In July 2013, it was reported that 17-year-old Curt-Leigh, the son of SANParks ranger Llewellyn Dixon, discovered the mysterious dead body of the alien-like creature outside Nature's Valley in South Africa. The dead body of the bizarre creature was long and thin, with rough teeth and a shrunken head. The picture and alien claims created an internet storm back then, and it scared the local residents who proclaimed they have found proof of extraterrestrials. They said the body is of an alien who lived and died on planet Earth. The people who did not believe in paranormal and extraterrestrial claims speculated it could be a seal crossed with a monkey charred beyond recognition, or a donkey, aborted horse, badly shrivelled dead dog, or even a Tikoloshe (a supernatural beast in Zulu mythology).
The mysterious claims came to an end after a local doctor Dr Magdalena Braum of The Crags Veterinary Clinic performed an autopsy of the alien-like creature and confirmed — it was nothing more than a mummified baby baboon. She explained saying, “It was a newborn female baboon, with umbilical cord still attached to her body. It was most likely killed by the bite through her skull soon after birth, possibly infanticide, which is very common in some primate species when a new male takes over the troop." Further, she said the baby baboon is mummified as it was carried by the mother after death — a common habit of female baboons to carry the deceased infants on their tail section for as long as 3-4 weeks before discarding them finally. The Veterinary doctor says this is the reason why the creature has unusually long and narrow mid-body segment, that it is just a stretch.

The cell phone market is hotter than ever. You have so many choices when selecting a phone – android versus iOS, Samsung versus iPhone. The biggest choice you can make though, is going pre-paid versus signing a multi-year contract. In most cases, paying for your cell phone up front and joining a pay-as-you-go plan saves most money. If you don’t have a lot of cash up front, you might be better off signing a multi-year contract, but in the long run you’ll be paying more. Here are a few tips to save the most money on your cell phone: Get last year’s model. Getting a phone that has been on the market for only one year can sometimes result in savings of hundreds of dollars up front. You might not have the latest features, but cell phones have gotten so good these days that even a phone that is 3-4 years old performs most of your daily tasks. Ask your friends about their cell phone plans. Every area in the world has different competitors and plans. Chances are your friends did tons of research before they got their phones. Talk to them and see who they have chosen. Do research on the Internet. There are hundreds of websites and message boards on the Internet that discusses cell phones and plans. Join a few and start asking questions, you’ll be amazed at the well-researched answers you’ll get.

White farmers in Zimbabwe are reportedly on edge after President Robert Mugabe urged his supporters at a rally on Wednesday to reclaim their land, saying "We say no to whites owning our land and they should go."
HARARE, Zimbabwe, July 3 (UPI) —Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe, infamous for his strongman tactics, called on white farmers to turn over their land to black farmers.
Speaking at a rally with Zanu-PF supporters in Mashonaland West province on Wednesday, the 90-year-old Mugabe said "We say no to whites owning our land and they should go."
His remarks were reminiscent of a policy that began in 2000 in which the government reclaimed white farm land, a move that Mugabe's critics contend led to the country's economic collapse from 2000 to 2009.
"Don't be too kind to white farmers," Mugabe said Wednesday. "Land is yours, not theirs."
With only 100-150 white farmers left in Zimbabwe, Commercial Farmers Union director Hendricks Olivier told the BBC that the president's comments had unsettled white farmers. "We'd like to move forward and work with the government of the day."

The Vatican has legally recognized a group of priests who perform exorcisms in which they claim to expel the devil from people who are possessed.
The International Association of Exorcists was originally founded in 1990 and one of their leaders has been housed in the Vatican for years, but this is the first time that they have been given formal approval by the highest order of the Roman Catholic Church.
According to The Vatican's official newspaper L'Osservatore Romano, the Congregation for Clergy announced Tuesday that the Church's canon law now formally recognizes the group.
The International Association of Exorcists is made up of 250 priests who are spread over 30 countries.
One of their most active members is the Rev. Gabriele Amorth, who was one of the six founding members and has spoken extensively about his belief that exorcisms are the most effective way to fight the devil.
"The devil is not everywhere, but when he is present it is painful," Amorth said in an 2010 interview.
At that point in time, he said that he had treated more than 70,000 cases of demonic possession, and those regularly involved exorcisms where he and six or seven assistants hold down the possessed person as the devil fights back from inside the individual.
"The devil is pure spirit, invincible. He is shown with the painful blasphemies coming from the person which he possesses. He can stay hidden. He can speaks different languages. He can transform himself," Amorth says.
The priest said he had collected nails, glass and pieces of metal vomited up by people who were possessed by the devil. Amorth keeps in a pouch that he carries with him.
"Some have vomited metal the size of a human finger, others have vomited rose petals," the priest said.
By 2010, Amorth said he had moved offices 23 times because fellow priests had repeatedly complained about the screams that came from inside his chambers.
He believes it is imperative that priests become exorcists.
"I believe bishops who don't appoint exorcists are committing a mortal sin," he said at the time.
Amorth said even the Vatican is not immune from attacks from the devil.
In that interview, Amorth cited attacks on the two prior popes – when Pope John Paul II was shot and wounded in 1981 and when Pope Benedict XVI was pushed during the 2009 Christmas Eve mass by a female spectator – as acts of the devil.
"The devil resides in the Vatican," he said.
Amorth is not alone in his beliefs and now has a very vocal, and public, supportor: Pope Francis.
The pope, who was elected last March, has spoken about the devil in a number of public speeches.
The most poignant of those speeches came when he was first appointed.
"He who does not pray to the Lord prays to the devil. When we don’t proclaim Jesus Christ, we proclaim the worldliness of the devil, the worldliness of the demon," he said in his first mass as pope.

Gloria Elzy, 44, has been charged with cruelty to juveniles. (Newser) – A 5-week-old baby in Slidell, La., is only alive today because somebody noticed the child in the backseat of a car outside a strip mall Monday afternoon and called 911, police say.
A police officer used a device to unlock the vehicle and rescue the unconscious infant, who was sweating profusely after spending more than half an hour inside the car, where the temperature was around 130 degrees, the AP reports. The baby made a full recovery in the hospital and the mother is in custody on a charge of second-degree cruelty to juveniles. Police say the mother forgot the infant in the back seat after dropping off her other child and was in "complete shock" when she realized what had happened.
"With all the media attention on this type of issue, it's mind-boggling to me that someone can leave-better yet, forget-about a child inside of a vehicle," a police spokesman tells the Times-Picayune. If the citizen hadn't called police immediately and the officer hadn't acted quickly, "the baby would not have survived," he says. "They are both heroes in my book." At least 13 children have died in hot cars so far this year-including 22-month-old Cooper Harris, whose father has been charged with murder-and safety experts say many such deaths occur when a parent is distracted or breaks their routine, USA Today finds. They urge parents who drive with a young child in the back seat to adopt a simple, failsafe reminder system: leaving their left shoe in the back seat as well

Hillary Rodham Clinton’s memoir of her time at the State Department, came out in early June, the book — and subsequent book tour — were touted as the first steps in the inevitable 2016 presidential bid by the nation’s former top diplomat. If that’s what they are, Clinton may be in for some tough times.
The past few days tell the story. Even as Clinton was prepping for the European leg of her book tour, she was dogged by two recurring and not-so-good headlines.
The first involves the large speaking fees she has accepted from universities since she left the State Department. On Wednesday, The Washington Post reported that Clinton had received hundreds of thousands of dollars in the past year from eight universities — four of which are public — for speeches. That includes a $225,000 address she will give at the University of Nevada at Las Vegas this fall. Leaders in the university’s student government have asked Clinton not to accept the money.
Then there is the question of just how well Clinton’s book is actually selling. According to Nielsen BookScan, sales of “Hard Choices” this past week dropped by 46 percent from the week prior, which was down 44 percent from the week before that. Seeking to squash the book-isn’t-selling story, Correct the Record, a pro-Clinton outside group, released a memo Wednesday night noting that the book was No. 1 on the New York Times bestseller list for the third straight week and blaming the “right wing” for pushing out false information.
Actually, maybe the book tour is a perfect encapsulation of what a Clinton campaign might look like. And for that, Hillary Clinton, you had the worst week in Washington. Congrats, or something.
Each week, Chris Cillizza awards the worst week in Washington to an inhabitant of Planet Beltway who stands out for all the wrong reasons. You can check out previous winners or e-mail Cillizza with candidates.

The Nigerian government did not adequately communicate with the press about the nearly 300 schoolgirls abducted by Boko Haram, Nigerian Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala admitted to CNN’s Christiane Amanpour on Thursday.
“This is a very delicate situation with an unpredictable group. And I think that maybe this is one of the areas where we have not been able to communicate as well as we can.”
“The president has two daughters,” she said. “These children are our children. But we did not communicate that well.”
Critics say that far from just releasing bad information, the government released demonstrably false information.
Just days after the kidnapping in April, the Nigerian military announced that all but a handful of the girls had been released; that claim was soon disproved, and the girls are still missing.
“I don’t know how that happened,” Okonjo-Iweala said. “The issue now is not whether we are criticized or not criticized unfairly. I think we should forget about all that.”
Safer schools?
That public relations is to blame may be precious little consolation to the parents of the girls, who are still missing, but Okonjo-Iweala’s new initiative to better secure Nigeria’s schools may help.
She has come to London to announce a new “Safe Schools” initiative.
“The issue is what are we doing as a government to make things better? And this Safe Schools Initiative that has been launched with the help of Gordon Brown is one of the instruments.”
“We are trying to say to these girls: We are not just going to fold our hands. We will be working hard to get you back. But when you come back, you should find a different place.”
President Goodluck Jonathan is “trying to work with the UK, with France, the U.S., and other countries – China – to be able to get more intelligence, better intelligence, support, and support the army. Troops have been increased from 15,000 to 20,000 to try and provide better security.”
“This does not mean that you will not see incidents, because the nature of this type of insurgency is one single person can cause a problem somewhere.”
The government is leaving open all possibilities to get the girls back, she said, including negotiation with Boko Haram.
Just two weeks ago, the Nigerian military wrapped up its investigation into the missing girls, with little progress to show on returning them to their homes.
“I don’t think anyone has wrapped up anything,” she said. “You know, there are different stages of this investigation. There’s also a presidential committee that is also looking into this. There’s nothing to wrap up, Christiane.”
“We cannot wrap up anything until we get the girls back.”
The economic solution
The long-term solution to abductions like, Okonjo-Iweala said, may be economic – her bailiwick as finance minister.
“We face two problems: growing inequality, and also the lack of inclusion in these areas. And we’ve recognized that.”
“What we need to do is say, ‘What is the source of growth that can create jobs?’ Because the issue in our country is lack of jobs for our young people.”
Corruption is a huge issue in Nigeria but Okonjo-Iweala said her country is not alone.
“You cannot characterize Nigeria alone. It’s not when you mention the name Nigeria, the next word that comes up is corruption.”
“No,” Amanpour said, “but I’m talking to the Nigerian finance minister.”
“And I’m responding to you,” Okonjo-Iweala responded. “We must be more specific about the things we are doing to confront it.”
For example, she said, the government has ordered an independent investigation into billions of dollars in oil revenue that was revealed to have gone missing earlier this year.
“Of course, Christiane, there’s resistance. I mean, I’ve felt it. There is resistance. You know, there are winners and losers, and the losers can dig in, if they feel.”
“In Ekiti state, some of the reforms in education that he [the State's governor] was trying to bring, with teachers taking exams and so on and so forth – you know, in the U.S., when they [require] teachers’ exams, too, the teachers there were resistant. [And the United States] is a very highly educated state.”
Her feeling, she said, is that “communication to the grassroots” should be improved so that people recognize that reform “is really good for you and will change your future.”

UN chief ‘adopts’ lion cub in Kenya
NAIROBI, Kenya (AP) — U.N. Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon capped off a week of high-level U.N. discussions on the environment by “adopting” a 6-month-old lion cub Saturday
The young lioness, which was found abandoned in Nairobi National Park, will be raised by the Nairobi Animal Orphanage. Ban named the cub Tumaini, which means “hope” in Kenya’s language of Kiswahili, after his “hope that all people around the world will be able to live harmoniously with nature.”
“I sincerely hope this lion will grow healthy, strong and even fierce,” Ban said, drawing parallels with his hopes for the environment after this week’s first U.N. Environment Assembly.
The assembly was the highest-level U.N. body ever convened on the environment. More than 1,200 participants from 193 member states spent the week in Nairobi, where the U.N. Environment Program is headquartered. Ban said he hopes to see U.N. member states adopt a climate change deal during formal talks in Lima in December.
International environmental crime and terrorism ranked high on the assembly’s agenda. Illegal timber and products of wildlife crime — such as elephant ivory and rhino horn — are smuggled through the same routes as illegal weapons. The Somali militant group al-Shabab makes tens of millions of dollars a year from the illegal charcoal trade. The Lord’s Resistance Army, which U.S. forces are helping fight across central Africa, trade in elephant ivory.
Ban warned that popular discontent and criminal activity within countries could spawn international terrorism. He urged world leaders to address terrorism comprehensively, beginning within their countries’ own borders.
“United Nations, through its global counterterrorism strategy, is trying to provide necessary assistance and work with African countries,” Ban said. “The political leaders should always have inclusive dialogue and inclusive policies embracing all different groups of people. That is one fundamental principle which I have been looking to the world leaders to practice.”
Citing Boko Haram’s kidnapping of more than 200 Nigerian schoolgirls in April, Ban also said no country should have to handle counterterrorism efforts alone. A U.N. special envoy has met twice with Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan to offer a support package to the country.
Kenyan President Uhuru Kenyatta met with Ban Saturday morning to discuss how to strengthen Kenya’ssecurity forces. The leaders also discussed security issues in Somalia, South Sudan and the Democratic Republic of Congo.
Ban’s new lion cub is not the first exotic pet he’s received as head of the U.N. In 2009 Mongolia presented Ban with a rare horse named Enkhtaivan, or “Peace,” and in 2008 South Sudanese President Salva Kiir gave Ban a white bull named Ban Ki Moo

Justin Ross Harris, the Georgia man who left his 22-month-old son in a hot car for seven hours last month, was sexting six different women while his son died. Ross sent photos of his "exposed … erect penis" to the women over the Kik messaging app, Detective Phil Stoddard testified in court. And, because one of the girls was 17 years old, Ross may also face charges for "felony sexual exploitation of a minor and misdemeanor illegal contact with a minor," according to CNN.
Harris was in court to determine if he'd be granted bail and whether his case would go forward. The hearing was set to determine probable cause, which is why the judge allowed testimony on Ross's sexting.
Harris is charged with the June 18 death of his son Cooper, who he claims he forgot to drop off at day care that morning. Witnesses said they saw Harris run out of the car and shout "Oh, my God, what have I done?" when he discovered his son's body seven hours later. On June 28, however, a search warrant found that Harris has researched children dying in cars and how hot it needs to be for that to happen. His wife also researched children dying in cars, and told police that she'd researched car deaths because it was a fear of hers. Stoddard testified that the Harris family was having financial trouble and had two insurance policies on Cooper, one for $2,000 and one for $25,000. Friends of the Harrises, however, said Justin was a loving father. "He loved showing Cooper off to everybody," one man said. "He was always happy. Cooper was always smiling."
