As part of efforts to ease the burden of its members and job seekers, the Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA), a professional accounting body, said it had developed a portal for the uploading of curriculum vitae (CV) for job seekers and students in Nigeria.

Speaking on the initiative in Lagos at the weekend, the Country Manager for ACCA in Nigeria, Mrs. Toyin Ademola, said the portal was basically set up as the official website of the association. According to her, the platform had already been operational in the United Kingdom and Asia.

Ademola pointed out that Nigeria “is the first country in Africa that it is being piloted in. The reason for that is that we are interested in providing job opportunities for our students and members. We are also interested in providing our employers with the kind of qualified professionals that they need. So we are concentrating right now in providing job opportunities for large number of ACCA students and members.

“So basically what we are doing is that we are offering free listing for all employers and also free CV upload for all our students. How it operates is that it is a career portal. Employers go in, they put up the vacancies that they have there. Sometimes employers would also go into the system to look for CVs they think match the vacancies that they want. We are doing all these for free in Nigeria,” the ACCA Nigeria boss said.

Ademola stressed that the choice of Nigeria in the continent showed the importance of the country, saying that it gives Nigerian students the opportunity for their CVs to be seen not only by employers in the country, but also globally.

She added: “The way it works is on the portal, each country has its own site, so somebody in Asia or Malaysia can easily go to the Nigerian site and look at the CVs and if they feel that the person is qualified, they will actually call the person up. Currently we have request for CVs outside Nigeria. We also have students where the would-be employers have paid for them to get their work permit.

“Students that are registered with us can go to the site, we will give them the code and they can upload their CVs. The good thing about the career portal is that there is a site that shows people how to write their CV appropriately. It also shows how to do introductory letters.

“For us, it is all about providing the opportunities for our members so that they can be employed. This will be done at no cost to both the student and employer. The only proviso is that the student must be an ACCA member,” she added.

She listed that the companies that currently have postings on the website to include Coca-Cola, KPMG, Deloitte, Shell, Apple, PwC, Vodafone, adding that the ACCA intends to put a lot more organisations on the portal.
