Like a breath of fresh air, a new TV channel better known as African Movie Channel berthed in Nigeria amid resounding ovation last Sunday.
The channel which started operation since 2006, in the UK, and mainly dedicated to showing of top Nollywood and African movies promises to raise the standard already set by Africa Magic, owned by Dstv.
AMC is either expected to compliment or if possible, overtake whatever Africa Magic has done for the nation’s movie industry in the past ten years.
The duo of Yinka Mayungbo and Lolu Onigbogi, owners of the new channel, said, they are in the country to make the difference with the channel.
According to them, AMC is a 24-hour linear African movies and series channel offered on various TV platform across the African continent and beyond.
“AMC is the world’s first global channel dedicated to showing of the best movies and series from the second largest motion picture industry in the world-Nigeria’s Nollywood and the best from the rest of Africa. This is the home of African movies. We carefully selected the movies to enlighten and educate the viewers. That’s what AMC is all about,” said Mayungbo.
Notable TV platform carrying AMC include Startimes in Nigeria, Kenya, Tanzania, Uganda and Mozambique, TopTV in South Afric. The launch of the channel, which held at the Oriental Hotel, Lekki, was graced by top Nollywood practitioners and actors.
