Meet the baby born without a skull and brain [defies all odds to celebrate first birthday]

A young baby born without his skull in Florida recently celebrated his first birthday despite doctors saying he would die within days of birth.

Jaxon Emmett Buell, a true miracle baby was born with a rare brain malfunction called Microhydranencephaly, which left most of his skull and brain missing.

Doctors gave him just days to live, yet Jaxon has defied all the odds and celebrated his first birthday on August 27.

The little fighter has earned the nickname “Jaxon Strong” on social media as more than 20,000 people have shared his story.

Jax didn’t just survive until birth, he’s also defied doctors’ predictions that he would never walk, never talk, never hear and never see.

News of the child’s miraculous survival was read by hundreds of thousands after his first birthday in August, though some said that Brandon and his wife Brittany were ‘selfish’ or should have aborted the child to avoid the pain he will suffer.

However, the father of the infant responded to the criticism in a heartfelt Facebook post Saturday night, saying his wife and his decision to keep their son was ‘our choice, and only our choice’.

Brandon added that he and Brittany didn’t want to ‘play God’.

However, despite the couple’s difficult decision, some internet commenters have questioned why they would bring Jaxon into a world where he will likely never be able to walk, talk, hear, see or know that he is hungry.

Microhydranencephaly is an extreme malformation of the brain. The condition causes the head to be smaller than normal and the scalp ridged.

The plight of the Internally Displaced People (IDP), across various camps in Nigeria, has been the focus of attention since Boko-Haram intensified its attacks in the North.

The National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG), has decided to do something about it, by donating food items, basic supplies and  N1 million to IDPs in Abuja.

The group was led by its President, Comrade Igwe Achese.

Speaking to newsmen, Achese said “We came to express our love and to show our concern to the IDPs who were displaced internally in their home communities and their country Nigeria because of the the insurgency that we are facing today.

“The situation is painful and shocking that for the past four years we have been fighting this issue of insurgency and bringing people out of their communities to safeguard them.

“You are also putting them in a very hostile environment where anything can happen to them at any time, you can imagine where the school children are learning, they are learning in an open atmosphere that if it rains today, it will be difficult for these children to sit down to learn and read their books.”

This, the governor assured, would be ensured in spite of the twin tragedies of the crane crash and the stampede that had befallen this year’s Hajj exercise.

Tambuwal gave the assurance when he visited families of those affected by the tragedy in Sokoto.

A statement issued by Imam Imam, the governor’s Spokesman in Sokoto noted that “Hajj officials are working round the clock to ensure that all victims are properly identified and documented.

“The areas most affected in Sokoto State are Illela, Binji and Wamakko local government areas.

Addressing the families during a stop in Jamali village of Binji Local Government Area, Tambuwal said government was still collating the number of pilgrims who died, suffered injuries or missing.

He announced that as soon as the collation was done, government would assist the families in the best way possible.

The governor appealed to the people to exercise more patience, adding that many of those earlier thought to have died had been seen receiving treatment in hospitals in Saudi Arabia.

He announced that the state government would on Oct. 2, organise special prayers for victims and their families.

He said “as Muslims, we are encouraged to have faith in God at all times, especially in our difficult times.

“We will organise prayers for our country men and women for God to heal the injured, bless the dead and bring the missing ones back to us in good health.”

Other communities visited include Gidan Hamma, Binji and Wamakko.

Gov. Ibikunle Amosun of Ogun has urged Nigerians to support President Muhammadu Buhari in the crusade to eradicate corruption in the country.

He made the call at the 55th Independence Day Anniversary Celebration at the MKO Abiola stadium in Abeokuta on Thursday.

He also urged Nigerians to focus on things that would further bring about peaceful co-existence among the people, irrespective of tribe, religion and language.

The governor thanked the presidency for the bail-out given to the state to avert further economic and labour crisis, saying the country had every reason to celebrate the national day “because of immediate changes witnessed under the present administration.’’

He said that in spite of the financial challenges faced by the country due to dwindling oil revenue, the Nigeria project was still on course and achievable by the present administration.

He saluted the efforts of the country’s founding fathers who fought for the nation’s democracy and commended the military in the fight against insurgency in the North-East and other crimes.

He also praised Nigerians for standing together during the 2015 general elections.

He commiserated with Nigerians, state governments and families who lost their loved ones during the stampede in Saudi Arabia.
