The Senate in a united voice on Tuesday, 28th July, 2015, has passed a vote of confidence in the Senate President, Senator Bukola Saraki.

In a motion, which was moved by Senator Samuel Anyanwu, the Senate warned security operatives to stop harassing members of the senate or their family members.

Anyanwu said “Considering the sustained interference in the internal affairs of the Senate by detractors and media propaganda against the Senate and senators by selfish politicians. The senate hereby resolved to pass a vote of confidence in the President of the Senate, Senator Bukola Saraki; the Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu; the entire senate leadership as presently constituted.”

The vote of confidence was moved by all the senators from both the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Congress.

This puts to rest the various squabbles in the hallowed chambers.

President Muhammadu Buhari is set to visit The Republic of Benin on Saturday, August 1 for talks on how to combat terrorist sect, Boko Haram.

Buhari will meet with Benin counterpart, Boni Yayi after a similar visit to Cameroon on Wednesday, July 29, 2015.

According to a statement by the Nigerian president’s media aide, Femi Adesina, the trip will round-off Buhari’s diplomatic shuttles to neighbouring countries to strengthen regional cooperation against terrorism and make it much harder for Boko Haram to operate across national boundaries.

Yayi had visited Abuja, along with the leaders of Chad and Niger, after Buhari’s inauguration for a security summit on the creation of a multinational force against the sect.
