Apologise Now, Pope Orders Mbaise Priests

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 1 Second

Head of the Catholic Church worldwide, Pope Francis has ordered priests of the Diocese of Ahiara, Mbaise in Imo State who are opposed to the appointment of Most Rev. Ebere Peter Okpalaeke as the bishop of the diocese to individually write letters of apology to him and ask for forgiveness. The Pope gave the order in a letter dated JUNE 29, 2014 and signed on his behalf by the Papal Nuncio in Nigeria, Archbishop Augustine Kasujja and addressed to the priests and the people Ahiara Catholic Diocese…

Priests and lay faithful of the diocese led by the President and Secretary, Ahiara Diocesan Priests Association, Rev. Fr. Austin B. Ekechukwu and Rev. Fr. Dominic N. Ekweariri respectively had stunned the Christendom in January last year when they staged a peaceful demonstration against the appointment of Bishop Okpalaeke as their bishop. They had said the appointment of Bishop Okalaeke contradicted natural justice and that they would resist any attempt to forcefully impose him on them as the bishop of the diocese because, according to them, it sent a very reprehensible signal about the status and reputation of the 500 CATHOLIC PRIESTS that trace their origin to the soils of Mbaise. But more than 18 months after that incident, Pope Francis said it was time to end “this grave act of disobedience. I would therefore expect an act of sincere and profound repentance presented in the form of a letter from all of you, signed individually by each of you, asking the Holy Father for forgiveness”, adding that he was waiting for such sign of affection.

The letter reads “I address especially the priests, who on the day of their sacerdotal ordination had solemnly and publicly declared their obedience to their proper Bishop, to his successors and to the HOLY FATHER. We are now confronted with the most grave act of disobedience, which is inflicting a wound on ecclesial communion!” The supreme pontiff reminded the priests to reflect on the homily he proclaimed last Holy Thursday (April 17, 2014) where he explained who a priest stands for. According to him, “the priest is the poorest of men unless Jesus enriches him by his poverty, the most useless of servants unless Jesus calls him his friend, the most ignorant of men unless Jesus patiently teaches him as he did Peter, the frailest of Christians unless the GOOD SHEPHERD strengthens him in the midst of the flock. Priestly joy is a joy which is sister to obedience”. He told the priests and the faithful of the diocese that their ideological and prejudicial opposition to the newly appointed Bishop had no credible or justifiable motive, saying that “being a son of your diocese cannot be a primary factor for evaluating the appointment of a Bishop”.

The Pope added that the church had other criteria for choosing priests which included the person’s human virtues, moral and spiritual qualities, his pastoral experience and his capacity for guiding a community of the faithful. He explained that these qualities were found in Okpalaeke before he was appointed the Bishop of Ahiara Diocese, because according the letter, the candidate had shown spiritual and moral worthiness for Episcopal office as well as his suitability for the diocese. The church leader added that many bishops, priests, religious and faithful were consulted in Nigeria and Cardinals and Bishops in Rome carefully evaluated Okpalaeke, whom, in the end, he found worthy and suitable for Ahiara Diocese after approval by former POPE BENEDICT XVI. He regretted that the priests had, through disobedience, placed themselves at the margins of the church

SENSIBLE NONSENSE OF ALEX IKWUECHEGH

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 15 Second

Recently, former Aba North elected Chairman, Ikwechegh Alex, granted an interview titled ‘Orji has put Abia in national political grid!’. From all indications, Alex was merely trying to launder his image if he has any.

There is this Igbo analogy that goes this way. You pulled your gun at me, pulled the trigger and it did not shoot, because there was no bullet and I was not killed. Now you weep profusely, telling me that you are sorry. What if the gun exploded and blew the head off me? Crocodile ties!

The other scenario is that of a cowboy in a Western. Remember Westerns, sometime the most popular films of the forties fifties and all. This cowboy heard a gunshot. He fell off the horse and hid in-between two narrow walls, panting and shaky. He actually had a gun but didn’t return fire. When the heat was over, he cleaned his dusty jacket and emerged from his hiding, boasting how he returned fire. He thought that nobody saw him in his hiding place but somebody did and just touched the muzzle of his cold gun to prove his lies.

All the above fit Alex the smart Alec. Alex Ikwechegh got into council through the maneuver of his uncle and mentor, Orji Uzor Kalu. While Chairman of Aba North Local Government Area, one of the richest Local Governments with high revenue profile, he was the greatest debtor. He refused upon all entreaties to pay Local Government workers. In Unconfirmed stories that loomed larger than life, he was known to elope to South Africa, spend his holidays in the company of Nolly Wood stars he drenched with money meant for sweating, LGA Staff while he drowned in Champagnes and the best of South African wines.

Families of malnourished workers under him in the council, went to bed hungry. Dependent relatives died in hospitals due to no care, children of some couldn’t go back to school because Alex did not pay, but in the interview, he employed the usual style of Nigerian politicians who think that they can always change history by mere telling new stories in glossy magazines, newspapers and badly written biographies. Alex is a beautiful piece of fakery.
He was the youngest of the chairmen and was expected to be closer to the people, especially the youths but he took to the ostrich strategy and was credited with the saying that ‘T.A. Orji shouldn’t bother him about salaries of workers but should mind his business. If he feels so aggrieved that he should use the state fund to pay. That after all, they derived their powers from one source.’

In the interview in Business Day newspaper of Friday, August, 1, 2014, Page 43, South-south /South-east news page, he reeled off so many funny and shameless niceties about the Governor and Abia State. Hear him, “The Governor is saving lives. Civil servants no longer embark on strike, as their salaries are paid and on time. I remember when the global economic recession hit us at Aba North, when we couldn’t even pay salaries. In fact, about 85 percent of local government areas could not pay salaries at that time. The governor used part of state funds to assist us. I don’t know how he did it, but he ended up clearing those salary arrears.

From such sweet talk and sensible nonsense, it is obvious that Alex is planning to come back to PDP. He claims to be a member of PDP, maybe in Abuja for I am sure that he is not in Igbere, his home place. Alex equally claims to have followers whom he will galvanize into action to work for PDP or campaign for T.A. Orji in the senatorial bid. Two questions are enough to unveil the feignings of Alex. Where has he been? How many years have passed since he lay low like the proverbial bedbug waiting for the heat to cool off? Hogwash! Lies and damn lies.

Alex has no followers except phantom objects and mannequins he bought in South Africa for his large wardrobe, aftermath of his reckless shoppings in his uncountable trips. He should first apologize to the workers, especially those who died waiting for Alex to pay.

We are waiting for Ikwechegh in Igbere. NULGE is watching with keen interest.

This is one insult we would repudiate as Abia labour would not be intimidated with his connections, or ignore his gargantuan misdeeds and his shameless displays of wealth that were squeezed from the Local Government workers he refused to pay.

There is no point asking if am angry. Yes I am not only angry, I am bitter and will show this any day I see Alex’s photos on posters. Alex should be told that the ballot box is back and votes count in Abia. No dirty rubber stamps and promotion of scoundrels into authority.

AKWA IBOM STATE GOVERNMENT. MINISTRY OF INFORMATION. . PRESS RELEASE. . ORO IS NOT MARGINALIZED – INFORMATION BOSS. .

The Akwa Ibom state Commissioner for Information and Communications,. Mr. Aniekan Umanah, has described the recent claims of marginalization. of Oro nation by the government of Governor Godswill Akpabio, as. reported in some section of the media as baseless.. Calling on peddlers of such falsehood to desist from inciting the. people against the Governor, Mr. Umanah, wondered how Governor. Akpabio, who has done so much to revamp infrastructure across the. State, could be accused of marginalization.. He noted that the Governor has not only performed well in transforming. the State, but has also ensured an even spread of developmental. projects, with Oro nation as one of the first beneficiaries of the. uncommon transformation, since inception of the administration.. Describing the alleged marginalization as the handiwork of political. jobbers whose stock in trade is blackmail, especially as the 2015. general elections approaches, Mr. Umanah called on all stakeholders to. show fairnes in their judgement, rather than allow cheap political. gains drive them into distorting facts.. The State image maker queried how a government that has nominated. indigenes of Oro into key position of government like ministers,. ambassadors, five Commissioners, chairmen of boards and parastatals,. amidst several others could be labelled as sectional, recalling that. the area has not seen such unpreceedented level of participation and. development, since 1979, even when they had their sons in position of. governance..

The Commissioner enumerated the ongoing work at Ibaka deep seaport,. the Ibom airport; which lies largely on Oro land, more than 37 roads. which have been completed, over 483 interministerial/direct labour. projects, including the current rehabilitation and remedial work on. the broken down Uyo-Oron road, in addition to numerous ongoing. projects, as part of the Chief Akpabio’s achievement in the area.. He expresed dismay at such falsehood, as it is already established. that projects such as the free medical services, free and compulsory. education, massive construction and rehabilitation of schools,. electrification of communities as well as construction of a 1.2 km. bridge, which is the longest the administration has so far undertaken,. is a proof of Oron nation’s treasured place in the Akpabio. administration.. Mr. Umanah challenged the merchants of hate and those fanning embers. of discord, to point to what major project that was done in the area,.

since creation of the State, prior to Governor Akpabio’s. administration.. . . Samuel Ayara. Media Assistant to the Hon. Commissioner

Wike A Shameless Liar —Rivers APC

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 27 Second

•Says no Commissioner is defecting to PDP

The All Progressives Congress (APC), Rivers State Chapter, has dismissed as a big lie, the claim by Minister of State for Education, Mr. Nyesom Wike, that six serving Commissioners in the state have concluded plans to dump the party for the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

“This is nothing but idle talk and it exposes Wike as a shameless liar because no Commissioner in the Rt. Hon. Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi administration is contemplating defecting to the virtually non-existent PDP, not to talk of six of them leaving in one fell swoop for a party that is on its way to the graveyard in Rivers State,” Rivers APC said in a statement issued Thursday in Port Harcourt by its Chairman, Dr. Davies Ibiamu Ikanya.

Ikanya noted that “if Wike is a serious mind, he would have mentioned the names of the six imaginary Commissioners that allegedly gave him advance notice of their purported intention to dump APC for the embattled PDP.” The APC State Chairman dismissed Wike’s expectation in this regard as “a malaria dream and mere wishful thinking as none of our Commissioners in the present State EXCO is either contemplating or planning such a suicidal step of joining PDP that will soon disintegrate.”

He said that, “to the contrary, several of the characters parading themselves as governorship aspirants under the dying PDP platform have entered into serious negotiations with our party leadership with a view to joining APC as the undisputable PDP Leader in Rivers State, Her Excellency, Dame Patience Jonathan, has refused to anoint any of them. In this regard, it is unfortunate that Chief Wike seems not to be in the picture that he will in the next few weeks be expelled from PDP for anti-party activities to pave the way for the First Lady’s anointed candidate.”

Ikanya insisted that APC is now the last bus stop for any serious politician in Rivers State, adding that the party is gearing up to announce the demise of PDP in the state after Mama Peace (Dame Jonathan) executes her plan to impose an unpopular governorship candidate on the party.

The Rivers State APC Chairman similarly dismissed as a joke the claim by South-South PDP Zonal Secretary, Mr. Joe Onyewelu, that the party would recapture Rivers and Edo states during the 2015 general elections.

“This,” according to Ikanya, “is nothing but wishful thinking on the part of PDP states as the great feats of Governors Amaechi in Rivers State and Adams Oshiomhole in Edo have given the people a good idea of what good governance looks like, thereby sealing the fate of the discredited PDP, not only in the two states, which they under-developed, but, indeed, throughout the Niger Delta and elsewhere across the country.”
