“Balotelli is my boy and I am dating his sister” – Obafemi Martins

Read Time:1 Minute, 28 Second

For a while now, the rumour mills have continued churning out stories, insisting that there were strings attached between Obafemi Martins and Mario Balotelli’s elder sister, Abigail.

The pair had been spotted together in at different locations, with love clearly in their eyes and the Levante frontman has finally confirmed that they are having an affair.

He also insisted that the erratic Manchester City forward, had no qualms about him seeing his sister, as they have a good relationship dating from their time together at Inter Milan.

“Mario is my boy. The respect is there because I used to play at Inter, in the youth team with him. He’s giving me my respect and I’m doing same. People are putting it in the news that he’s upset, of course he’s glad,” he said.

“He’s glad that Obafemi Martins is dating his sister. But if he gets jealous then it means he doesn’t want his sister to grow. But it’s not like that. The boy is not a bad boy.

Martins, who was recently dropped from the Nigerian squad to the Nations Cup, however insisted that marriage is not on the agenda yet.

He said: “The relationship is true but getting married or not, we haven’t discussed anything like that. She’s upstairs and we’re happy together.”

24-year-old Abigail, had earler told the The Sun in an interview in April that she couldn’t date a footballer.

“Mario wouldn’t let me anyway. He knows only too well what they are like. They are surrounded by women. Girls throw themselves at them,” she said.

GEJ says people are killed by their attitude

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 18 Second

The remains of General Andrew Azazi was on Saturday buried at Heroes Park in Yenagoa, Bayelsa State.

Azazi, a four star General, retired from service on 20th August 2008 and was appointed National Security Adviser on October 2010.

He was killed in a helicopter crash alongside Governor Patrick Yakowa of Kaduna and four others while returning from the burial ceremony of
the father of Oronto Douglas, an aide to President Jonathan.

The burial was preceded by a service led by Bishop of Bomadi Vicariate His Lordship, Most Revd Hyacinth Egbeboh.

During the service, Mrs. Akpolade Okora-Azazi read the first lesson and Owoye Azazi read the second lesson.

The corpse of the late warlord was conveyed to the grave side by a Naval Ambulance at about 3.20 pm. It was then lowered into the marble
grave by a team of military officers after observing the last salute and military honours of gun shots.

President Goodluck Jonathan in his speech called for attitudinal change among Nigerians for things to work and the country to make  progress, noting that corruption was not the only challenge to good governance.

He said this while reacting to a statement made by Rev. Hyacinth Egbebo. The clergyman had attributed the cause of accidents on Nigerian roads to bad roads created by corruption in government.

The president said, “If Nigerians would change their attitude, you will realise that most of these issues being attributed to corruption  are not caused by corruption. Recently, I met with officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps who told me that they had discovered that
majority of the road accidents are recorded on good roads.”

“So you can see it is not a matter of corruption, it is an issue of the people’s attitude.”

He described the late General as a “detribalised Nigerian, who believed in merit and competence,” adding that “If 50 per cent of Nigerians would behave like the late Azazi, believe me, this country will change for the better. I had no regret when I appointed him as my national security adviser, he was a good Nigerian.”

On his part Governor Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa, said Nigeria has lost one of its finest military officers. He said the State Government will liaise with military authorities to institute an endowment fund to select best officers of the force in memory of the late General.

Others who spoke at the service are the Chief of Army Staff. General Ihejirika Azubike, Mr. Rotimi Ameachi Governor of Rivers state who  said a popular street in Port Harcourt would be to be named after Azazi; former Bayelsa Governor, Chief DSP Alamieyeseigha and President of the Christian Association of Nigeria Pastor Ayo Oritsejafor.

Read Time:1 Minute, 20 Second

The Basilica of the Most Holy Trinity Cathedral Onitsha, Anambra State, yesterday played host to well-wishers, on a thanksgiving mass for the respected Cardinal Francis Arinze on the occasion of his 80th birthday.

From the record of the event, the day could not have been more joyous for a man once widely regarded as the first black man likely to become
Pope.

The auditorium was filled to capacity, with many more on the exterior, as thousands of devotees came out to honour the priest.

In his homily, a former President of the Christian Association of Nigeria and recently ordained Cardinal John Onaiyekan, said Arinze’s 80 years on earth was dedicated to the service of humanity and God at different levels, locally and internationally.

He said the Catholic Church is a “clear voice of authentic Christian tradition” and was proud to have Arinze as the “indefatigable bearer of that voice.”

The highlight of the event was the reading of the goodwill message of Pope Benedict XVI by the Catholic Bishop of Nnewi, Hilary Okeke.

The Pope thanked Cardinal Arinze for his dedicated service to God and the Church and prayed for God’s grace upon him.

In his speech, Anambra State Governor Peter Obi, who is equally a Catholic described Cardinal Arinze as a “gift of God to humanity”. He called on
younger priests to emulate the apostolic zeal of the clergyman.

He added that his government would seek further areas of cooperation with the Church in a partnership intended to make Anambra State a
better place in terms of human development.

Nigeria: We watched our kids roast to death like goats

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 51 Second

Despite the fact that some weeks have passed since the fire disaster that wiped out five children of Mr. & Mrs. Augustine Ikwuagwu on Comfort Oboh Street, Kirikiri Town, Lagos, its bitter memory still lingers. Indeed, the tragedy has been a nightmare to the couple. When Saturday Sun met with the couple recently, pain and agony have overwhelmed them, as they recounted their loss.

Speaking amid tears, Mrs Margaret Ikwuagwu, said her fine kids, Chukwuemeka (13), Ifeanyichukwu (10), Bright (8), Joy (6) and Victoria (4) were sleeping in the house when the incident started at 10pm. She said that all efforts to rescue the children failed. “I asked my children to go and sleep in the room while I was preparing to close shop for the day.

Then, shortly, someone ran to tell me that our house was on fire. I abandoned everything I was doing and ran down to the house. When I got there, the fire had already covered the whole place and I could not enter my room to rescue my children,” she said. Mrs Ikwuagwu explained that she cried for help, but no one came to her aid. “When I got there, I met a mammoth. My co-tenants were busy removing their children and property.

They started the rescue as soon as the fire broke out, but never bothered to inform me that our house was on fire. I tried to rescue our children, but I could not because the fire had covered our room. I heard the voices of my children shouting. But could not save the situation. I cried for help, but no one assisted me. “I forced myself inside the room when I heard my children crying for help, with the hope that I would bring out at least one or two, but I ended up being burnt by fire; so I ran out.” The woman revealed that as she was shouting, her husband arrived at the scene. Continue after the cut…

“When my husband arrived, we joined hands to rescue our children. He pushed the door, but the fire was too much; he tried to force himself through the window; yet he did not succeed. We called our children, but they did not answer us. When we tried and saw that there was no hope again, we fainted, having watched our five children, cash and other property ruined by fire. We were rushed to the hospital immediately and did not know what happened later,” she stated.

Mrs. Ikwuagwu stated that it was after some hours that she and her husband recovered from the shock. “When we recovered, we were asked to come to Kirikiri Police Station to make statement. Thereafter, we were asked to come and take our children for burial. So, we went to bury them at Trinity Cemetery, Olodi Apapa.” She revealed that before the fire disaster, her family had planned to travel home on December 22 for Christmas. “I do not know why this thing happened to us.

Why should our five children go like that? We were preparing to travel home on December 22 for Christmas. Now here we are. Where do we start and how far do I go from here? I know that it was not an ordinary fire. But, however, God will take control of the whole thing,” she lamented. Narrating what happened, Mr. Augustine Ikwuagwu, popularly known as Osuofia, said that when he arrived he tried his best to rescue the children, regretting that the fire had already taken over the entire compound.

He said: “On December 12, I went to my wife’s shop and saw my children sleeping and I asked my wife to take them home, which she did. We did not lock the children inside the house, as people are saying, rather. Our 12-year-old son, Chukwuemeka, took them home, and when the fire started, no one cared to call us and as a result, our children got burnt to death. We have three male and two female children and they died same day.

As it is, I have no house, no property and no child. People are saying that we locked the children inside the room and lighted a candle, but I am telling you that we did not lock them inside and we did not use candle at all; what we use was rechargeable lamp.” He also stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be known. “We are still surprised about how the fire started and up till this moment, we have not been able to know the cause of the fire. But God has the answer,” he stated. Mr. Ikwuagwu said the fact that they watched their five children suffer and died in the fire was the worst thing that has happened to him and his wife.

“I wanted to kill myself because I do not know where I am going from here. I do not think, I can cope because my entire life struggles are gone. After five children, we have decided not to bear children again. But now, we are starting again,” he lamented. He stated that since the incident, life has not been easy for his family, revealing that he and his wife are still receiving treatment in the hospital. “It has not been easy for us since then.

We have no child, shelter, clothes, money and property. Also, we have not recovered from the shock. So, anyone who knows what it takes to lose five children and everything should please assist us to come back to life. My wife’s spirit has gone down; she has been thinking of how to get another child,” Ikwuagwu lamented.

Nigeria: There is evil force among security agents

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 12 Second

The scholar, known for his outspokenness, posted this comment on his facebook page. He was reacting to the cordon and search operation carried out by combined security forces at Rigasa, Kaduna State on Thursday.

Mr. Gumi also faulted the army’s decision to demolish the houses of suspected terrorists after conducting their operations, saying there was no need for that.

“Why is the need to demolish homes when they should be forensic evidences in a court of law?”

“The point is that there is an evil force in the security hiding behind the mask committing all crimes against humanity in the name of fighting terror,” he alleged.

On the post, the scholar, apparently referring to the security agents, said he believes that anyone who kills an innocent life will not go unpunished.

“That is why Maj. Nzeogwu, Maj. Dimka, Brig. Bisalla, Gen. Azazi etc. didn’t live to enjoy their lives,”

“So will also be the end of those that shed people’s blood to stay afloat! May Allah Guide us all and protect us from all Evil, amen,” he said on his facebook page.

He lamented that many Christians and church goers have been victims of various terror acts, committed by terror groups as Boko Haram.

“We have unequivocally condemned it as un-Islamic quoting copiously from the Quran and the Hadith in previous sermons,” he said.
