An Abandoned Boy Uses His Disfigurement To Help Others

Read Time:1 Minute, 27 Second

Jono Lancaster was abandoned at not even 2 days after he was born, and his parents left him at the hospital all because of the way he looked.

Jono has Treacher Collins Syndrom, a rare congenital disorder that affects only 1 in 50,000 live births. Jono's TC Syndrome is responsible for his appearance, and he's felt the bullying and judgement all his life. TCS leaves the cheekbones and jawbone under-developed, as well as drooping lower eyelids, disfigured ears, and a definite chance of mental issues from the person's self-worth.

Growing up, Jono struggled to make friends because of his appearance, and reduced himself to a troubled child from the bullying and loneliness he felt:

"I was desperate to have friends, I’d do anything. I had no confidence. I’d buy lots of sweets and give them to the other kids so that they’d like me. I set a firework off in class, I got up to no good.. It was quite often alcohol related, I got quite a bad reputation amongst other mums and teachers."

Jono has grown into himself though, coming to terms with his looks and realizing he can lead a perfectly normal and happy life no matter how he looks. Jono realized it's all in how he views himself, and has travelled the world helping other younger people with the same syndrome to overcome the hurdles they face growing up.

"As I’ve grown older, I’ve learned to be proud of the way I look. I love the way I look and I love being me."

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

A 22-year-old man, Will Page, had been looking forward to see his yet to be born child but that dream has blown up as he was killed by a parking metal barrier that swung into his van.

And to be bonded with his unborn baby, he will be buried with the scan photo of the child that he will not live to see.

The young dad-to-be, an apprentice engineer, was leaving a car park on an industrial estate when the metal barrier caught by a gust of wind, swung through the windscreen of his van, and crashed into him.

His pregnant girlfriend, Rachael Cross said that the honour is the only way to make sure Page bonds with the unborn child he had been excitedly expecting.

"He’d left me in bed while he went to do up his car. His last words to me were ‘Love you, bye’ and off he went. That was the last time I saw him.

The barrier was one you’re supposed to bolt back when you go through but Will hadn’t. As he came out a gust of wind blew it straight through the windscreen.

I’m determined now to be the best mum and dad there is."

Meet the honest airport cleaner who earns N7,500,that found $27,000 (N12m) and returned it

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 34 Second

Pictured above is a very honest woman, Josephine Agwu, who works as a cleaner at the Murtala International Airport in Lagos where while cleaning one of the toilets at the airport on January 23rd, found a bag containing $27,000 which is 12 million in Naira equivalent. Josephine took the bag to the security post at the airport for an announcement to be made for the owner to come forward & collect it, which was done.

The woman earns just N7,800 as her monthly salary for a 12-hours a day job.

Josephine, who is from Enugu state spoke to Vanguard about why she took the decision to return the money. Read that after the cut…

“I am from Enugu State, from Obonkpa in Nsukka Local Government. I live at Agbotukunyo in Agege. The incident happened on the 23rd of January 2015. I was on morning duty. So as I was sweeping around 6:30pm, I saw the bag on the ground and there were some passengers there so I thought that the bag could belong to one of them. But as I closed at 7:20pm, the person to relieve me on duty came that time. I was going to the toilet again, I saw the same bag there. Then I told the passengers sitting there that they should be mindful of the bag because once they announce the flight they may forget it. They replied that the bag did not belong to them. Three of the passengers left, so I then picked the bag and took it to the FAAN security people. At first, they put the bag on the screening machine, before they opened the bag and discovered that there were many envelops in the bag containing money in different currencies including dollars. As they were counting it, I saw an NDLEA woman accompanied by one man and both of them were coming towards us. They said that the man could be the owner of the bag. So when they came in, they interviewed the man and the man mentioned the amount of money and the colour of the bag. Before then, they had counted the money and it was exactly the amount that the man said. Then they carried the money and gave to the man for him to count. After counting, they asked him if the money was complete, he said yes and they snapped him picture. They asked him again about three times and they told the man that, ‘look at the woman that picked your bag’, and the man was looking at me. His name is Mr. Obinna Samuel. They told him that he should thank his God that if it were another person, that person would have run away with the bag but this woman didn’t do that. So I left and the man took the money and put inside the bag and went away. Then FAAN security personnel called me back, and they took my number On-Duty-Card (ODC) and my name. That was how it happened. People are praising me, FAAN said that they are going to give me automatic employment but I have not heard from them till now. People should appreciate what they have. People do a lot of bad things because they are not happy with what they have. With the little I earn, I try to manage it well. If I can’t manage that small money that I earn, even if I begin to earn N1 million, I will still not know how to manage it. So, I am telling every Nigerian to be happy in any situation they find themselves. Don’t be faster than your shadow because so many things will go wrong. Sometimes things get bad because people want to be like others. All fin gers are not equal. It is true that God promised those who serve him riches, but people should be careful how they go about it. I am telling people to have pa tience. It is because people want quick money that is why some people become thieves. On the part of my management, in fact they are happy, all my supervisors. In short they are doing good things for me, even they are carrying me like egg, even my MD. They have added money to my salary. In short, my manager, Madam Eunice has been doing many things for me since the incident, praising me. She said that she knows that she can trust me, and that I cannot see anything that does not belong to me and I take it away” she said

Josephine says for showing such a remarkable decision, her company has decided to increase her salary from N7,800 to N15,000 monthly and also the management of FAAN has promised to make her a permanent staff

“FAAN (Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria) said that they are going to give me automatic employment, but I have not heard from them till now. On the part of my management, they are happy, all my supervisors. In short, they are doing good things for me. Now, they carry me like egg, even my MD.” she said

Meanwhile the Lagos state House of Assembly on Monday February 22nd at its plenary session decided to invite Josephine to the House to honor her for her honesty.

Read Time:1 Minute, 18 Second

Two men from Miami, Flordia, who are believed to be brothers, Bogacski Thomas and Tavarus Ballard, have been arrested and charged to court with kidnapping a teenage girl and forcing her to have sex with dozens of men on a daily basis.

Aside the charge, Thomas and Ballard have also been charged with human trafficking, drug possession, robbery, along with a long list of other crimes.

The Florida police report that in January, the men kidnapped a 16-year-old girl and for two weeks, the girl was routinely beaten, threatened, and sold as a prostitute, till she managed to get away and make a report.

The report said:

"Thomas told the victim that if she tried to leave they knew where her family lived and they would shoot up her house and hurt or kill her family.

Every time she tried to escape, they would beat her up, grab her back.

In one case, they picked her broken body up and took her back up into the motel.

She was forced to engage in sex, up to 24 men per night. That is a man every 30 minutes from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. at night.

Only to repeat itself the next day and the next day.

To them, she was nothing more than a walking machine, no dignity, not a young girl. A cash machine."

Thomas and Ballard used the money the girl made from prostitution to buy food, drugs, and hotel rooms, also forcing her to take some of the drugs they bought.

Military men dehumanize ‘Keke’ rider over N250 bribe

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 29 Second

Some soldiers attached to the OP MESA, a military security outfit in Lagos, allegedly took the laws into their hands when they descended on a 57-year-old tricycle (popularly called 'Keke Marwa', ) rider, Sunday Akomolafe, at the Ahmadiyya park, when the man, a member of the Nigerian Legion, refused to give them a bribe of N250.

New Telegraph reports that the victim lamented that the soldiers in an OP MESA van with Air Force 07 written on it, came to their park and insisted he should, ‘give them their dues’.

He reportedly told the soldiers that they had to wait for the executives of the park, but that they were not patient and descended on him, attacking him, injuring him in the process.

According to Akomolafe, they pay N500 every day to different security teams that visit their park, maintaining that the constant patrol of the park by security agents made them work under tension even though they were duly registered.

Akomolafe said:

"It happened on March 3, around 11am. I saw four OP MESA men. They came in a van with Air Force 07 written on it. They asked me for their ‘due’ and I told them that our executives were not around. Usually, it is our executives that used to pay them.

But they did not listen to my explanation. They asked me to raise N250 by all means. When I refused, one of them slapped me from the back. They all gathered and beat me. One of them hit me with the butt of his gun.

People started begging on my behalf, fearful they would kill me. But they did not listen. I had lost much blood before I was rushed to the hospital."

72-year-old landlady docked for stealing tenant’s N500,000

Read Time:1 Minute, 6 Second

A 72-year-old Lagos landlady, Bamidele Ogboro, has shown that there is no age limit when it comes to committing a crime after she was arrested and charged to court for allegedly stealing her tenant's N500,000.

She did not stop at that as she showed the man whose name was given as Ejikeme Hypolite, that she is the owner of the house when she ejected him out of her house located at 6, Shopeju Street, Shogunle, in the state.

Ogboro was dragged to the Oshodi Magistrates’ Court on the charges of breach of peace, conspiracy and stealing.

She allegedly committed the crimes on March 2, 2015, at her residence, according to the police prosecutor in the case, Cpl. Kehinde Olatunde.

Olatunde said that the accused hired some thugs to forcefully eject Hypolite from her house after stealing his money.

"The accused hired five men to damage the complainant’s door so as to gain entrance into his room.

She then threw the complainant’s property outside from his apartment and locked it up.

The complainant said that the missing N500,000 was the house rent amount he had earlier given to his landlord which she rejected then.

Other documents include his primary school leaving certificate and his university certificate."
