The Cement Company of Northern Nigeria (CCNN) has donated assorted drugs worth N2.5 million to the Community Clinic in Wajeke village of Wamakko local government area of Sokoto state.

Speaking shortly after presenting the drugs and a refrigerator to the clinic, the Managing Director of CCNN, Mr. Alf Karlsen, said the gesture was part of the company’s commitment towards curbing the incidence of infant and maternal mortality in the area.

He said the initiative was part of CCNN’s corporate social responsibility aimed at improving the health of residents of the host communities.
According to him, the provision of the drugs was in fulfillment of the pledge made to the community last year, following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between CCNN, Wamakko council and the Targeted States High Impact Programme (TSHIP).

Karlsen noted that few years ago, the company laid emphasis on providing infrastructure and building capacity of youths in the host communities, adding that the recent initiative was borne out of the desire by the company to enhance health service delivery in the Council.
“This is a way for CCNN to give something back to the host communities where the company operates. We believe that health is wealth especially when it has to do with improving the health of women and children.
“Thus, we believe that this is part of our own contribution towards improving the living conditions of the people in the area,” Karlsen said.

He described the relationship between the company and host communities as very cordial and reaffirmed CCNN’s commitment to sustain the tempo.
The CCNN boss urged the benefiting community to utilise the drugs judiciously for the purpose it was meant for.

In a remark, the Chairman of Wamakko LGA, Alhaji Ahmad Kalambaina, described the gesture as a good step in the right direction, saying it would go a long way in improving the health of the people of the area.

He commended the company for fulfilling the pledge made to the community during the signing of the MoU with TSHIP and the council last year.
“We are indeed glad that CCNN has fulfilled its promise. We have been working in harmony with the company and all the projects sited in the host communities have impacted positively on the lives of the people,” Kalambaina averred.

He assured the stakeholders that the council would continue to give maximum support to the cement company in order to achieve its desired goals.
Also speaking, the District Head of Wajeke, commended the cement company for the gesture and assured that the drugs would be utilised judiciously.

Meanwhile, CCNN also donated drugs worth N500,000 to the Police Mobile Force Squadron 7. Speaking shortly after presenting the drugs, Karlsen said the company enjoyed good relationship with the police and that it takes security seriously.
In a remark, Commanding Officer of PMF Squadron 7 and Chief Superintendent of Police, Yusuf Danlami, commended the company for the gesture, saying it was an indication of CCNN’s commitment to the welfare of host communities.
