is implementing the Public Sector Accounting Standards.
Also speaking to Vanguard Homes & Property on his expectations in the new year, the President of the Building Collapse Prevention Guild, BCPG, Mr Kunle Awobodu called on the government to pay contractors who are owed huge debts for projects already completed.

Dwindling fortunes

Noting that many of them have retrenched or at the verge of downsizing their workforce, Awobodu maintained that the government cannot embark upon massive construction projects without the support of construction companies.

He prayed that the dwindling fortunes of the Naira against major currencies would be halted while the government looks for other sources of beefing up the country’s revenue base.

Awobodu, a former chairman of the Lagos State chapter of the Nigerian Institute of Building, NIOB, called on the government to register all developers engaged in housing construction. He also made a case for quality control of houses being built in the country. “The fact that we are in dire need of housing does not mean that we should build shoddy or substandard houses. Professionals should be engaged to play necessary roles in the built environment sector,” he said.

OLEH—APPREHENSION has gripped students of Delta State University, Oleh campus, following the withdrawal of the accreditation of the institution’s Faculty of Law by the Nigeria University Commission, NUC.

The Faculty of Engineering, the other faculty in the campus, it will be recalled, lost its accreditation about four years ago, eliciting fears in the Oleh community that the campus may be scrapped.

Reacting to the development, the President, Law Students Association of Nigeria, LAWSAN, Oleh campus, Mr. Desmond Orisewezie, appealed to the state government “to do its best to partner the university authority to ensure the prompt accreditation of the two faculties in the campus.

“Engineering has lost its accreditation, and now Law Faculty. If the issue is left like that, it means that the campus will be closed which will not be fair, because psychologically, it is going to have effect on the students.”

On his part, Mr. Oghenemine Djebah, a 400 level student of the Faculty of Law, appealed to the state governor to look into the various areas of need identified by NUC to enable the two faculties to regain full accreditation.

Djebah said that the conditions given by the accreditation team of NUC which he said include the provision of computers for the faculty’s e-library, upgrading of books, provision of air conditioners for the library, the completion and furnishing of the lecture and the moot court, could be achieved with proper commitment from the government and the cooperation of the school authority.
