Zimbabweans, Wendall needs your vote

Read Time:2 Minute, 14 Second

With only two days to go before the grand finale of Big Brother Amplified, one of Zimbabwe’s tourism ambassadors and former Miss Tourism Zimbabwe, Vanessa Sibanda, is drumming up support for Zimbabwe’s remaining housemate – Wendall.

The South African-based model, made her passionate appeal to Zimbabwe through Facebook on Wednesday and immediately got an overwhelming response.

In her message, Queen Vee said she would be so thrilled if Wendall clinches the coveted prize.

“Wendall needs votes to win BBA, I would be so thrilled if he wins . . . Zim needs to win BBA this time,” she tagged.

She immediately got a response from one Sir Valentine Chadyiwa Sean, who reiterated the need to vote for the brother.

“Let’s vote guys”

While there were several supporting comments, a number of snides also popped up saying, there was no way Wendall would win because of the conspiracy theory surrounding the BBA, that has given Nigeria a competitive edge against other contesting nations.

There were, of course, others who thought Wendall stands to benefit more if he loses.

“He stands a better chance if he loses…THREE HUNDRED GRAND. . . PEOPLE!!! . . . and u get to meet the President! . . .” posted Simba the Comic King .

Zimbabwe will on Sunday wait with bated breath to see if our wonder boy will bring the prize money home for the first time since the reality show was introduced to the region some six years ago.

Should he fail to make it to the top, we will also know that the trump card was pitted against him, right from the onset in favour of Nigeria, that we have all come to know as the “preferred brand of M-Net” because of its subscriber base.

We have all come to know that no matter how much Africa votes, the Nigerian vote is crucial to any result, making the whole show, nothing but just a “Nigerian affair”.

The current season of Big Brother Amplified has already set new records for voting, thanks to ongoing audience participation.

Last week, over 1,4 million votes were logged, the highest of any Big Brother Africa voting period.

In addition, this current season has already achieved the highest cumulative total of any Big Brother edition, a total of 6,3 million votes.

With voting for the final already in progress, total vote numbers look set for a new record.

So with just two days to go, audiences are encouraged to vote for their favourite housemates.

Only you can decide which two winners go home with the big prize!

Competing for this year’s big prizes are – Hanni (Ethiopia), Karen (Nigeria), Lomwe (Malawi), Luclay (South Africa), Sharon O (Uganda), Vina (Nigeria) and Wendall (Zimbabwe).

Dating two guys? No regrets for …as Vimbai apologises to Zambia

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 38 Second

EVICTED Zambian housemate Kim the last hopeful for the country, says her experience in the Big Brother House can be described as “an amazing rollercoaster of life.”

Kim told the Times Entertainment via a telephone chat from South Africa recently that she is happy to be exposed to a major reality show like the Big Brother Amplified where she learnt immensely from other nationals.

Kim says she had her fun in the house and her being attracted to two men is something that could have happened even when she was out of the house.

“In fact I am glad to have been connected to these two guys Lomwe and Nic who I plan to meet after the show. I don’t regret it because that’s me and that’s how I live my life,” says the Zambian beautician.

Kim feels there is no episode in the entire journey that she would record as relatable because she did what she did with her free and real mind.

When asked about her everlasting beef with Nigeria’s Karen, Kim says the Nigerian model did not like her from the first day she was ushered into the Big Brother House.

“I tried my best to stay away from her but she could always find a way of provoking me.

“What hurt me most is someone telling me what my mother should have done to raise me or God to have changed some features on me,” said the Zambian diva.

Funny enough on regrets, Kim says the only thing she regrets is not eating enough while in the house and that she has lost some weight.

On whom she thinks would be the best recipient of the Big Brother Amplified ultimate prize; Kim put her money on the gorgeous Ugandan musician Sharon O.

Taken a little bit aback on the life she led with her fellow Zambian housemate that was clearly not sound, Kim confessed that she was not the best of friends with Mumba but would always run to her when faced with challenges and the two would compare notes.

And Kim sobbed on the phone when she learnt about the demise of second Republican president Dr Fredrick Chiluba.

We were almost forced to terminate the chat as Kim became emotional and literally short of words and searching for what to say.

“No….no…What… you mean no one could tell me… when did it happen? Kim asked with a trembling voice.

Kim says she is shocked and saddened by the death of Dr Chiluba and that her wish is to be allowed to visit the widow Regina to pay her last respect to the man who she described as the president of her era.

Meanwhile, Zimbabwean housemate who coined Mumba’s eviction, Vimbai has apologised to Mumba and Zambia for the action she took whilst at the helm of the house.

Vimbai justifies her action as mere pressure that goes with the head of the house task and that she had to make that swap based on Mumba’s clean record.

I thought Mumba was the only housemate who had not been nominated and believe me I did not do that based on a country bias but thought that she would pull through.

Vimbai says Zambia should not look at the mistake she made and pay back by not supporting Wendall.

She says Wendall did not in any way help her make that swap.

“I would like to apologise once again to Zambia for what I did because I know this feels like the worst betrayal by a sister nation.

“But trust me I have nothing against Zambia as a nation or Mumba as an individual who I can describe as mature God fearing and highly principled person,” claims Vimbai.

And Kenya’s evicted housemate Millicent who lured the live eviction audience with her short dresses that fitted well on her curvy structured body says the world of acting is calling her.

She says with the celebrity status earned in the Amplified House, she is sure that she will star in most of the African film productions.

“I am the only Kenyan so far who has acted in Nollywood with the likes of Mike Ozorunye, so now I want to take my profession to another level,” says Millicent.

When asked about the 12-week Big Brother Amplified experience, Millicent says it is one of the platforms that have helped her see a bigger picture of the world.

The Kenyan actress says she would not forget though the worst moment she had at the hands of evicted flamboyant Angolan model Weza.

She says it was hard to believe that Weza could call someone a witch and at the same time spread lies about her (Millicent).

Millicent also complained of Karen’s behaviour of always wanting others to accept her the way she is but refuses to do that unto others. She cited the beef that had been there between Karen and Kim.

Millicent said Karen always thought and wanted to be on the right side.

Well, well, well, the Amplified house is now ablaze with exactly five days before the mighty Big Brother walls crumble to expose two amplified winners who will walk home with US$200,000 each, the last minute action and drama on DStv channel 198 is what you can’t afford to miss.

Be amplified and keep voting for your favourite housemate.

Big Brother Amplified, PRESS PLAY!

Wizkid, Fally Ipupa, Cpwaa and others for Big Brother Amplified finale

Read Time:2 Minute, 21 Second

M-Net has revealed a star-studded line-up for the dramatic two-hour finale of Big Brother Amplified, during which two winners, chosen by the public, will each walk away USD 200 000 richer.

In addition to the finale including the biggest prize in the history of the show, it will also welcome the talents of six of Africa’s hottest performers – the incredible Fally Ipupa from the DRC, Nigeria’s sensational WizKid and Mo’Cheddah, South Africa’s Professor and Speedy, plus Tanzania’s Cpwaa. Joining them on stage will be all the previously evicted Big Brother Amplified housemates and the Big Brother Amplified dance crew, whose fast routines and smooth dance moves have won the hearts of fans continent-wide. DJ Black from Ghana will also man the decks as well as play at the after party.

“We’re going all out to amplify the finale!” says M-Net Africa Managing Director Biola Alabi. “In addition to these great performers, there’s going to be one really magic moment when it becomes clear to the final housemates that this year, there are two prizes. We know, our audiences know but the housemates competing for the big prize don’t know this as yet – and I can only imagine their shock and delight when they find out that there are TWO prizes of USD 200 000!”

Meanwhile, the current season of Big Brother Amplified has already set new records for voting, thanks to ongoing audience participation. Arguably the most successful season of Big Brother yet, Big Brother Amplified has been jam-packed with entertainment, drama and non-stop action from the moment the 26 housemates met on Sunday May 1. Triumphs and tantrums, romance and rivalry, friendships and feuds, the housemates have laughed, cried, bonded, argued and danced their way through a 91 day reality TV adventure, screened live continent-wide on DStv.

Big Brother Amplified Proves That Africa Is Not Inherently Racist

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 48 Second

While South Africa might be going through one of its worst periods of polarisation in its post-apartheid history the people of Africa have done us proud.

Big Brother Amplified is all the proof that you’ll ever need to demonstrate that in general when Africa supported the end of apartheid it was not to bring in black racism but rather to see that equality for all is realised.

In what I can only describe as the most refreshing recent development on the planet – in a free and fair poll if I may use the term to describe the voting as such – the single white competitor has been backed by entire African countries to continue on the show.

In order to be “saved” BBA asks individual countries to vote for the eviction of competitors. When they tally votes it is how many countries voted for contestants not individuals.

This means that African countries, with overwhelmingly black populations, are voting for a white participant from Zimbabwe.

That Africans – when left to their own devices – are genuinely non-racist.

In Norway we have witnessed a right wing lunatic killing people simply to demonstrate that Muslims are no longer acceptable in his country while almost every day Islamic extremists are blowing up people who don’t conform to their beliefs.

Against that backdrop in an “election” where politicians aren’t involved Africa comes out and shows its true colours and they are of the rainbow.

It is time that South Africa joins the bulk of African countries in looking at individuals rather than race as the basis for making judgements and decisions.

The fact that the oldest liberation movement – the African National Congress – and world icon Nelson Mandela find their home here makes xenophobia and racist garbage all the more inexplicable and totally unacceptable.

Africa you are doing us proud – South Africans start learning from the rest of Africa.

Uncle Bob excluded I’m afraid.

BBA in Egoli: 9ija’s Karen, MW’s Lomwe, SA’s Luclay tipped to win

0 0
Read Time:2 Minute, 33 Second

After 91 days of laughs, fights and tears, Big Brother is ready to dish out $200, 000 each to two winners, MaraPost’s Derek Mapondera sizes up the finalists

BLANTYRE—It’s bitterly cold in Egoli, South Africa but the temperature is slowly but surely rising in the Big Brother Amplified (BBA) house as contenders and millions of viewers across Africa countdown to D-day: July 31.

The question everyone is asking is: Who will be the two winners of $200, 000 each?

The answer lies in three of the seven housemates – Wendall, Karen, Lomwe, Vina, Hanni, Luclay and  Sharon O – who have made it to the finals. Even if one doesn’t win the 200 grand, there will be a consolation prize of $10, 000 for each finalist.

There are three housemates viewers are willing to bet their money on. They are Karen of Naija, Luclay of South Africa and Lomwe of Malawi

“The three seem to have been the most entertaining,” said a Chinyonga resident, Dominique, in Blantyre.

The highly-temperamental Karen, who had some angry verbal fights with Luclay, is tipped to win the first $200, 000.

But Karen will have to attract more votes because she is competing with “black cat” Vina, also from Nigeria. Will Vina split the vote for Karen?

This is one of the firsts as two housemates from one country, Nigeria, have reached the finals and will have to share the votes.

Vina has been head of the house twice, including last week when she famously or infamously – depends on how you look at it – swapped Karen for Lomwe but the Malawian survived the eviction.

The seemingly no-nonsense Luclay has been consistent and seems to be Africa’s favourite. An actor by profession, he, like Karen, brought his A-game to the show staged in his homeland. This is the first time a South African has reached the paid ranks and Luclay will need strong support from home to carry him over the finish line.

Malawi’s Lomwe has been popular with the girls in the house. He went to the horn of Africa and turned his charm on Ethiopia’s Hanni but it didn’t seem to have its full effect. But with the patience of a fisherman, the ladies’ man’s spell did catch Kim from neighbouring Zambia and the two redefined what it means to be neighbours. They were seen kissing on the show.

Lomwe is the second Malawian to reach the finals, after Hazel Warren who actually tied with Angolan Rico who eventually won the ultimate prize.

The two housemates who will pocket the $200, 000 each will have to collect the most country votes.

The BBA show ends Sunday after the housemates were locked in the house for three months in the golden city, Johannesburg, South Africa, the sixth time the organisers staged Big Brother in Africa.

Watch this space for what happens next.–maravipost

Big Brother Amplified – Who Will Be the Winner?!

0 0
Read Time:4 Minute, 59 Second

Today we feature a guest columnist from TVSA, Prudence Mathebula. Prudence blogs for the South African-based TVSA (tvsa.co.za) as Pruluv. Her views on housemates, their chances, and the Naija ‘factor’ do not necessarily reflect those of The Namibian’s Big Brother writers! Enjoy …

With seven housemates left and a few days to go before the Big Brother Amplified finale, it’s becoming almost apparent who’s taking the moola home …I still don’t understand why Wendall and Hanni are still in the game. Really Actually, rather them than Vimbai ‘the Vampire’, not too sure about Kim ‘the Skank’. Now Vina can jump Lomwe’s bones lol.

Anywhoo

Let’s look at the likelihood of who’s taking the US$400 000 (US$200 000 x 2) grand prize home.

Karen 100%

Big Brother Amplified could easily be renamed to Big Brother Karen, because she defines Amplified. I thought Tatiana and Richard were the craziest Big Brother housemates until we were introduced to Karen, who is simply epic. She’s one person who manages to rub everyone up the wrong way, nag them to forgive her, then befriend them all over again. However, I doubt the bouncer has a soft spot for her, particularly after what she does to him after the Saturday night parties. Her chat room sessions are the best. She would walk in crying, smile mid-session then leave in laughter. She’s remained consistent in her MADness and deserves to win the US$200 000. If she doesn’t win, then we’ll know the money went to Julius Malema’s Trust Fund

Luclay 80%

As much as I would love to fully support him, he just has a way of irritating everyone, the viewers included. Agreed he’s a good actor, but enough with the Muvhango drama. Whenever he wears his hat as Mr Otono, he’s very entertaining. Then somehow he just goes overboard. Ask Lotus and Karen, they’ll testify that brother man can go too far. I truly believe he has split personalities or (is) bipolar. However, he’s played his part in the house, and for the most part he’s been really entertaining. I loved his confrontation with Mumba, who put him in his place. Hehehe

If all things go according to plan, he will share the prize money with Karen.

Don’t you think they make a perfect couple?

Vina 78%

Big Ups to Nigeria for supporting their country mates because I don’t know how Vina has made it this far. OK, fair enough, she’s smart, she’s a good dancer and has a cute smile, but Noooo man. Anyway, Vina is a woman in love with the playa, Lomwe. No matter how many times she says she doesn’t love him, the fact remains – Vina loves Lomwe, period.

I guess that’s what makes her entertaining, how she’s pushed away all the obstacles to get closer to Lomwe. Even bullying her ‘best bud’ Hanni to move over so she can get to the kill. She’s a contender for the prize simply because she’s from Naija. Apparently since Naijas are in every country, they have ‘that’ voting power. So, we might get the shock of our lives come Sunday and IK announces Vina as the other winner. We’ll have to see

Lomwe 72%

Playa! Playa! Although he’s never revealed his strategy, this guy was placed in the house to give the poor girls heartache. He’s been scouting and tried hard to get one of the girls in his bed whilst in the Heads house, without much luck. Then Taaa-da! His entry into the Tails house gave him a buffet, which saw him become Mr Casanova and sleep with Kim. Yeah they did it.

He’s obviously good looking and he knows it. Besides his womanising ways and good looks, he’s doesn’t offer much to the show. Well maybe that’s all he needs; he is after all in the final. I don’t see him winning. Naaa

Sharon O 70%

She’s very much the equivalent of Lomwe in the looks department. She’s hot and has a hot body. It’s a good thing the show is coming to an end before she gets a phuza face, although the signs are already there. She was sooo boring initially. She gained confidence after being saved a couple of times. She’s now become loud and crazy and it’s working for her, since she’s not planning on getting it down with any guy. I’ve noted that she’s got some love-nyana for Lomwe. She hasn’t brought much drama, besides making Kim feel like the ‘s’ word, when Lomwe chose her to share his glass house prize. Because of her lack of drama, I don’t see her winning the prize money.

Hanni 52%

She’s definitely not going to win. It’s just impossible. What has she done? Follow Vina everywhere. That’s about it. She’s beautiful all right. I think she’s the most beautiful lady in the house and her hairstyle this past Sunday Wow. #NoHomo.

I guess that’s what’s kept her in the game. She’s offered no entertainment, no drama, nothing. She’d make a good photo to stare at, but winning Big Brother She must forget it.

Wendall 50%

This Wendall guy’s mere existence in the final baffles me. How did it happen? Is it those biceps? I’m seriously confused. I have seen zero per cent entertainment from this guy. OK, maybe when he’s downed a couple of drinks, he’s injected with life, but it’s still not enough. Shame, he’s been trying really hard in the past two weeks, but I see him as the first one to be out on Sunday.

These are my predictions, but anything can happen.

I still maintain that if Karen doesn’t win then there’s no justice in this world.

The majority of these housemates that are in the final are proof that good looks can take you far. Far in life and far in the game. Housemates who were more entertaining have left the house because their faces didn’t cut it.

Tjo, life is just unfair

DJ Black to make a 2nd appearance at Big Brother Amplified

Read Time:2 Minute, 35 Second

Ghana’s number one DJ and host of the Open House Party on Joy FM, DJ Black known in real life as Kwadwo Ampofo has been billed to make a second appearance at the Big Brother Africa (Amplified) reality show.

The DJ’s favourite DJ, thrilled the show’s housemates and viewers on June 25 to what has been described as the best DJ to have ever rocked the show since its inception in 2003.

DJ Black will man the decks at the after party of the reality show on Sunday July 31st.

Arguably the most successful season of Big Brother yet, Big Brother Amplified has been jam-packed with entertainment, drama and non-stop action from the moment the 26 housemates met on Sunday May 1.

Big Brother Amplified: Karen & Luclay likely to win BBA

0 0
Read Time:1 Minute, 4 Second

AFTER three months of amplified fun and entertainment, the sixth Big Brother is coming to an end on Sunday with seven housemates remaining and two US$200,000 cash prizes up for grabs.

Karen, Vina, Hanni, Sharon O, Lomwe, Luclay and Wendell are all potential winners with Karen and Luclay being the people’s favourite but voting results have always been a surprise in the previous seasons.

Nevertheless, all housemates had a great season apart from Lotus who did not prove herself since she was disqualified for slapping ‘Denzel’. Karen may have secured one of the suitcases the day she put herself up for eviction. Luclay’s handsomeness could be to his advantage among the female voters, who I believe are the majority voters, but Wendall or Hanni supporters might surprise viewers with a stunt or two.

Although Namibian housemate, Jossy Joss was the first to be evicted, our girl Bernadina did us proud and remains a winner, even without the US$200,000. Karen mentioned she would share her prize money with Bernadina should she win but that too, could be a strategy.
It was fun, it was nice getting to know these different personalities, but may the best men and/or women win!

Read Time:2 Minute, 16 Second

The movie now bags twelve nominations from ZAFAA (Zulu African Film Academy Awards) in the following categories; best film, best film editing, best story, best sound editing, best child performance male, best screenplay, best cinematography, best producer, best director, best supporting actress (Gam Fatima Jabi), best lead actress (Genevieve Nnaji) and best actor (Osita Iheme). After making history with an unprecedented premiere in Empire Leicester Square in London, UK and becoming the highest selling Nollywood movie of all time to hit the Ghanaian cinemas, speculations are high that these nominations are probably the beginning of greater things for ‘Mirror Boy.

Featuring Nollywood top shots Genevieve Nnaji and Osita Iheme, ‘Mirror Boy’ is all set for its home coming premiere on August 5, 2011 at the Silverbird Galleria.

While expectations for the ‘Mirror Boy’ premiere remains high, the list of stars and celebrities expected keeps growing longer, some of which include Genevieve Nnaji, Osita iheme, … and others.

Speaking on the nominations, Obi Emelonye the producer, director and writer of the movie said, ‘what we see and hear about ‘Mirror Boy’ is not a surprise at all because a lot of thoughts and efforts went into producing the movie and the hard work I can say is paying off. Right now, we are eagerly looking forward to the arrival of the movie in Nigeria because this is ‘Mirror Boy’s origin and we are excited to see it premiere here’.

‘The Mirror Boy’ is an enthralling journey as seen through the eyes of a London- born 12 year old African boy, Tijani. After a London street fight on 13th of June, in which a local boy is hurt, Tijan’s mother decides to take him back their roots, to Gambia. On their arrival in Banjul, Tijan encounters a strange apparition, a boy smiling at him in a mirror and vanishing. Seeing the same boy in a crowded street market the next day sets in motion a chain of events, with Tijan finding himself lost. While Tijan’s panic-stricken mother struggles to find her son, Tijan is left alone in the company of the enigmatic Mirror Boy, seemingly only visible to him. A cathartic climax helps TIJANI to unravel the mystery of the MIRROR BOY. It also provides him with a rather mystical explanation for the way his life has cascaded from the 13th of June towards this inter-twined fate with a father he has never met.
