Ex-Minister, Dr Ibrahim Lame, Loses his 2 Kids after they Locked Themselves in his Car

Tragedy struck on Tuesday afternoon at the Abuja home of former Police Affairs Minister Ibrahim Yakubu Lame as his two children suffocated to death in a locked car. Two-year-old Farida, who was Dr. Lame’s daughter, and her 1-year-old cousin Isah Abubakar Tahir died after being trapped for over an hour playing in one of the cars parked in the house.

The grieving fathers of the children, Dr. Lame and Abubakar Isah Tahir narrated to Daily Trust what happened. Farida’s father, who discovered the bodies, said it happened around 1.30 pm on Tuesday.

“The house driver came back around 1.30pm and when the children saw him while they were playing in the compound pleaded with him to take them out for a drive. The driver, who wanted to put them off, told them not to worry and should let him pray and come back, so while he left to pray, they decided to enter the car. Farida my daughter was two years old and Sabir (Isah’s alias) her cousin was one year old, so they got into the car.”

He explained that unfortunately the car has ‘child lock mechanism,’ which was on, so there was no way they could open the car from the inside, because it locks automatically.

“Nobody noticed they were inside. Initially he told them he was going to pray but had no intention of coming back, and after his prayer he started sleeping,” Lame said

By the time he discovered them after more than one hour of their being in the car, they were already dead.

But I decided to rush them to the hospital,” Lame said. They were confirmed dead at a hospital in Gwarinpa."

Pres. Jonathan has declared amnesty for Boko Haram members – Minister

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 5 Second

Minister of Youth Development, Mr. Boni Haruna disclosed that President Goodluck Jonathan has declared amnesty for members of terrorist group, Boko Haram as parts of his administration’s youths-friendly programmes and policies. The minister who said this on Thursday, May 29 at the International Conference Centre, Abuja during a special event tagged “A day with young leaders of Nigeria” to mark the nation’s Democracy Day added that series of integration programmes have been lined up for members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace.

Mr Haruna said, “President Goodluck Jonathan has also declared amnesty for members of the Boko Haram sect. “Series of integration programmes have been lined up for the members of the sect who would surrender their arms and embrace peace. “Let me use this opportunity on behalf of the Federal Government, to call on the members of the Boko Haram sect to embrace the government’s gesture and key to amnesty programme.”

He disclosed that 30,000 youths have benefited from the programme which has seen beneficiaries transforming from militants to wealth creators, employers of labour and skilled citizens. He recalled that in the wake of youth restiveness in the Niger Delta, the government came up with a development programme which provided an opportunity for the youth to express themselves and have a meaningful life. Haruna said although the amnesty programme was a fallout of a bitter national security, its effect on the youth had been profound. Pres. Jonathan who was present at the event said the military alone was incapable of stopping terrorism or any kind of radicalism, adding that terrorism could not succeed in any community without local supports. Therefore stressing the need for people who are respected by the insurgents to join hands with government to persuade them to desist. “Terror succeeds with local support. It will be difficult for terror to thrive where people reject it.

It is a major challenge to all of us. “Military alone cannot stop terror or any radicalism. Terrorists have people they respect, they have community, traditional and opinion leaders they respect. All of us can deradicalise them. “We will through persuasive activities encourage people to shun violence.” He said his government was already working out the modalities for reintroducing moral education into school curriculum. This, he said, would assist in re-orientation the young people in order to distinguish between right and wrong things.

Big Hospital Finally telling the truth about Cancer, Johns Hopkins

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 23 Second

LATEST CANCER INFORMATION
from Johns Hopkins

AFTER YEARS OF TELLING PEOPLE CHEMOTHERAPY IS THE ONLY WAY TO TRY AND ELIMINATE CANCER, JOHNS HOPKINS IS FINALLY STARTING TO TELL YOU THERE IS AN ALTERNATIVE WAY …

1. Every person has cancer cells in the body. These cancer cells do not show up in the standard tests until they have multiplied to a few billion. When doctors tell cancer patients that there are no more cancer cells in their bodies after treatment, it just means the tests are unable to detect the cancer cells because they have not reached the detectable size.

2. Cancer cells occur between 6 to more than 10 times in a person’s lifetime.

3. When the person’s immune system is strong the cancer cells will be destroyed and prevented from multiplying and forming tumors.

4. When a person has cancer it indicates the person has multiple nutritional deficiencies. These could be due to genetic, environmental, food and lifestyle factors.

5. To overcome the multiple nutritional deficiencies, changing diet and including supplements will strengthen the immune system.

6. Chemotherapy involves poisoning the rapidly-growing cancer cells and also destroys rapidly-growing healthy cells in the bone marrow, gastro-intestinal tract etc, and can cause organ damage, like liver, kidneys, heart, lungs etc.

7. Radiation while destroying cancer cells also burns, scars and damages healthy cells, tissues and organs.

8. Initial treatment with chemotherapy and radiation will often reduce tumor size. However prolonged use of chemotherapy and radiation do not result in more tumor destruction.

9. When the body has too much toxic burden from chemotherapy and radiation the immune system is either compromised or destroyed, hence the person can succumb to various kinds of infections and complications.

10. Chemotherapy and radiation can cause cancer cells to mutate and become resistant and difficult to destroy. Surgery can also cause cancer cells to spread to other sites.

11. An effective way to battle cancer is to STARVE the cancer cells by not feeding it with foods it needs to multiple.

What cancer cells feed on:

a. Sugar is a cancer-feeder. By cutting off sugar it cuts off one important food supply to the cancer cells. Note:Sugar substitutes like NutraSweet, Equal, Spoonful, etc are made with Aspartame and it is harmful. A better natural substitute would be Manuka honey or molasses but only in very small amounts. Table salt has a chemical added to make it white in colour. Better alternative is Bragg’s aminos or sea salt.

b. Milk causes the body to produce mucus, especially in the gastro-intestinal tract. Cancer feeds on mucus. By cutting off milk and substituting with unsweetened soy milk, cancer cells will starved.

c. Cancer cells thrive in an acid environment. A meat-based diet is acidic and it is best to eat fish, and a little chicken rather than beef or pork. Meat also contains livestock antibiotics, growth hormones and parasites, which are all harmful, especially to people with cancer.

d. A diet made of 80% fresh vegetables and juice, whole grains, seeds, nuts and a little fruits help put the body into an alkaline environment. About 20% can be from cooked food including beans. Fresh vegetable juices provide live enzymes that are easily absorbed and reach down to cellular levels within 15 minutes t o nourish and enhance growth of healthy cells.

To obtain live enzymes for building healthy cells try and drink fresh vegetable juice (most vegetables including bean sprouts) and eat some raw vegetables 2 or 3 times a day. Enzymes are destroyed at temperatures of 104 degrees F (40 degrees C).

e. Avoid coffee, tea, and chocolate, which have high caffeine. Green tea is a better alternative and has cancer-fighting properties. Water–best to drink purified water, or filtered, to avoid known toxins and heavy metals in tap water. Distilled water is acidic, avoid it.

12. Meat protein is difficult to digest and requires a lot of digestive enzymes. Undigested meat remaining in the intestines will become putrified and leads to more toxic buildup.

13. Cancer cell walls have a tough protein covering. By refraining from or eating less meat it frees more enzymes to attack the protein walls of cancer cells and allows the body’s killer cells to destroy the cancer cells.

14. Some supplements build up the immune system (IP6, Flor-ssence, Essiac, anti-oxidants, vitamins, minerals, EFAs etc.) to enable the body’s own killer cells to destroy cancer cells. Other supplements like vitamin E are known to cause apoptosis, or programmed cell death, the body’s normal method of disposing of damaged, unwanted, or unneeded cells.

15. Cancer is a disease of the mind, body, and spirit. A proactive and positive spirit will help the cancer warrior be a survivor.

Anger, unforgiving and bitterness put the body into a stressful and acidic environment. Learn to have a loving and forgiving spirit. Learn to relax and enjoy life.

16. Cancer cells cannot thrive in an oxygenated environment. Exercising daily, and deep breathing help to get more oxygen down to the cellular level. Oxygen therapy is another means employed to destroy cancer cells.

HOLY DIVORCE: My wife is always angry and bitter – Oyakhilome

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

Reports indicate that the famous couple cum pastors of Love World Assembly aka Christ Embassy Church, Pastor and Mrs. Oyakhilome are having trouble in their marriage and may have already separated or a divorce is in the works. According to fresh reports from the United Kingdom -where the couple resides – members of the Christ Embassy Church over there have begun to register concerns over the absence of the wife, Rev. Anita Oyakhilome from church. Pastor Chris while addressing the pastors and Deacons of Christ Embassy in the UK was said to have declared his displeasure with the way his wife was running the UK headquarters.

He allegedly said, “I already started Christ Embassy before I married her. I didn’t marry her and said we should start Christ Embassy. I was already Pastoring. I already set my sail and knew my direction before I married her. I only said come and help me. Be careful of the friends you keep. My wife keeps friends who bring out the worst in her and help her see the worst in people instead of keeping friends that will help her vision especially as the wife of a global pastor like me. Bitterness is prolonged and accumulated anger. My wife is always angry and bitter. Allegations are either false or twisted information. The current situation is not as a result of what I did or what I didn’t do. I didn’t do anything to have caused an upheaval. You don’t join a woman to fight her husband. I’m not teaching you what is wrong, at least I have 2 girls who will one day marry and I want to them to enjoy it.”

Is Pastor Chris & Anita Oyakhilome’s Marriage in Trouble? Concerned Church Members Create Facebook Page Insinuating it is!

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 2 Second
Pastor Chris And His Wife Anita

There seems to be a very big storm brewing within Christ Embassy Church. Earlier on in January this year, there was news that popular man of God, who also serves as the President of Believers' Love World Incorporated aka Christ Embassy, Pastor Chris Oyakhilome has relocated to Johannesburg in South Africa. While his wife is based in the UK.

According to sources close to the stylish and urbane pastor, he had relocated to South Africa ‘to further spread the gospel of Christ and win more souls for the Kingdom of God.’ That this was an agreement reached by the couple and it does not affect their relationship contrary to some media reports sometime ago that they were about to divorce. A source had said:

You know they are both servants of God and it would be counter-productive for them to stay in one country as this would not help the spread of the gospel. That was why they agreed to stay in different countries so that they could get across to as many people as possible in their different locations and the feedback has been great”.

But according to posts made on a new Facebook page created by some concerned Christ Embassy members, there's more to Pastors Chris & Anita separation and living in 2 countries!

They say Pastor Chris, recently, has never been never spotted with his wife by his side – not during ministry conferences, not during conferences by other ministers and NEVER during the monthly communion service transmitted live from a TV studio.

Meanwhile other high ranking women in the ministry close to Pastor. Chris always travel with him and are seen around him. That Rev Anita has not been seen in church since January 2014 and Pastor Chris does not find it fit to address his congregation who support him with so much money.

The Facebook page was created on May 10th and the page admin swears their sole objective is not to cast doubts, spread false stories about the Pastors of God but that this is a Call to Prayer for all believers who understand God's heart concerning marriage and a Call to Action for Pastor Chris to do what he preaches!

Chibok girls: 90% of protesters are APC members, says Maku

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 32 Second

The Minister of Information, Mr. Labaran Maku, on Wednesday alleged that about 90 per cent of protesters campaigning for the release of the over 200 schoolgirls abducted from Chibok, Borno State, are members of the All Progressives Congress.

He also said that President Goodluck Jonathan had performed miracle with the achievements recorded by his administration in three years.

He said the President deserved commendation because the feats were achieved despite the fact that no Nigerian leader had faced the kind of challenges he was facing now.

Maku said this while answering questions from State House correspondents after the weekly Federal Executive Council meeting presided over by Jonathan.

The minister also took a swipe at the APC, saying a lot of the nation’s resources were being spent by the Federal Government on insecurity in states controlled by the party.

This notwithstanding, he alleged that about 90 per cent of protesters campaigning for the release of the over 200 schoolgirls were members of the APC.

He said, “The entire money we are spending is to maintain security in states controlled by that party. So why do you come back and start playing politics?

“We are busy spending money to maintain security in those states, what have they done about it? Because 90 per cent of all insurgency is in states controlled by that party, 90 per cent of those campaigning to bring back Chibok girls are members of that party.

“I think that honestly if we want this country to grow, we must ask the relevant questions. The Chibok girls remain our number one priority, we will never sleep, we will not rest until God brings them out.

“The Federal Government is a fire fighter. We did not create this insurgence or the structure that led to them, you know where they came from but you are now blaming the fire fighter for the fire.”

The minister said after reviewing the performance of the first implementation plan of Vision 20:2020, the council returned a verdict that the country was on the right course under Jonathan.

“We believe that the President needs to be congratulated and we did so because we believe what he has done in the last three years is a miracle if we look at the challenges, clear bottlenecks that were placed on his path by some of us the citizens of this country,” he said.

Maku said it was clear that Nigeria under Jonathan had done better than most countries in Africa despite the challenges confronting the nation.

He insisted that the killings, kidnappings and vandalism being recorded in parts of the country were planned to frustrate Jonathan and his administration.

Despite these, however, Maku said the President had been able to improve the nation’s economy with his various reforms.

He said after deliberating on the achievements and challenges of the vision between 2010 and 2013, the council returned the document to the Ministry of National Planning to rework some issues raised.

Sanusi lied about $49.8bn missing money – Senate committee

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 30 Second

The Senate Committee on Finance on Wednesday described as untrue allegations by the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, Mallam Lamido Sanusi, that $49.8bn was missing from the Federation Account.

The committee, led by Senator Ahmed Makarfi, which submitted its report also said the total crude oil lifting from January 2012 to July 2013 was $67bn and not $65bn as claimed by Sanusi.

Sanusi had written President Goodluck Jonathan alleging that the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation had failed to remit $49.8bn, being part of the income it generated from the sale of crude oil to the Federation Account.

But the committee stated that all the agencies, which made presentations to it, agreed after reconciliation that $47bn out of the $67bn had been credited to the Federation Account, leaving only $20bn yet to be accounted for.

It added that the $5.254bn spent on subsidy for Premium Motor Spirit by the Petroleum Products Pricing and Regulatory Agency, which was part of the $20bn, was covered by the Appropriation Acts of 2012 and 2013.

It, however, said that $3.512bn for kerosene subsidy certified by PPPRA for the period January 2012 to July 2013 was not appropriated for by the National Assembly.

The committee, therefore, asked the management of the NNPC to refund $262m to the Federation Account, being the expenses it could not satisfactorily defend during the just concluded probe of the alleged missing $49.8bn.

It also asked the corporation to remit the balance of $218m out of the $2.4bn third party financing, out of which the share of the Federation Account was $1.58bn.

It also recommended the complete stoppage of the subsidy regime in the country.

The $262m, which the NNPC was asked to refund, was in respect of holding strategic stock reserve, pipeline maintenance and management cost, and capital expenditure.

The committee stated in the report, “There is the need for the subsidy regime to be totally discontinued with. All stakeholders, however, should be consulted and carried along as much as possible before abolishing the subsidy.”

It further noted that royalties and taxes amounting to $447.8m, being outstanding from the Federation Account share from the $6.815bn listings by the NNPC on behalf of the NPDC, remained unremitted

It also noted that gross lifting under the third party financing arrangement was $2.4bn, out of which the share for Federation Account was $1.588bn

“The Attorney-General of the Federation confirmed and gave documentary evidence showing the sum of $1,370,172,650.36 was remitted to the Federation Account,” the report stated.

The committee, therefore, recommended that the NNPC should remit the balance of $218,069,354.32 to the Federation Account

“The NNPC should refund and remit to the Federation Account the sum of $262m, being expenses it could not satisfactorily defend of holding strategic stock reserve; pipeline maintenance and management cost and capital expenditure,” it stated.

It said that further legislative action by the Senate should be taken after the receipt of the forensic audit being undertaken at the NNPC by the Auditor-General for the Federation and auditors.

It asked the NNPC not pay for its operational expenditures directly from the federation’s funds without appropriation by the National Assembly and that the corporation should strictly adhere to international best practices in keeping records.

Other recommendations are: “That the NNPC should not control the revenue account of the NPDC in order not to undermine its separate legal status and make accountability more difficult.

“That average number of days taken to discharge a vessel load of 33 and a half days as against the expected one and a half days resulting in $207.8m demurrage.

“The committee could not see how the figure of $49.8bn was arrived at by the CBN governor in the first instance.

“That the CBN governor at the first hearing had forwarded the figure of $12bn as money to be reconciled and changed his position to $20bn at subsequent hearings.

“At the conclusion of his written submission, Sanusi posited that it could be $20bn, $12bn, $10.8bn or anything in between.

“The CBN governor orally or in writing never outright submitted that money was missing but that money was not remitted to the Federation Account by the NNPC.”

The committee also recommended that President Goodluck Jonathan should prepare and present to the National Assembly a supplementary budget to cover the over-expenditure in the sum of N90.693bn for PMS subsidy for 2012.

It also said the sum of N685.910bn for kerosene subsidy expended without appropriation by the National Assembly in 2012 and 2013 should also be covered by the supplementary budget.

The committee observed that there was lack of proper and adequate coordination between key agencies of the government such as Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Petroleum Resources, the CBN, NNPC, Department of Petroleum Resources, and Federal Inland Revenue Service.

It noted that the issue of non-remittance of oil revenue was not new and that it was the not the CBN governor that first discovered it, adding that it had been a recurring issue at the monthly Federation Account Allocation Committee meetings.

The committee, however, stated that it could not see how the figure of $49.8bn was arrived at by the CBN in the first instance.

Shape, colour of political opposition (1999 to 2014)

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 51 Second
FIFTEEN years ago, precisely on May 29, 1999 General Abdulsalami Abubakar supervised the transition that heralded the Fourth Republic which made the former military leader Olusegun Obasanjo the new president.
Suffice it to say that out of the many political associations that evolved at that time, the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, stood out save at the regional levels where the Alliance for Democracy, AD, and the then All Peoples Party, APP, enjoyed ethnic support.

However, today, the ruling People’s Democratic Party, PDP, faces its biggest threat in 15 years, after a newly formed opposition coalition was given the green light to contest the presidential election due next year.
On July 31st, 2013 the electoral authority approved the merger of the three leading opposition parties—the Action Congress of Nigeria, ACN, the All Nigeria People’s Party and the Congress of Progressive Change, CPC. The All Progressive Congress, APC, as the new mega-party is known, will face a weakened PDP, which has held power since Nigeria’s return to civilian rule in 1999.
The merger is the most committed effort to date by the opposition to form a united front. In theory, power is within reach.

To give credence to the assertion, President Goodluck Jonathan, has inspired little confidence since taking the reins in 2010. He has struggled to contain an Islamist insurgency in the north and oil theft is at an all-time high: $10.9 billion has been lost to oil pilfering in two years, with senior government officials rumoured to be involved.
He also has problems within his party, which has shown signs of stress for close to a year now. In-party squabbling indicates that some in the PDP do not want the president to run again in 2015.
That is to say the history of Nigeria’s political dispensation is replete with weak opposition that over the years could not engender any positive change.
Coupled with rampant corruption, nepotism, insincerity, and ethnic bias, the political class had been overwhelmed by elements bereft of viable political ideology to anchor the nations’ political future and offer a desired constructive opposition.
In fact, many believe that Nigeria at best can boast of compromised opposition parties who for material benefit have long abandoned their traditional role as peoples watchdog, ensuring checks and balances on the ruling government and resorted to scouting for pecks of office.
That also explains why in Nigeria individuals that constitute the opposition view it as an opportunity to warm themselves into the heart of the ruling party for recognition.
Indeed, Nigeria’s opposition parties seem to have no plans, no programmes, no value added and lack credibility to challenge unpopular government policies.
It goes without saying, therefore, that bankruptcy in ideology and vision reduced party politics in Nigeria to bread and butter game. Monetisation of the political process has become the bedrock of loyalty and support, a situation that erodes the objective of the democratic process anchored on supremacy of popular will.
Even when members of the political class in realisation of their lame-duck approach to opposition initiated the Conference of Nigerian Political Parties, CNPP, Nigerians welcomed the move as the most robust in the nation’s history of political opposition devoid of ethnic, elitist and parochial sentiments.
But that was not to be. Allegations mounted that some CNPP leaders compromised their positions for material benefits in form of physical cash or juicy appointments from the ruling parties in their states.
Unlike the first and second republics when ethnicity dictated the actions of the AG and UPN opposition, the present democracy, though better in ethnic orientation has suffered severe degradation owing to inability of the political class to adhere to the rules of the game. Apart from the ACN with some remarkable efforts, genuine opposition seems to be missing in action in Nigeria.
Apparently, the tragedy of the opposition in Nigeria presently, is that there is no difference in party ideology and structure between the PDP and the so-called opposition. By all intent and purposes they are the same and therefore considered as really not having much to offer.
The opposition parties should cease to bemoan their fate and blaming their dismal electoral outing and concentrate on being resourceful and proactive in strategic politicking.
Previous attempts to rally the opposition against the PDP have failed amid infighting and the competing ambitions of party leaders. The success of the new coalition will depend on its big personalities being able to put their egos aside and carefully choose a presidential candidate.
The ACN, a Yoruba-majority party with roots in the south-west, and the northern, Muslim-dominated CPC may seem like unlikely bedfellows, but they may be able to choose a candidate with broad national appeal, something which has eluded opposition parties in the past. Some believe they may put forward a northern Muslim, with a Christian running mate from the oil-producing south.
That would appease northern governors who believe that the president broke an unwritten agreement to rotate power between the largely Muslim north and Christian south when he ran for president in 2011.
If the opposition can stand strong and rally enough support in areas where the ruling party is losing strength, it could be a hotly contested election.
A strong opposition is exactly what Nigeria needs to move its democracy forward. The new mega-party still needs to come up with a more persuasive message to voters: it currently offers familiar faces repeating well-worn lines about bringing corruption and insecurity to an end and creating jobs.
If the coalition breaks up, Goodluck may ease to victory. Nonetheless, as long as the opposition is united, the PDP will at last face a run for its money.

Ogun APC crisis: Osoba, others host loyalists

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 22 Second
ABEOKUTA—For the second time in a month, former governor of Ogun State and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Chief Olusegun Osoba and some party chieftains will today hold a consultative meeting with his loyalists on the crisis rocking the ruling party in Ogun State.

Osoba had early this month upon his arrival from London, met with his supporters and for the first time since the APC in the state conducted parallel congresses, opened up on the crisis in the ruling party.
The former governor had also used the occasion to clear the air about certain allegations leveled against him by Governor Ibikunle Amosun and his supporters.
The parallel congresses had produced two State Executive Committees of the party with either of them loyal to the governor and Osoba, respectively.
Vanguard gathered that during today’s consultative meeting, Osoba, other party leaders and his supporters would review the last APC National Executive Committee, NEC, meeting in Abuja where the issue of the parallel congresses conducted in the state was discussed.
The Osoba group is also expected to reach a consensus today on the next line of action pending the action of the committee set up by the APC NEC to look into the parallel congresses conducted by the party in the state.
The consultative meeting is also expected to serve as a platform for the APC leader to react to recent claims by Governor Amosun that he had done so much to please him.
The State Publicity Secretary of the Osoba faction of the APC, Clement Adeniyi confirmed today’s consultative meeting with the frmer governor.
